Book Synopsis Geological Classification of Canadian Gold Deposits by : Knud Howard Poulsen
Download or read book Geological Classification of Canadian Gold Deposits written by Knud Howard Poulsen and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bulletin proposes a geological classification of lode gold deposits based largely on the nature of the ore and on the geological settings of the deposits. Sixteen common types of bedrock gold deposits are distinguished and their main geological attributes are summarized. These do not correspond to an equal number of genetic types; many of these deposit types represent different components of larger hydrothermal systems and are genetically related. Most of the deposit types identified are represented by at least one large example (containing over 100 tonnes of gold). Descriptions are provided of Canadian gold deposits, including Archean & Proterozoic deposits in the Canadian Shield, Late Proterozoic to Palaeozoic deposits in the Appalachian Orogen, and Mesozoic to Cenozoic deposits in the Cordilleran Orogen. The final section discusses the application of gold deposit models.

Download or read book Slumach's Gold written by Rick Antonson and published by Heritage House Publishing Co. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slumach’s Gold chronicles what is possibly Canada’s greatest lost-mine story. It searches out the truth behind a Salish man’s hanging for murder in 1891 and tracks the intriguing legend about him that grew after his death. It was a legend that turned into a drama of international fascination when Slumach—the hanged criminal—was mysteriously linked to gold nuggets “the size of walnuts.” The stories claimed that Slumach had placed a curse on a hidden motherlode to protect it from interlopers and trespassers just before he plunged to his death “at the wrong end of a five-strand rope.” Although many have attempted to find Slumach’s gold over the past 100 years, following tantalizing clues that are part of the legend itself, none have succeeded—or have they? Rick Antonson, Mary Trainer and Brian Antonson have diligently sifted through history and myth, separating fact from fiction, but leaving the legend intact—along with the promise of gold yet to be found by some future gold seeker.

Book Synopsis The History of Mining by : Michael Coulson
Download or read book The History of Mining written by Michael Coulson and published by Harriman House Limited. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE INDUSTRY THAT FORGED THE MODERN WORLD Throughout history metals and raw materials have underpinned human activity. So it is that the industry responsible for extracting these materials from the ground - mining - has been ever present throughout the history of civilisation, from the ancient world of the Egyptians and Romans, to the industrial revolution and the British Empire, and through to the present day, with mining firms well represented on the world's most important stock indexes including the FTSE100. This book traces the history of mining from those early moments when man first started using tools to the present day where metals continue to underpin economic activity in the post industrial age. In doing so, the history of mining methods, important events, technological developments, the important firms and the sparkling personalities that built the industry are examined in detail. At every stage, as the history of mining is traced from 40,000BC to the present day, the level of detail increases in accordance with the greater social and industrial developments that have played out as time has progressed. This means that a particular focus is given to the period since the industrial revolution and especially the 20th century. A look is also taken into the future in an effort to chart the direction this great industry might take in years to come. Many books have been written about mining; the majority have focused on a particular metal, geographical area, mining event or mining personality, but 'The History of Mining' has a broader scope and covers all of these essential and fascinating areas in one definitive volume.
