Download or read book One Gospel written by Nathan N. Hoff and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is faith in Messiah necessary to the content of saving faith in the Old Testament as it is in the New? While the dispensational tradition has been clear that salvation in every age includes a common object (God), a common basis (Christ’s death), and a common requirement (faith), it has not always agreed on the content of saving faith across the testaments. Written within the dispensational tradition, One Gospel seeks to advance the discussion by looking at Paul’s use of the Abraham story in Romans 4. This work contends there is continuity between the Old Testament and the New as illustrated by Abraham and Paul. The content of saving faith must always include faith in Messiah, who, in the progress of revelation, is identified as Jesus Christ.

This two-volume series analyses the dynamics of fundamentalism and its relationship to the modern state, the public sphere and globalisation. This second volume explores the links between fundamentalism and communication: the rise of fundamentalism as a mass media phenomenon, fundamentalist communication in the public sphere, national cultural identities and the rise of a 'global society'. Expert scholars in the field address specific contemporary and past fundamentalist movements that have emerged from within mainstream Islam, Christianity, Baha'ism, Hinduism, Judaism and Buddhism. This is an important study of an increasingly significant and virulent aspect of modern society, and will be essential reading in the fields of Religion, Politics, Communications and Media Studies.
Book Synopsis The Expositor's Bible Commentary-New Testament by : Frank E. Gaebelein
Download or read book The Expositor's Bible Commentary-New Testament written by Frank E. Gaebelein and published by . This book was released on 1982-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Expositor's Bible Commentary is a major contribution to the study and understanding of the Scriptures. Its seventy-eight contributors come from the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand, and from many denominations, including Anglican, Baptist, Brethren, Methodist, Nazarene, Presbyterian, and Reformed. They represent the best in evangelical scholarship committed to the divine inspiration, complete trustworthiness, and full authority of the Bible. This reference work provides pastors and other Bible students with a comprehensive and scholarly tool for the exposition of the Scriptures and the teachings and proclamation of their message. The English text used in The Expositor's Bible Commentary is the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (North American Edition), though contributors refer to other translations and to the original languages. Each book of the Bible has, in addition to its exposition, an introduction, outline, and bibliography. Notes on textual questions and special problems are correlated with the expository units; transliteration and translation of the Semitic and Greek words make the more technical notes accessible to readers unacquainted with the biblical languages. In matters where marked differences of opinion exist, commentators, while stating their own convictions, deal fairly and irenically with opposing views.

Book Synopsis The Dispensational-Covenantal Rift by : R. Todd Mangum
Download or read book The Dispensational-Covenantal Rift written by R. Todd Mangum and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking study explores how the fight between dispensationalists and covenant theologians started and how a unique dynamic of personalities and sociological factors enflamed it. Readers may be surprised to discover that even the terminology of "dispensationalists" and "covenant theologians" originated in the 1930s' disputes; that the majority of the original protagonists on both sides were Presbyterians; and that soteriology, rather than eschatology, was the original bone of contention between them. This study examines how two respective strands of fundamentalism came to identify one another as theological rivals as they each vied for position in their recently formed separatist bodies. The significance of disagreements over "dispensationalism" is explored in the founding of the Orthodox Presbyterian and Bible Presbyterian churches. And then, as the debate traveled southward, the response of the PCUS is examined, with special attention given to the consummative reports of an ad hoc committee that found "dispensationalism" to be out of harmony with the Westminster doctrinal standards. Significant misunderstandings that impeded fruitful dialogue from the beginning are clarified, particularly those that have persisted most stubbornly to the present day. Perhaps most surprising of all, the reader will discover that nearly all of the original points of debate between dispensationalists and covenant theologians have since been resolved, as each side has honed its position in light of pertinent critiques. Why has this development gone almost unnoticed? This study suggests an answer, and proposes that understanding how the feud began may hold the key to rapprochement today.
