Book excerpt: The fourth edition of the European Conference on Model-Driven Architecture – Foundations and Applications (ECMDA-FA 2008) was dedicated to furthering the state of knowledge and fostering the industrialization of the model-driven architecture (MDA) methodology. MDA is an initiative proposed by the - ject Management Group (OMG) for platform-generic software development. It promotes the use of models in the speci?cation, design, analysis, synthesis, - ployment, and evolution of complex software systems. ECMDA-FA 2008 focused on engaging key European and international - searchers and practitioners in a dialogue which will result in a stronger, more e?cientindustry,producingmorereliablesoftwareonthebasisofstate-of-the-art research results. ECMDA-FA is a forum for exchanging information, discussing the latest results and arguing about future developments of MDA. It is a pleasure to be able to introduce the proceedings of ECMDA-FA 2008. ECMDA-FA addresses various MDA areas including model management, e- cutable models, concrete syntaxes, aspects and concerns, validation and te- ing, model-based systems engineering, model-driven development and servi- oriented architectures, and the application of model-driven development. The Program Committee accepted, with the help of additional reviewers, research papers and industry papers for ECMDA-FA 2008: We received 87 s- missions. Of these, a total of 31 were accepted including 21 research papers and 10 industry papers. We thank them for the thorough and high-quality selection process.

This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a method that aims at achieving generic behavioural descriptions for use in Virtual Reality (VR) that can also be reused to form dynamic use cases of a product in different VR-systems. The focus lies on reducing the overall preparation effort of VR-models and on achieving high reusability of already created models. The core components of the thesis consist of the use of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to develop generic behavioural model descriptions, their use in building different use cases of a product in one VR-system and their reuse in different VR-systems as well. The Systems Modeling Language (SysML) is used to describe the behavioural models, the modelling process is described systematically and is also summarised in the form of general-purpose guidelines for later use. Furthermore, a dedicated physics engine is integrated with these descriptions. Two VR prototypes are developed to demonstrate the effectivity and use of the presented method. Finally, one of the prototypes is put to empirical evaluation performed with the help of experts from academia as well as industry.

More concretely, it encompasses research and theory designated as ""within a range of disciplines and fields—advertising, child development, education, journalism, political science, sociology, and wherever else such scholarly activity occurs including, of course, social psychology"". The book opens with a chapter on television exposure as a potential cause of aggression. This is followed by separate chapters on barriers to information flow and the manner in which news audiences make use of TV news; various television forms and their impact on children; and the characterization and formalization of some elements of the evolving paradigm of communications research. The final chapter discusses the research findings concerning the public impact of the 1983 television movie about the aftermath of nuclear war, The Day After.

Book excerpt: The human factors profession is currently attempting to take a more proactive role in the design of man-machine systems than has been character istic of its past. Realizing that human engineering contributions are needed well before the experimental evaluation of prototypes or operational systems, there is a concerted effort to develop tools that predict how humans will interact with proposed designs. This volume provides an over view of one category of such tools: mathematical models of human performance. It represents a collection of invited papers from a 1988 NATO Workshop. The Workshop was conceived and organized by NATO Research Study Group 9 (RSG.9) on "Modelling of Human Operator Behaviour in Weapon Systems". It represented the culmination of over five years of effort, and was attended by 139 persons from Europe, Canada, and the United States. RSG.9 was established in 1982 by Panel 8 of the Defence Research Group to accomplish the following objectives: * Determine the utility and state of the art of human performance modelling. * Encourage international research and the exchange of ideas. * Foster the practical application of modelling research. * Provide a bridge between the models and approaches adopted by engineers and behavioral scientists. * Present the findings in an international symposium.
