Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Economics - Foreign Trade Theory, Trade Policy, grade: 2,0, Cracow University of Economics, language: English, abstract: Preface For Hungary and the European Union, the 01. May 2004 is one of the most important dates of the history of Hungary, because they and 9 other countries joined the EU. Finally now the very long time of the separation between Eastern and Western Europe is over. It is now the first time in Europe that all countries of this big continent could life together in peace and can create an economical and political union. For Hungary it was like for the other new members a very long and hard way to transform the economy to the rules of the market economic system, but they have some advantages because they have started the reform process already before the political change. So as a reason now Hungary has received 31 billion euros as foreign direct investment until 2003. This means they have about 3.100 Euro FDI per inhabitant, only the Czech Republic has received more FDI per inhabitant. In the assay the authors want to concentrate to the historical background, the business law, the motivation for invest in Hungary and give some data about the FDI in Hungary.

Book excerpt: Although the official rhetoric in most transition economies has been in favor of foreign direct investment (FDI), few countries have succeeded in attracting sizable inflows. Hungary stands out among those countries that have done so effectively. Several factors helped Hungary to get ahead of other transition economies in terms of attracting FDI. This volume analyzes Hungary's achievement, the scope and depth of FDI and the effect of FDI on Hungary's economy and foreign trade. This report will interest European Union member and candidate countries, foreign ministries, think tanks, and libraries.

This book was released on 2018-08-11 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How was it feasible that between 1990 and 1995 Hungary was the most successful and the first East and Central European transition nation in decoying Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of Western firms even though its overall macroeconomic performance suffered amongst others from the transition recession which was as dramatic as the output decline of the Great Depression between 1930 and 1934? Moreover its economic growth was characterized as less competitive compared to a Western nation resulting from a low production and aggregated demand as well as grave foreign and domestic imbalances? It faced a high level of inherited foreign debt due to structural deficits of the former Soviet centrally planned regime. They had a low amount of capital and technology as important factors of production. For reducing this permanent debt, the Hungarian government consequently considered internal and external financing. Internal financing did not work efficiently because the Hungarian government as debtors could not receive enough remittances from the Hungarian public in the long term. The situation was fragile. The gross domestic product (GDP) including their real disposable income as well as confidence in their own economy and government was not high enough in the long run. To go a step further, the Hungarian government thus needed to persuade external debtors because it has more prospects to find potential investors. This book looks for explanations for this macroeconomic contradiction.
