This book was released on 2013-05-23 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned experts give all essential aspects of the techniques and applications of graft copolymers based on polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are the most abundant natural organic materials and polysaccharide based graft copolymers are of great importance and widely used in various fields. Natural polysaccharides have recently received more attention due to their advantages over synthetic polymers by being non-toxic, biodegradable and available at low cost. Modification of polysaccharides through graft copolymerization improves the properties of polysaccharides. Grafting is known to improve the characteristic properties of the backbones. Such properties include water repellency, thermal stability, flame resistance, dye-ability and resistance towards acid-base attack and abrasion. Polysaccharides and their graft copolymers find extensive applications in diversified fields. Applications of modified polysaccharides include drug delivery devices, controlled release of fungicides, selective water absorption from oil-water emulsions, purification of water etc.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This successful textbook undergoes a change of character in the third edition. Where earlier editions covered organic polymer chemistry, the third edition covers both physical and organic chemistry. Thus kinetics and thermodynamics of polymerization reactions are discussed. This edition is also distinct from all other polymer textbooks because of its coverage of such currently hot topics as photonic polymers, electricity conducting polymers, polymeric materials for immobilization of reagents and drug release, organic solar cells, organic light emitting diodes. This textbook contains review questions at the end of every chapter, references for further reading, and numerous examples of commercially important processes.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the thermal degradation of polymers is of paramount importance for developing a rational technology of polymer processing and higher-temperature applications. Controlling degradation requires understanding of many different phenomena, including chemical mechanisms, the influence of polymer morphology, the complexities of oxidation chemistry, and the effects of stabilisers, fillers and other additives. This book offers a wealth of information for polymer researchers and processors requiring an understanding of the implications of thermal degradation on material and product performance.

Book Synopsis A Novel Grafting of Polymers Onto the Surface of Graphene Oxide by : Norio Tsubokawa
Download or read book A Novel Grafting of Polymers Onto the Surface of Graphene Oxide written by Norio Tsubokawa and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple grafting of polymers onto graphene oxide (GO) was achieved by polymer radical trapping, ligand-exchange reaction, and surface initiated cationic and anionic graft polymerization. Grafting of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) onto GO was successfully achieved by trapping of PEG radicals formed by thermal decomposition of PEG macroazo initiator to give PEG-grafted GO. The grafting of copolymers containing vinyl ferrocene moieties onto GO surfaces was also successfully achieved by the ligand-exchange reaction between ferrocene moieties of these copolymers and GO. Carboxyl groups on GO have an ability to initiate the cationic polymerizations of vinyl monomers, such as N-vinylcarbazole and isobutyl vinyl ether. The corresponding vinyl polymers were grafted onto GO, during the cationic polymerization, based on the termination of growing polymer cation by counter anion (carboxylate) groups on GO. It was found that the anionic ring-opening alternating copolymerization of epoxides with cyclic acid anhydrides was successfully initiated by potassium carboxylate groups on GO, introduced by neutralization of carboxyl groups with KOH, to give the corresponding polyester-grafted GO. The dispersibility of GO in organic solvents was remarkably improved by the grafting of the above polymers onto GO. In addition, easy preparation of reduced GO-based conducting polyaniline composite organogel will be discussed.

Download or read book Macromolecules written by H.G. Elias and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 842 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this textbook is identical with its fourth German edi tion and it thus has the same goals: precise definition of basic phenomena, a broad survey of the whole field, integrated representation of chemistry, physics, and technology, and a balanced treatment of facts and comprehen sion. The book thus intends to bridge the gap between the often oversimpli fied introductory textbooks and the highly specialized texts and monographs that cover only parts of macromolecular science. The text intends to survey the whole field of macromolecular science. Its organization results from the following considerations. The chemical structure of macromolecular compounds should be inde pendent of the method of synthesis, at least in the ideal case. Part I is thus concerned with the chemical and physical structure of polymers. Properties depend on structure. Solution properties are thus discussed in Part II, solid state properties in Part III. There are other reasons for dis cussing properties before synthesis: For example, it is difficult to understand equilibrium polymerization without knowledge of solution thermodynamics, the gel effect without knowledge of the glass transition temperature, etc. Part IV treats the principles of macromolecular syntheses and reactions.
