Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author was living a normal life enjoying her family, friends, her job, and her church, and one day in 2019, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her name was on so many prayer lists, and her Christian friends were lifting her spirits daily by telling her that Jesus could heal her, and she believed them. She thanked Jesus every day for healing her even though she really did not know if she would die or not from the disease. In spite of suffering significantly from the cancer and the treatments, she felt the presence and love of God more profoundly in her life than at any other time of her life. After months of treatment, she had surgery to remove the cancer, and the surgeon told her the pathologist could not find one cancer cell in everything they removed from her. She received her miracle. She is cancer-free. The author, never in a million years, thought she would write a book to tell the miracles that God gave her, but when she received healing of pancreatic cancer, she wondered why Jesus healed her and spared her life. Most people die from this kind of cancer. As she prayed about it, she had a strong feeling that God wanted her to write this book to help others know that He is alive and loves them and has the power to heal them, physically and spiritually. Many are struggling with hopelessness and pain in this sometimes scary world, and only Jesus can gift them with His peace that passes all understanding. By His stripes, we are healed.

Book excerpt: Jaime Primak Sullivan, outspoken star of Bravo TV’s Jersey Belle, offers no-nonsense Southern-spun advice for navigating life and love with her signature charismatic Jersey charm in this winning fish-out-of-water tale. Jamie Primak Sullivan, a Jersey-bred, tough-as-nails PR maven—and unlikely transplant in an upscale suburb of Birmingham, Alabama—has spent her entire life crossing the line: whether she’s pushing the boundaries of what proper Southern ladies consider to be “polite behavior” or literally traversing the Mason-Dixon line in the name of love. She isn’t afraid to say what everyone is thinking when it comes to love, sex, friendship, and many other topics that are all-too-often sugar-coated in polite Southern company. But when a meet-cute scenario right out of a Nora Ephron movie upends her life, Jaime finds herself a reluctant “knish out of water,” smack-dab in the Deep South starting a life with her new husband, the perfect Southern gentleman. In The Southern Education of a Jersey Girl, Jaime shares hard-learned lessons on Southern etiquette, deep-fried foods, college football, and matters of the heart while living in the heart of Dixie, with her quintessential ball-busting, bullsh*t free, and side-splitting Jersey twist.

Book excerpt: Four young men struggle to liberate themselves from the burden of being black and male in America in an assured debut "as up-to the-minute as a Kendrick Lamar track and as ruefully steeped in eternal truths as a Gogol tale" (Kirkus, starred review). Bound together by shared experience but pulled apart by their changing fortunes, four young friends coming of age in the postindustrial enclave of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, struggle to liberate themselves from the legacies left to them as black men in America. With potent immediacy and bracing candor, this provocative debut follows a decade in the lives of Dub, Rolls, Rye, and Gio as they each grapple with the complexity of their family histories, the newfound power of sex and drugs, and the ferocity of their desires. Gio proves himself an unforgettable narrator, beautifully flawed and unstintingly honest, as he recounts both the friends' conflicts and their triumphs. Whether it's a fraught family cookout, a charged altercation on the block, a raucous night in high-society Manhattan gone wrong, or the troubled efforts of a drug hustler to go clean, JM Holmes brings the thump and the heat of his scenes to life with the kind of ease that makes us not just eavesdroppers but participants. How Are You Going to Save Yourself illuminates in breathtaking detail an entire world-one that has been underrepresented in American fiction. At times funny, often uncomfortable, occasionally disturbing, these stories fearlessly engage with issues of race, sex, drugs, class, and family. Holmes's blistering and timely new voice, richly infused with the unmistakable rhythms of hip-hop that form the sound track to his characters' lives, delivers an indelible fiction that has never been more vital and necessary.

