Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wouldn’t it be great if your child could exercise, have fun, and build concentration skills all at the same time? In 2006, the Little Flower Yoga program was developed by teacher and certified yoga instructor Jennifer Cohen Harper, when her successful use of yoga in her kindergarten classroom led to requests by other students, teachers, and administrators for yoga programs of their own. Harper slowly began to teach more and more yoga classes, and eventually recruited other yoga teachers with education backgrounds to continue growing what had become a flourishing program. Little Flower Yoga for Kidsoffers this fun and unique program combining yoga and mindfulness in an easy-to-read format. Written specifically for parents and kids, the book aims at teaching children to pay attention, increase focus, and balance their emotions—all while building physical strength and flexibility. Based on a growing body of evidence that yoga and mindfulness practices can help children develop focus and concentration, the simple yoga exercises in this book can easily be integrated into their child’s daily routine, ultimately improving health, behavior, and even school achievement. The book details the five main components of the program: connect, breath, move, focus, and relax. Drawing on these components, Harper shares practical activities that parents can use with their children both on a daily basis and as applied to particularly challenging issues. And while this book is targeted to parents, teachers may also find it extremely useful in helping students achieve better attention and focus. Book excerpt: Consuming over 40% of total primary energy, the built environment is in the centre of worldwide strategies and measures towards a more sustainable future. To provide resilient solutions, a simple optimisation of individual technologies will not be sufficient. In contrast, whole system thinking reveals and exploits connections between parts. Each system interacts with others on different scales (materials, components, buildings, cities) and domains (ecology, economy and social). Whole-system designers optimize the performance of such systems by understanding interconnections and identifying synergies. The more complete the design integration, the better the result. In this book, the reader will find the proceedings of the 2016 Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) Regional Conference in Zurich. Papers have been written by academics and practitioners from all continents to bring forth the latest understanding on systems thinking in the built environment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies second stage challenges and opportunities for expanding renewable energy into a mainstay of electricity generation that can replace fossil fuels and nuclear power, comparing Japan with several countries in East Asia and Northern Europe. Environmentally sustainable renewable energy technologies have now overtaken fossil fuel and nuclear technologies in terms of total global investment, and the costs of these technologies and related ones (e.g. storage batteries) are rapidly falling. Yet renewable energy use varies greatly from country to country. Major second stage obstacles to replacing fossil and nuclear-fueled electricity generation include the lack of electricity grid capacity and storage assets. Opportunities and solutions include expanding grids regionally and internationally, building flexible smart grids that offer better demand management, and policies that promote the expansion of storage assets, especially grid batteries and hydrogen. In addition, two key factors – electricity market restructuring through unbundling transmission from electricity generating companies; and electricity market liberalization, especially for retail customers – allow consumers to choose power companies based not only on price, but also on method of generation, especially fossil or nuclear generation versus renewable energy.

Book excerpt: "Moscow's overarching ambition toward Europe is to expand the "Eurasian space" in which Russia is the dominant political player. For Moscow, this means transforming Europe into an appendage of the Russian sphere of influence and debilitating Euro-Atlanticism by undercutting Europe's connections with the United States. The author explains that the most effective and realistic long-term Western strategy toward Russia needs to combine "practical engagement" with "strategic assertiveness.""--BOOK JACKET.

Book excerpt: This report is the documentation from the project "Expanding the Scope of the EuP Directive", financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers for the Environment. The project was kick-started by the adoption the ErP Directive (Directive 2009/125/EC). The recast means that Energy-related Products now are included in the scope of the. With this expansion of the scope to energy related products, focus is put on interesting issues, which have already been discussed in relation to Sustainable Consumption and Production in the EU. This concern: How can a common information platform be ensured, which can feed the setting of requirements for both energy- and eco-labelling, green procurement guidelines and performance requirements in for instance the ErP Directive? How is an optimal synergy between the minimum performance requirements in the ErP Directive, the energy labelling of all products and incentives for front-runner companies through eco-labels? The aim of this project was to organise a Workshop on Ecodesign and Resource Efficiency. The intention was to bring leading experts and other interested stakeholders together to discuss these issues. The Nordic perspective of the conference should be a common understanding of (1) how the ErP Directive and especially the Implementing measures could be changed to include more environmental requirements than just energy efficiency, (2) how the different ecodesign directives can supplement each other, (3) how a common information platform for IPP instruments can be realised and (4) how a synergy between minimum performance standards and energy- and ecolabels can be established.

Book excerpt: The Future of The Expanding Cosmos is the twenty-third instalment in the Little Blue Book Series and comprises of discourse thirty-nine of the Monodoxy which is itself the first disquisition of the Omnidoxy, the founding treatise of Astronism. This single-discourse publication introduces the discipline of cosmontology known as omnology which deals with all theories, concepts, and beliefs regarding the nature, form, purpose, and eventualities of the expansion of The Cosmos. The Little Blue Book Series was created and first published by Cometan himself as a way to simplify and commercialise the immensity of the two million word length of the Omnidoxy into smaller, more bite-size publications. A successful series from its very first published entry, the Little Blue Book Series has gone on to become a symbol of Astronist commercial literature and a way for Cometan’s words to reach readers of all ages and abilities who remain daunted by the beauty and yet the sheer extensiveness of the Omnidoxy as the longest religious text in history.

Book excerpt: It is well established that population inversions between the (001) and (100) vibrational energy levels of CO2 can be created by rapid expansions of CO2-N2-H2O or He mixtures through supersonic nozzles. New experimental results are presented for such inversions. These experiments were conducted in both the 3-Megawatt Arc Tunnel and the 12.7 cm Shock Tunnel at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory. The results support previously published theoretical predictions obtained with a numerical, time-dependent, nonequilibrium nozzle flow analysis employing a simplified vibrational kinetic model. This theory is also compared with experimental data obtained by other investigators. (Author).
