Understanding the principle of repentance at a deeper level is often overshadowed by the simplistic reciting of the five-step process of repentance: (1) recognition, (2) remorse, (3) confession, (4) restitution, and (5) forgiveness. But repenting is so much more than a checklist step in the process to get on the righteous path. When confronted by a Primary child's innocent question about repentance, author G. Alan Ruppe realized that something was missing from his lifelong simplistic view of what it means to repent. The intense research and spiritual revelation that stemmed from that awakening culminate in this insightful discussion about the nature of sincere, divine repentance and forgiveness. In Repentance: Refining the Mortal Journey, discover The historical definitions of biblical repentance and how translations over time have skewed our perception of this sacred practice. The difference between sins and mortal mistakes, when and why repentance is necessary, and how repentance relates to our God-given agency. How to receive divine forgiveness and become once again clean and pure through the Atonement of Christ. Real repentance, the kind desired for us by our Heavenly Parents, is an emotionally and spiritually painful process, but it is a course that will help develop our repentance from an abstract perception to a genuine way of life. A deeper understanding of its purpose will reveal avenues to stronger faith, richer experiences, and more profound joy as we journey through this mortal life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Eve's Journey, Nehama Aschkenasy traces the migration of several female images and feminine situations from their early appearances in Biblical writings to their incarnations in modern Hebraic literature. Focusing on the evolution of early female archetypes and prototypes, Aschkenasy uncovers the ancient roots of modern female characters and traces the changing cultural perceptions of women in Hebraic letters. The author draws on the vast body of Hebraic literary documents to illustrate how the female character is a mirror of her times as well as being a product of her creator''s imagination and conception of the woman's role in society and in fiction. The historical spectrum, provided by a discussion of Biblical narratives, Midrashic sources, documents of the Jewish mystics, Hasidic tales, and modern Hebrew works, allows an understanding of the metamorphosis that the female figure has experienced in her literary odyssey.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The specter of polygamy haunts Mormonism. More than a century after the practice was banned, it casts a long shadow that obscures people's perceptions of the lives of today's Latter-day Saint women. Many still see them as second-class citizens, oppressed by the church and their husbands, and forced to stay home and take care of their many children. Sister Saints offers a history of modern Mormon women that takes aim at these stereotypes, showing that their stories are much more complex than previously thought. Women in the Utah territory received the right to vote in 1870-fifty years before the nineteenth amendment-only to have it taken away by the same federal legislation that forced the end of polygamy. Progressive and politically active, Mormon women had a profound impact on public life in the first few decades of the twentieth century. They then turned inward, creating a domestic ideal that shaped Mormon culture for generations. The women's movement of the 1970s sparked a new, vigorous-and hotly contested-Mormon feminism that divided Latter-day Saint women. By the twenty-first century more than half of all Mormons lived outside the United States, and what had once been a small community of pioneer women had grown into a diverse global sisterhood. Colleen McDannell argues that we are on the verge of an era in which women are likely to play a greater role in the Mormon church. Well-educated, outspoken, and deeply committed to their faith, these women are defying labels like liberal and conservative, traditional and modern. This deeply researched and eye-opening book ranges over more than a century of history to tell the stories of extraordinary-and ordinary-Latter-day Saint women with empathy and narrative flair.

Her unrelenting public support of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) made her the face of LDS feminism while her subsequent excommunication roiled the faith community. Christine Talbot tells the story of Sonia’s historic confrontation with the Church within the context of the faith’s first large-scale engagement with the feminist movement. A typical if well-educated Latter-day Saints homemaker, Sonia was moved to action by the all-male LDS leadership’s opposition to the ERA and a belief the Church should stay out of politics. Talbot uses the activist’s experiences and criticisms to explore the ways Sonia’s ideas and situation sparked critical questions about LDS thought, culture, and belief. She also illuminates how Sonia’s excommunication shaped LDS feminism, the Church’s antagonism to feminist critiques, and the Church itself in the years to come. A revealing and long-overdue account, Sonia Johnson explores the life, work, and impact of the LDS feminist.

Just saying the word brings to mind the idea of mass destruction. Many think of a fiery end to life on earth or of zombies shuffling ominously through the streets. Focusing on the negative makes it an unpleasant subject. Contrary to these ideas, this book on the Apocalypse focuses on the great blessings that the righteous will receive when the Lord comes—a great and glorious day with no fear of the destruction that will simultaneously come down upon the heads of the wicked. For the wicked, it will indeed be a dreadful day, and they will call upon the mountains and rocks to hide them when the full fury of the Lord's anger is poured out upon them (see Revelation 6:16). For the righteous, it will be a day of unimaginable joy—a day of resurrection, of peace, of safety, and of living under the rule of our Eternal King, the Lord Jesus Christ. If we remember this, we can more fully appreciate the "great day" aspect of the Second Coming of Christ, as opposed to a fearful approach. That is the purpose of this book, so that we, along with the Apostle John on the Isle of Patmos, will feel to say, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus[!]" (Revelation 22:20). The cover features a stunning image of the Lord descending through the clouds of glory, as painted by Del Parson.

