Download or read book Giant written by Don Graham and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A larger-than-life narrative of the making of the classic film, marking the rise of America as a superpower, the ascent of Hollywood celebrity, and the flowering of Texas culture as mythology. Featuring James Dean, Rock Hudson, and Elizabeth Taylor, Giant is an epic film of fame and materialism, based around the discovery of oil at Spindletop and the establishment of the King Ranch of south Texas. Isolating his star cast in the wilds of West Texas, director George Stevens brought together a volatile mix of egos, insecurities, sexual proclivities, and talent. Stevens knew he was overwhelmed with Hudson’s promiscuity, Taylor’s high diva-dom, and Dean’s egotistical eccentricity. Yet he coaxed performances out of them that made cinematic history, winning Stevens the Academy Award for Best Director and garnering nine other nominations, including a nomination for Best Actor for James Dean, who died before the film was finished. In this compelling and impeccably researched narrative history of the making of the film, Don Graham chronicles the stories of Stevens, whose trauma in World War II intensified his ambition to make films that would tell the story of America; Edna Ferber, a considerable literary celebrity, who meets her match in the imposing Robert Kleberg, proprietor of the vast King Ranch; and Glenn McCarthy, an American oil tycoon; and Errol Flynn lookalike with a taste for Hollywood. Drawing on archival sources Graham’s Giant is a comprehensive depiction of the film’s production showing readers how reality became fiction and fiction became cinema.
Book Synopsis When Giants Fall by : Michael Panzner
Download or read book When Giants Fall written by Michael Panzner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-02-10 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In When Giants Fall, Panzner makes his case for the turbulent economic changes that will be occurring over the next few years and examines the resulting economic opportunities. According to Panzner, the economic changes will be widespread. Businesses will struggle amid wars, shortages, logistical disruptions, and a breakdown of the established monetary order. Individuals will be forced to rethink livelihoods, lifestyles, living arrangements, and locales. Political structures will be in flux, as local leaders gain influence at the expense of national authorities. For many people, it will be nothing short of a modern Dark Ages, where each day brings fresh anxieties, unfamiliar risks, and a sense of foreboding. However, for those enlightened few who understand what is really going on and what happens next, the chaotic years ahead represent the opportunity of a lifetime - a time when they can realize goals they never thought possible and achieve a level of wealth, security, and inner peace that will leave them head-and-shoulders above everyone else. In this book, Panzner offers cutting-edge insights and strategies that will enable readers to stay well ahead of the game during the uniquely unsettling period ahead.

Download or read book Current Insights in Pollen Allergens written by Jose C. Jimenez-Lopez and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present edition of "Current Insights in Pollen Allergens" provides recent aspects related to pollen allergy, a major medical problem which is still under thorough studies. The chapters of this book will be of significant value to those interested to get notions about molecular basis of pollen allergy, such as allergen proteins polymorphism and its implications in allergic disease, cross-reactivity between pollen and pollen-plant food derived allergens, as well as strategies for clinical trial and future research. This book also provides insights about the application of molecular tools in allergens detection and quantification such as "multiplex methods", helping in the development of the standardization process of pollen protein extracts, ensuring efficiency and safety in allergy diagnosis and immunotherapy, but also exploring factors that affect allergen product expression (environmental factors), and alternative effective anti-allergic and/or preventative strategies for allergic diseases.

Book Synopsis Standing On The Shoulders Of International Business Giants: In Memory Of Yair Aharoni by : Arie Y Lewin
Download or read book Standing On The Shoulders Of International Business Giants: In Memory Of Yair Aharoni written by Arie Y Lewin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-03-04 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as an introductory volume to Yair Aharoni's remarkable impact on international business (IB) research. Most IB researchers will be familiar with at least one aspect of his work, but relatively few will be familiar with his broader body of work, as it spans so many of the issues addressed today in IB and strategy. This book aims to introduce readers to the depth and breadth of his impact.Unquestionably a founder of the IB field, over the course of his long career, Aharoni influenced its earliest development and, driven by a deep connection to policy and managerial practice, continually challenged conventional thinking on IB and strategy. He generated seminal insights into many aspects of why and how firms internationalize, including managerial decision-making processes, the strategies employed by state-owned enterprises, the interaction between firms and governments, and the foreign expansion of firms — including small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and those operating in the service sector — based in small and open economies. His research contributed to several salient research directions, including the behavioral theory of the firm, emerging-market multinationals, international entrepreneurship, the service economy, and non-market strategies.Aharoni was also an influential educator, having served as the founding dean of two top business schools in Israel. He was deeply engaged with the Israeli business environment — particularly senior executives of start-up companies — and a highly-valued advisor to the Israeli government. In honor of these contributions, Aharoni was the first management scholar in Israel, to be awarded the prestigious Israel Prize in 2010. Few scholars have had such meaningful impact on research, practice, and policy.

Download or read book The Olive written by Andrea Fabbri and published by CABI. This book was released on 2023-11-23 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European or Mediterranean cultivated olive (Olea europaea L., subsp. europaea, var. europaea) is an ancient crop notable for its early domestication. Today, hundreds of olive varieties are grown to produce high-quality fruit for oil and table olives for human consumption. Over the last 30 years, the olive industry has undergone profound innovation due to scientific and technical advances, particularly in genomics, breeding, orchard management, mechanization and agro-ecology. Not all these developments are currently available to smaller producers. Outside the Mediterranean Basin, where it has been present for over 6,000 years, olive cultivation has spread to many other countries. These new olive-growing areas are helping further the expansion of the industry, due to increased awareness of the nutritional and health properties of extra virgin olive oil. The Olive: Botany and Production is an invaluable resource for researchers and students in horticulture and agriculture, in addition to producers involved in olive orchard management.