Book excerpt: When incurable pedophiles are released into our society, does it give you comfort knowing where they live? That isif they bother to register. It is only circumstance that allows some dying senior citizens to realize they are exempt from the penalties associated with making the sex offender registry their Death List! Targeting the worst of the worst, they decide to make the world a bit safer for the children. In their rationale, even if they are caught, they will be dead before they are sentenced. This group of flawed, unhappy Baby Boomers, made up by a cast of very different characters decides that if the law itself is broken, then breaking the law does not apply. This is a very original story that incorporates many aspects that this gray generation is faced with, as well as their personal feelings, which transition as they bond in a common cause. Make no mistake, this is a violent book. No one is spared, as this heinous disease has spread to those in the most respected positions. The solution? Personal justice dealt out in large doses. Think about it. If a tiger was loose in your city, what kind of response would it bring from those in authority? Yet an incurable pedophile can be a multiple offender and living next door to you. The characters in this book are tired of watching the heinous crimes against children on the news. They realize they are immune from punishment, which for some offers a chance at redemption. This book also offers a glimpse of the world from the perspective of those that are a lost generation. Losing their jobs to younger workers and without insurance, stuck at an age where they are too young for government benefits, and recipients of the separation syndrome that has affected so many families. These are grandparents that refuse to accept that their grandchildren could become prey to these predators. Expect the unexpected, as they proceed with assistance and divine intervention. This book should make you cheer, laugh, think and even shed a tear. The first book marketing person that read this work, called me to say it was in chapter two that he went online to find the 15 sex offenders lived with a two mile radius of his home. I have two little girls! he told me. I hope it makes some people aware and more protective of their children. I hope it causes some to write or call these judges that put these incurables back into our society. Given the proliferation of these crimes, this book may contain the only possible solution and become prophetic.

Now she presents a riveting thriller about a young woman who finds her life threatened when she returns to her picture-perfect suburban hometown where a brutal crime shattered her family when she was a teenager. The affluent town of Hoffman, New Jersey reeled in disbelief when highly esteemed physician Duncan Avery stabbed his wife Marsha to death one spring evening. The two Avery sons turned their backs on their father but his daughter Nina never stopped believing in his innocence. Now, fifteen years later, Nina, a struggling actress in New York City, returns to Hoffman when her father is paroled and insists on re-settling there. Not only does Dr. Avery want to repair his relationships with his sons and meet his grandchildren, he claims he wants to find out who killed his wife. But neither Nina's brother Patrick, a successful investment banker with a wife and twin sons, nor Jimmy, a recovering drug addict who has adopted a new family, can bear to acknowledge their father's return. Then, as suddenly as before, another act of violence overturns the Averys' lives. No longer certain if she can trust her family, her neighbors, or her old friends, Nina finds she can rely only on herself and a surprising new ally in her life as she searches for the truth behind crimes past and present. If she digs deep-down into the secrets of her family's and her neighbors' lives she stands a chance of catching a killer before she becomes his next victim. With psychologically perceptive characterizations, emotional realism, and a gripping story line, The Girl Next Door exposes the dark impulses and fierce passions that can rule seemingly ordinary people and showcases Patricia MacDonald at the height of her celebrated powers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “The plot provided by the universe was filled with starvation, war and rape. I would not—could not—live in that tale.” Clemantine Wamariya was six years old when her mother and father began to speak in whispers, when neighbors began to disappear, and when she heard the loud, ugly sounds her brother said were thunder. In 1994, she and her fifteen-year-old sister, Claire, fled the Rwandan massacre and spent the next six years migrating through seven African countries, searching for safety—perpetually hungry, imprisoned and abused, enduring and escaping refugee camps, finding unexpected kindness, witnessing inhuman cruelty. They did not know whether their parents were dead or alive. When Clemantine was twelve, she and her sister were granted refugee status in the United States; there, in Chicago, their lives diverged. Though their bond remained unbreakable, Claire, who had for so long protected and provided for Clemantine, was a single mother struggling to make ends meet, while Clemantine was taken in by a family who raised her as their own. She seemed to live the American dream: attending private school, taking up cheerleading, and, ultimately, graduating from Yale. Yet the years of being treated as less than human, of going hungry and seeing death, could not be erased. She felt at the same time six years old and one hundred years old. In The Girl Who Smiled Beads, Clemantine provokes us to look beyond the label of “victim” and recognize the power of the imagination to transcend even the most profound injuries and aftershocks. Devastating yet beautiful, and bracingly original, it is a powerful testament to her commitment to constructing a life on her own terms.

