Book Synopsis Featured Reviews in Mathematical Reviews 1997-1999 by : Donald G. Babbitt
Download or read book Featured Reviews in Mathematical Reviews 1997-1999 written by Donald G. Babbitt and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000-05-05 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of Featured Reviews makes available special detailed reviews of some of the most important mathematical articles and books published from 1997 through 1999. Also included are excellent reviews of several classic books and articles published prior to 1970. Among those reviews, for example, are the following: Homological Algebra by Henri Cartan and Samuel Eilenberg, reviewed by G. Hochschild; Faisceaux algebriques coherents by Jean-Pierre Serre, reviewed by C. Chevalley; and On the Theory of General Partial Differential Operators by Lars Hormander, reviewed by J. L. Lions. In particular, those seeking information on current developments outside their own area of expertise will find the volume very useful. By identifying some of the best publications, papers, and books that have had or are expected to have a significant impact in applied and pure mathematics, this volume will serve as a comprehensive guide to important new research across all fields covered by MR.
Book Synopsis The Classification of Countable Homogeneous Directed Graphs and Countable Homogeneous $n$-tournaments by : Gregory L. Cherlin
Download or read book The Classification of Countable Homogeneous Directed Graphs and Countable Homogeneous $n$-tournaments written by Gregory L. Cherlin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Ramsey theoretic methods introduced by Lachlan are applied to classify the countable homogeneous directed graphs. This is an uncountable collection, and this book presents the first explicit classification result covering an uncountable family. The author's aim is to demonstrate the potential of Lachlan's method for systematic use.

This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the Conference on Algebra and Algebraic Geometry with Applications, July 19 – 26, 2000, at Purdue University to honor Professor Shreeram S. Abhyankar on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. Eighty-five of Professor Abhyankar's students, collaborators, and colleagues were invited participants. Sixty participants presented papers related to Professor Abhyankar's broad areas of mathematical interest. Sessions were held on algebraic geometry, singularities, group theory, Galois theory, combinatorics, Drinfield modules, affine geometry, and the Jacobian problem. This volume offers an outstanding collection of papers by expert authors.
Book Synopsis Mathematicians in Bologna 1861–1960 by : Salvatore COEN
Download or read book Mathematicians in Bologna 1861–1960 written by Salvatore COEN and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-11 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scientific personalities of Luigi Cremona, Eugenio Beltrami, Salvatore Pincherle, Federigo Enriques, Beppo Levi, Giuseppe Vitali, Beniamino Segre and of several other mathematicians who worked in Bologna in the century 1861–1960 are examined by different authors, in some cases providing different view points. Most contributions in the volume are historical; they are reproductions of original documents or studies on an original work and its impact on later research. The achievements of other mathematicians are investigated for their present-day importance.

Book Synopsis Commutative Algebra by : Irena Peeva
Download or read book Commutative Algebra written by Irena Peeva and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This contributed volume is a follow-up to the 2013 volume of the same title, published in honor of noted Algebraist David Eisenbud's 65th birthday. It brings together the highest quality expository papers written by leaders and talented junior mathematicians in the field of Commutative Algebra. Contributions cover a very wide range of topics, including core areas in Commutative Algebra and also relations to Algebraic Geometry, Category Theory, Combinatorics, Computational Algebra, Homological Algebra, Hyperplane Arrangements, and Non-commutative Algebra. The book aims to showcase the area and aid junior mathematicians and researchers who are new to the field in broadening their background and gaining a deeper understanding of the current research in this area. Exciting developments are surveyed and many open problems are discussed with the aspiration to inspire the readers and foster further research.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Liaison Theory and Deficiency Modules by : Juan C. Migliore
Download or read book Introduction to Liaison Theory and Deficiency Modules written by Juan C. Migliore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-08-25 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fall of 1992 I was invited by Professor Changho Keem to visit Seoul National University and give a series of talks. I was asked to write a monograph based on my talks, and the result was published by the Global Analysis Research Center of that University in 1994. The monograph treated deficiency modules and liaison theory for complete intersections. Over the next several years I continually thought of improvements and additions that I would like to make to the manuscript, and at the same time my research led me in directions that gave me a fresh perspective on much of the material, especially in the direction of liaison theory. This re sulted in a dramatic change in the focus of this manuscript, from complete intersections to Gorenstein ideals, and a substantial amount of additions and revisions. It is my hope that this book now serves not only as an introduction to a beautiful subject, but also gives the reader a glimpse at very recent developments and an idea of the direction in which liaison theory is going, at least from my perspective. One theme which I have tried to stress is the tremendous amount of geometry which lies at the heart of the subject, and the beautiful interplay between algebra and geometry. Whenever possible I have given remarks and examples to illustrate this interplay, and I have tried to phrase the results in as geometric a way as possible.
