Book Synopsis In Need of a Master by : Dominik Finkelde
Download or read book In Need of a Master written by Dominik Finkelde and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-05-10 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume In Need of a Master: Politics, Theology, and Radical Democracy discusses how our so-called "postmodern age" of widespread ideological critique paves the way for reactionary and conservative political movements. At center stage is the question of whether these movements can and must be – contrary to widespread beliefs among liberal elites – interpreted both as a symptom of a political awakening in the horizon of political theology in our era of immanence, as well as perhaps the perilous end of democracy as we know it. The book brings to the fore political theology as the hidden agenda of politics and presents at the same time Christian and Jewish theological traditions as an antidote to a global empire with its often unacknowledged rule of immanence.
Book Synopsis Ecumenics from the Rim by : John D'Arcy May
Download or read book Ecumenics from the Rim written by John D'Arcy May and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2007 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John D'Arcy May's achievements motivate these essays on ecumenics. Amid today's scepticism about the ecumenical movement's relevance, the authors demonstrate the necessity of working together for the betterment of all. This book deepens our understanding of how theology, peace and reconciliation studies and interfaith dialogue critically cooperate for the flourishing of earth's life. The perspective of church unity amid ecclesial division is broadened to embrace interfaith and intercultural issues: ecumenics becomes visible as the intellectual paradigm of our times.

Book Synopsis Eingeordnete Freiheit by : H.S. Benjamins
Download or read book Eingeordnete Freiheit written by H.S. Benjamins and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eingeordnete Freiheit compares Origen's notion of freedom of choice with the concepts of contemporary philosophers. The first chapter deals with the philosophical problem of freedom of choice throughout the history of Greek philosophy. In the second chapter Origen's writing on this topic is assembled, translated, analyzed and commented upon. The comparison between Origen and his contemporaries leads in chapter three to the conclusion that Origen's concept of freedom differs especially from the philosophical perspective, since human freedom does not stand in opposition to the inevitable pattern of the pronoia or heimarmene but to Gods care for every individual. Chapter four shows that the notion of oikonomia in Christian theology is based on the concept of providence in Origen.
Book Synopsis Postcolonial Europe in the Crucible of Cultures by : Jacques Haers
Download or read book Postcolonial Europe in the Crucible of Cultures written by Jacques Haers and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2007 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past forty years Europe has grown as a global presence and today it plays an important role in a variety of ways: politically, socially, economically, and culturally. European theologians have no choice but to take cognizance of this fact and respond to the broad social challenges by clarifying their views on God and being a prophetic voice in cultural, political and social decision-making. The authors in this volume take up four main contemporary global challenges, i.e. globalization, violence, gender, and the environment, and the volume provides its readers with first-rate theological reflections in Europe. The articles offered here are the result of an intensive workshop held in Leuven in September 2004 and are sponsored by the European Commission and the VLIR, as part of a three-year study program on the understanding of God in Europe.

Book Synopsis Studies in Matthew's Gospel by : W.J.C. Weren
Download or read book Studies in Matthew's Gospel written by W.J.C. Weren and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Studies in Matthew’s Gospel by Wim J.C. Weren are the result of scholarly work carried out using recent methods in Biblical exegesis such as structural analysis, text semantics and intertextuality. Part One presents a new proposal regarding the macrostructure of Matthew’s Gospel and discusses meanings of textual units from this Gospel on the basis of synchronic research. In Part Two, intertextual theories are described and practical tools are developed that enable us to identify various types of relations between texts from Matthew’s Gospel and co-generic or co-thematic textual units from the Hebrew Bible, the Septuagint and early Jewish and early Christian writings. Part Three answers the question to what extent the ways in which the disciples are portrayed in Matthew is related to ‘real’ groups in the Matthean communities. The three successive steps are deliberately chosen and are in a complementary relationship to each other.
