Book Synopsis First Letters for Fun! Letters M-Z by : Wyatt Michaels
Download or read book First Letters for Fun! Letters M-Z written by Wyatt Michaels and published by Speedy Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2012-12-20 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kindergarten children often struggle with learning the alphabet. The letters are easy enough to remember, but the variety of letter sounds can be a troublesome thing for a child to overcome. Forcing a child to study these letters can be time consuming and a challenge in itself, as most children (perhaps in a foreshadowing of their teenage and college years) will not enjoy studying word sounds when they could be playing. The perfect solution to this is an educational game, like First Letters for Fun! which provides a much more fun and enjoyable way to learn than traditional books about the alphabet. Designed as a cooperative and interactive experience, First Letters for Fun! is presented in a fun game-like format for young children to play with their parents or someone else who can read. Letters are presented as pictures of common objects, and the child is prompted to select the correct letter from a list of choices. The appropriate letter sounds, M-Z in this book, are often presented in many of the choices, whether right or wrong. While the book is designed as a learning experience for the alphabet for kids, an adult is preferred to help the child work through the book. Luckily though, after a few read-throughs of the book, and with the help of picture recognition and repetitive letter sounds, a child may even be able to go through the book themselves!

Book Synopsis Letters of Frank Sargeson by : Sarah Shieff
Download or read book Letters of Frank Sargeson written by Sarah Shieff and published by Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited. This book was released on 2012-02-03 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rich and riveting record of both literary and social value. Frank Sargeson is one of New Zealand's best-loved and most important writers. Besides the ground-breaking short stories, he wrote memoirs, novels, and plays. He encouraged at least three generations of younger writers and, for most of his adult life, the famous bach behind the hedge at 14 Esmonde Road was at the heart of New Zealand's artistic and literary world. Sargeson was also a prolific letter writer, and this selection of 500 of the most fascinating ranges over half a century, from 1927 to 1981. The letters are immensely readable, vividly capturing his life and times, his milieu and his personality. Frank loved gossip, could be bitchy and peevish, but also kind, affectionate, funny, ribald, astute. This collection, selected, edited and annotated by Sarah Shieff, is a document of extraordinary significance for all those interested in New Zealand's literary and social history.

Book Synopsis Letters of Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1895-1958 by : Hugh Cobbe
Download or read book Letters of Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1895-1958 written by Hugh Cobbe and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-09-09 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book comprises a selection of some 750 letters of the composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams, selected from an extant corpus of about 3,300. The letters are arranged chronologically and have been chosen to provide a cumulative pen-picture of the composer in his own words. In general the letters reflect VW's major preoccupations: musical, personal and political. It was not VW's way to discuss his inner creative processes but he does discuss his music, once it had been written: for example there is much to illustrate the process of 'washing the face' of his major pieces before, and after, they had reached the concert platform. There is correspondence with collaborators such as Gilbert Murray, Harold Child and Evelyn Sharpe who provided texts; with his publishers (mainly OUP) about printing scores and parts; with conductors such as Adrian Boult and John Barbirolli about performances. He was in regular correspondence with fellow composers such as Gustav Holst, George Butterworth, Gerald Finzi, Herbert Howells, John Ireland, Alan Bush and Rutland Boughton. There were his pupils: Elizabeth Maconchy and Cedric Thorpe Davie amongst others. A series of close personal friendships is well represented: his Cambridge contemporary and cousin Ralph Wedgwood, Edward Dent, and latterly Michael Kennedy. Above all there are insights on his lifelong devotion to his first wife, Adeline, and his growing friendship with Ursula Wood, who was to become his second wife.
Book Synopsis A Victorian Odyssey: The 1858 Ð 1872 Letters of Mungo Travers Park by : Geoffrey Faux
Download or read book A Victorian Odyssey: The 1858 Ð 1872 Letters of Mungo Travers Park written by Geoffrey Faux and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-04-10 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Victorian Odyssey is a contemporaneous account of middle class Victorian English life related through the letters of Mungo Travers Park to his family in Madeira. These letters, starting in 1858, portray life as a schoolboy at Durham School, as an undergraduate at Lincoln College Oxford, then as a curate (Hewish near Weston super mare), as teacher in 3 public schools (The Forest School, Glenalmond and Sherborne School) before becoming head of Louth Grammar School and subsequently Oundle. Mungo marries Alice Piers (the grand-daughter of the notorious seducer St John Piers) in 1872. The letters go on to relate their early married life and the birth of their first child. This book is the result of two years painstaking research by Mungo' great grandson, transcribing letters and researching the wider family tree and will be of interest to anyone researching their own family tree in the latter half of the nineteenth century.
