She was also a writer, photographer, and book editor, a lover of history, culture, and arts, a cultural ambassador and a humanitarian. She was Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, one of the most famous and admired women of the 20th century. But she was also a woman of many contradictions and controversies. She was a shy and private person who became a public figure and a fashion icon. She was a loyal and devoted wife who endured her husband's infidelities and assassination. She was a dignified and elegant lady who posed nude for a photographer and married a Greek tycoon. She was a refined and cultured woman who worked as a book editor and supported various causes. In this brief biography, you will discover the story of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, from her birth in 1929 to her death in 1994. You will learn about her childhood and education, her career and marriage, her role as the first lady, her widowhood and remarriage, and her later years and legacy. You will explore her personality and character, her strengths and weaknesses, her passions and preferences, Scandals and betrayals, her hopes and fears. You will also examine her impact and influence on American society and culture, as well as on the world at large. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was not a flawless woman. She enjoyed the country life with her parents and her younger sister Lee. In what became life-long interests, she developed an expertise at horseback riding, and enduring love of books, and a great delight in writing poetry. Jacqueline attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut where she excelled academically. She was accepted at Vassar and attended for one year. She then studied in Paris, becoming fluent in French, before transferring to George Washington University in Washington, DC were she earned a degree in French literature in 1951. Following her graduation, Jacqueline took a job as the “Inquiring Camera Girl” for the Washington Times-Herald, and met then-Congressman, soon-to-be-Senator, John F. Kennedy, at a dinner party. They were married on September 12, 1953. Jacqueline Kennedy became, at 31, the century's youngest First Lady and from the moment of her magnificent debut at the Inauguration, captivated the Nation and the world. This book is a collection of Memorial Tributes in the One Hundred Third Congress of the United States. In June of 1994 a “Resolution of Respect” to authorize the printing of statements made in tribute to the late First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis submitted by the Senator from Maine (Mr. Mitchell) and the Republican Leader (Mr. Dole), and others, was requested and without objection, it was so ordered. The resolution was agreed to, as follows: “Resolved, that there shall be printed as a Senate document a collection of statements made in tribute to the late First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, together with appropriate illustrations and other materials relating to her death.”~

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poignant, evocative, and wonderfully gossipy account of the two sisters who represented style and class above all else—Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Lee Radziwill—from the authors of Furious Love. When sixty-four-year-old Jackie Kennedy Onassis died in her Fifth Avenue apartment, her younger sister Lee wept inconsolably. Then Jackie’s thirty-eight-page will was read. Lee discovered that substantial cash bequests were left to family members, friends, and employees—but nothing to her. "I have made no provision in this my Will for my sister, Lee B. Radziwill, for whom I have great affection, because I have already done so during my lifetime," read Jackie’s final testament. Drawing on the authors’ candid interviews with Lee Radziwill, The Fabulous Bouvier Sisters explores their complicated relationship, placing them at the center of twentieth-century fashion, design, and style. In life, Jackie and Lee were alike in so many ways. Both women had a keen eye for beauty—in fashion, design, painting, music, dance, sculpture, poetry—and both were talented artists. Both loved pre-revolutionary Russian culture, and the blinding sunlight, calm seas, and ancient olive groves of Greece. Both loved the siren call of the Atlantic, sharing sweet, early memories of swimming with the rakish father they adored, Jack Vernou Bouvier, at his East Hampton retreat. But Jackie was her father’s favorite, and Lee, her mother’s. One would grow to become the most iconic woman of her time, while the other lived in her shadow. As they grew up, the two sisters developed an extremely close relationship threaded with rivalry, jealousy, and competition. Yet it was probably the most important relationship of their lives. For the first time, Vanity Fair contributing editor Sam Kashner and acclaimed biographer Nancy Schoenberger tell the complete story of these larger-than-life sisters. Drawing on new information and extensive interviews with Lee, now eighty-four, this dual biography sheds light on the public and private lives of two extraordinary women who lived through immense tragedy in enormous glamour.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instant New York Times and USA Today bestseller! The untold story of how one woman's life was changed forever in a matter of seconds by a horrific trauma. Barbara Leaming's extraordinary and deeply sensitive biography is the first book to document Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' brutal, lonely and valiant thirty-one year struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that followed JFK's assassination. Here is the woman as she has never been seen before. In heartrending detail, we witness a struggle that unfolded at times before our own eyes, but which we failed to understand. Leaming's biography also makes clear the pattern of Jackie's life as a whole. We see how a spirited young woman's rejection of a predictable life led her to John F. Kennedy and the White House, how she sought to reconcile the conflicts of her marriage and the role she was to play, and how the trauma of her husband's murder which left her soaked in his blood and brains led her to seek a very different kind of life from the one she'd previously sought. A life story that has been scrutinized countless times, seen here for the first time as the serious and important story that it is. A story for our times at a moment when we as a nation need more than ever to understand the impact of trauma.