Book excerpt: Think! In Mark 12:24 Jesus said, "Are you not therefore deceived, not being acquainted with the Scriptures nor yet the Power of God?" Be knowing, the Scriptures are the Word - the complete expression of God's Thought and contain the Power of God's Thought. The Bible on the other hand is but the letter, men's letters, men's interpretations of the Scriptures and contain not the Power of God's Word but contain only the force of men's reasoning, men's intellect. One could say that the Bible is but the survey for the Scripture Digs. The Great Journey in Pursuit of Jesus' Way, Truth & Life is my personal daily journal during the years of 1998 and 1999. Everything I write is hand written so great care was taken in transcribing my written journal into this format. By great care I mean transcribing word for word along with their misspellings and errors so that it would allow you the reader to travel with me every day. In this journal I share what I took notice of and took notes on during my journey. Some things I perceived during this journey gave me new questions to question as well as answers to questions that I have repeatedly asked myself over many years. Travel with me through my 1998-1999 journal as we embark on this Great Journey in pursuit of Jesus' Way, Truth and Life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encountering Eve's Afterlives: A New Reception Critical Approach to Genesis 2-4 aims to destabilize the persistently pessimistic framing of Eve as a highly negative symbol of femininity within Western culture by engaging with marginal, and even heretical, interpretations that focus on more positive aspects of her character. In doing so, this book questions the myth that orthodox, popular readings represent the 'true' meaning of the first woman's story, and explores the possibility that previously ignored or muted rewritings of Eve are in fact equally 'valid' interpretations of the biblical text. By staging encounters between the biblical Eve and re-writings of her story, particularly those that help to challenge the interpretative status quo, this book re-frames the first woman using three key themes from her story: sin, knowledge, and life. Thus, it considers how and why the image of Eve as a dangerous temptress has gained considerably more cultural currency than the equally viable pictures of her as a subversive wise woman or as a mourning mother. The book offers a re-evaluation of the meanings and the myths of Eve, deconstructing the dominance of her cultural incarnation as a predominantly flawed female, and reconstructing a more nuanced presentation of the first woman's role in the Bible and beyond.

This includes the Zion of Enoch, the Zion of Melchizedek, the attempted Zion of Moses, the Zion of the early Christian Church, and the Zion achieved by the Nephites in the New World. The book then discusses the attempt in our own last days to establish a Zion society in anticipation of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. The essential characteristics of a Zion society, such as the Law of Consecration, are described, along with a review of the efforts of the Latter-day Saints to establish such a community. Finally, the book describes the eventual triumph of Zion at Jerusalem and New Jerusalem, along with the return of Jesus Christ to rule and reign in these celestial cities. The cover features a beautiful image of the New Jerusalem descending through the clouds of glory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A GODLY MANS GUIDE TO COVERING THE WOMAN OF GOD FROM A W.O.W.W.W.W WOMANS PERSPECTIVE In view of what has been established in my Trilogy for both males and females, leaders and laymen, this journey continues as a spin-off from: God, Why Didnt He Cover Me? As I have been criticized about the wording of the current book title, I need you to roll with me on this one. As this book has become a personal conversation with my race of people, reader discretion is advised. If it had been intended for Esaus descendents, I would have asked: Hey Adam, Where Art Thou? But since God has expanded my ability to communicate an exclusive message, this book has been deliberately downloaded for the Tribe of Judah. In translating the artistic nature of Heaven onto the earth, I need you to comprehend the words that are coming out of the Fathers mouth. Disclaimer: Just as this intriguing component continues to offer a unique smorgasbord of legitimate inquiries that may not fit the typical readers practical perspective, the project is intentionally informal with jargon-laden language that may not be acceptable by church folks and academic audiences. So if you are the traditional, super-spiritual Christian thats speaking in super-sonic tongues, this book will likely press your religious buttons. Even as the progressive theology may go beyond the capacity of your traditional beliefs, your personal opinions are no indication that God has stopped speaking (see Mt. 4:4). So in viewing the world with an inquisitive eye that may not fit the general patterns, I trust that you will notice that this book treads on prophetic territory. Now that I have pre-warned you of the inevitable, I invite you to explore a very rare assessment of the first and last Adam. Especially rewarding for the reader who values the fact that Adam was the figure of HIM who was to come, my question is: Could it possibly be that Adam was engaged in covering his bride and not preoccupied with hiding his sin? In my opinion, because Eve was the weaker vessel, Adam took the fall and willfully gave up his immortality, in order to become her covering. Why? So that there would be no record on Earth suggesting that the world was in sin because of her transgression. For as by one mans disobedience many were made sinners (Rom. 5:19a). Why Adam would demonstrate perfect love and give up immortality for the love of a woman is really the focus of my investigation. Why Jesus would give up immortality and leave the Father to die on an old rugged cross is a large part of the conclusion. Evidently, when God looks at us, He sees Jesus, but when He looked at Eve, He saw Adam. All over the world, Jesus was the Lamb, but Adam, you da man because you took a stand. Brace yourself, as this provocative revelation may likely augment your investment. In my southern colloquial and best Ebonics, allow me to say it like Im feeling it, Hey Adam, where you at? Im gonna need you to take a stand, and be da man! Come on yall, lets get back to Eden!
