Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of student perceptions of scholastic competence, social acceptance, and support from teachers, parents, and peers, on academic resiliency as demonstrated by final grades in mathematics and language arts during the transition from sixth to seventh grade. The perceptions of 134 eighth grade students who had demonstrated varying levels of resiliency as defined by language arts and mathematics grades in sixth and seventh grades were measured using Harter's Self Perception Profile for Children and the Social Support Scale for Children. Perceptions from the participants' data revealed that most students scored above random levels with the strongest perceptions found among those students demonstrating improvement in one of the subject areas while maintaining achievement level in the other subject area. Correlations were determined for five domains and the level of academic resiliency resulting in one significant negative correlation at the p
