This stand-alone resource applies the principles of that book specifically to short-term missions. Helping Without Hurting in Short-Term Missions: Participant’s Guide aims to train and debrief team members, preparing them to do short-term missions as effectively as possible. To do this, it provides practical examples and guidelines for team members, and it creates interaction and reflection opportunities through questions and journaling. With eight units, six of which are built around free online video content, this book equips teams to avoid harming materially poor communities and to translate their experience into lasting and mutual engagement with missions and poverty alleviation. In conjunction with the separately available Leader’s Guide, it is an ideal resource for churches, Christian colleges, mission agencies, and missionaries.

Download or read book Relief written by Frederic Almy and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Relief: A Primer for the Family Rehabilitation Work of the Buffalo Charity Organization Society Prepared by Its Secretary This little Primer was originally written for the Charity Organization Society of Buffalo, and some of its paragraphs do not represent the methods in use in other cities. Experts differ as to principles of relief, and there are statements in this pamphlet which are not universally accepted, but probably no one could draw up a brief treatise on this subject which would be universally acceptable. The Primer is suggestive, but in no sense authoritative. Nevertheless, there is so much confusion in the minds of many that some outline of principles is needed. There are experienced workers, for instance, who have no conception of the difference of treatment for widows and for deserted wives. Slight as this pamphlet is, it may stimulate thought, and help in cases of doubt. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis The Age of Eisenhower by : William I. Hitchcock
Download or read book The Age of Eisenhower written by William I. Hitchcock and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 895 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling biography: a “complete and powerful assessment” of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s presidency (Booklist, starred review). Drawing on newly declassified documents and thousands of pages of unpublished material, The Age of Eisenhower tells the story of a masterful president guiding the nation through the great crises of the 1950s, from McCarthyism and the Korean War through civil rights turmoil and Cold War conflicts. This is a portrait of a skilled leader who, despite his conservative inclinations, found a middle path through the bitter partisanship of his era. At home, Eisenhower affirmed the central elements of the New Deal, such as Social Security; fought the demagoguery of Senator Joseph McCarthy; and advanced the agenda of civil rights for African-Americans. Abroad, he ended the Korean War and avoided a new quagmire in Vietnam. Yet he also charted a significant expansion of America’s missile technology and deployed a vast array of covert operations around the world to confront the challenge of communism. As he left office, he cautioned Americans to remain alert to the dangers of a powerful military-industrial complex that could threaten their liberties. Today, presidential historians rank Eisenhower fifth on the list of great presidents, and William Hitchcock’s “rich narrative” shows us why Ike’s stock has risen so high. He was a gifted leader, a decent man of humble origins who used his powers to advance the welfare of all Americans (The Wall Street Journal).

Book Synopsis From Relief to Recovery: Supporting good governance in post-earthquake Haiti by : Martin Hartberg
Download or read book From Relief to Recovery: Supporting good governance in post-earthquake Haiti written by Martin Hartberg and published by Oxfam. This book was released on 2011 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The humanitarian response undertaken in Haiti after the earthquake that struck on 12 January 2010 has been one of the most complex ever. However, as the first anniversary of the quake approaches, the Haitian state, together with the international community, is making little progress in reconstruction. The Haitian authorities need to show greater strategic leadership and take decisions that reflect the priority needs of the Haitian population. They need to initiate public infrastructure projects that put people to work and build skills; support people to return home or allocate land for new houses; and invest in agriculture. The international community should do much more to support these efforts by increasing the capacity and accountability of Haitian institutions.