Andrea Syverson was raised Catholic. As in really Catholic, from plaid jumpers to early-morning Mass to meatless Fridays. And then she did the unthinkable. She fell in love with a non-Catholic man whose questions about her faith she simply couldn't answer. What's a good Catholic girl to do? Frequently whimsical, often profound, always honest, Andrea shares her spiritual journey—one that feels familiar to anyone seeking Jesus. It's a jumbled jaunt from religion to relationship, from going to church to being the church. Whether you love church or are done with it, or you're simply seeking a more authentic relationship with Jesus—Andrea has something to say to you. You’ll enjoy... • A compelling story of Jesus’ relentless pursuit of those who desire to know him. • An upbeat, honest glimpse at how church does—or doesn’t—welcome those who come seeking answers. • Reflective devotions and journaling space at the end that draw you deeper toward your heart of faith. • Inspiration that you, too, can find your way to a deeper, more transforming relationship with Jesus.

Book excerpt: Toro's debut novel offers a divine love story that takes one man back and forth between the Northeast and Midwest. When Michael leaves New York City and returns to Ohio, where he grew up, his life is a shambles. His ex-wife allows him to stay with her as he gets back on his feet, but their relationship remains broken. However, God intervenes in Michael's life, starting with a miracle that cures his chronic anxiety. Michael then has a vision and falls in love with a girl he's never met and feels prompted by God to woo her. A series of small miracles occurs to assist him; for example, he sends her a photograph of an angel statue that unintentionally includes the digits of his phone number. The path to love is not without trials, and Michael, his ex-wife and his new love interest must go through a healing process before they can find happy endings. Toro tells the story using a rhythmic, poetic style, giving the novel a dreamlike quality that compliments its romantic elements. This style does have its limitations, however; although the book's prayers and dialogue have a pleasant ring, they don't necessarily resemble natural speech. One prayer reads, in part, "I'd like for this ride to end...to put an end to this terrible spin, and start me anew on who you're willing to send...a normal but blessed love about to begin." Some plot details are so finely woven into the prose that casual readers may miss key information. Overall, Michael does a great deal of praying and reflecting--a narrative choice that benefits from the work's rhythmic style--creating a story that focuses more on emotion than action. A marriage of poetry and prose for fans of inspirational and romantic fiction. -- Kirkus Reviews

Four little words that cut right to the quick of any man, 33-year-old Mark Sawyer is no exception when he hears these dreaded words from his own romantic interest. Already in a tailspin from losing a coveted job in the radio industry - in addition to the potential loss of the first great love of his life - hearing this brutal assault on his manhood drives Mark into a deeper sense of hopelessness. What if this charming barmaid is right about him? Mark reflects upon the path that brought him to his current state. His torturous days in Catholic school and high school, the fast-paced highs and lows of his time in the New Jersey radio business, and the people who have made lasting impressions on him along the way. As Mark looks back on his life and the man he wants to prove himself to be, he must decide where his past should lead him. Should he risk forgoing the career he has worked hard to establish and chase his heart down to North Carolina, or play it safe and stay in the rat race of New Jersey? Or maybe there is something else holding him back from his future ... Author Michael L. Salvador weaves together the growing pains of adulthood with religious symbolism of the holy trinity. Through a coming-of-age story that will appeal to anyone who has questioned their direction in life, Peace of Mind follows the story of a man searching for his place in life, and ultimately his own salvation.
