Download or read book F-22 Raptor in Action written by Lou Drendel and published by MMD-Squadron Signal. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The single-seat, twin-engine Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor is the world's first operational fifth-generation fighter, a new plateau in fighter design, surpassing the F-15 and MiG-29 capabilities. This volume traces the history of the Raptor and describes in detail why it is likely to be the world's best fighter for years to come. Although the Raptor was designed for air superiority, it also embodies ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence features. After years in planning and development, the US Air Force announced plans to purchase more than 600 F-22 Raptors in 1991. Cutbacks in 1993 reduced the number to 442. With the onset of the Obama Administration, Raptor production was capped at 187 units. As challenges to US global leadership mount, however, the Raptor's capabilities will face increasing demand.

Download or read book Jet Girl written by Caroline Johnson and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh, unique insider’s view of what it’s like to be a woman aviator in today’s US Navy—from pedicures to parachutes, friendship to firefights. Caroline Johnson was an unlikely aviation candidate. A tall blonde debutante from Colorado, she could have just as easily gone into fashion or filmmaking, and yet she went on to become an F/A-18 Super Hornet Weapons System Officer. She was one of the first women to fly a combat mission over Iraq since 2011, and one of the first women to drop bombs on ISIS. Jet Girl tells the remarkable story of the women fighting at the forefront in a military system that allows them to reach the highest peaks, and yet is in many respects still a fraternity. Johnson offers an insider’s view on the fascinating, thrilling, dangerous and, at times, glamorous world of being a naval aviator. This is a coming-of age story about a young college-aged woman who draws strength from a tight knit group of friends, called the Jet Girls, and struggles with all the ordinary problems of life: love, work, catty housewives, father figures, make-up, wardrobe, not to mention being put into harm’s way daily with terrorist groups such as ISIS and world powers such as Russia and Iran. Some of the most memorable parts of the book are about real life in training, in the air and in combat—how do you deal with having to pee in a cockpit the size of a bumper car going 600 miles an hour? Not just a memoir, this book also aims to change the conversation and to inspire and attract the next generation of men and women who are tempted to explore a life of adventure and service.

Book Synopsis Live Fire Testing of the F-22 by : National Research Council
Download or read book Live Fire Testing of the F-22 written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1995-07-17 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Live Fire Test Law mandates realistic survivability and lethality testing of covered systems or programs. A provision of the law permits the Secretary of Defense to waive tests if live fire testing would be "unreasonably expensive and impractical." Though no waiver was requested before the F-22 program entered engineering and manufacturing development, the Defense Department later asked that Congress enact legislation to permit a waiver to be granted retroactively. Rather than enact such legislation, Congress requested a study to explore the pros and cons of full-scale, full-up testing for the F-22 aircraft program. The book discusses the origin of testing requirements, evaluates the practicality, affordability, and cost-benefit of live fire tests, and examines the role of testing, modeling, and data bases in vulnerability assessment.
