Book excerpt: In This Follow-Up to Gospel People, Michael Reeves Calls Evangelicals Away from Pharisaism to True Reformation Scripture warns believers of hypocrisy—called the "leaven of the Pharisees"—and its potential to spread quickly in the church. Outwardly appearing as devout religion, this legalism hides destructive pride, idolatry, and even apostasy. Unfortunately, pharisaism is still a problem among evangelicals today. How does Jesus instruct the church to recognize and defeat one of its deepest theological issues? In this clear, compelling call to spiritual reformation, Michael Reeves helps believers reject pharisaism and embrace gospel integrity. Studying 3 essentials of Christian doctrine that the Pharisees misunderstood—their approach to Scripture, understanding of salvation, and disregard of regeneration—Reeves shows readers how to embrace a biblical, Trinitarian, and creedal understanding of the gospel necessary for true reformation. Explains the 3 Essential R's of the Gospel: Teaches readers about revelation, redemption, and regeneration A Great Resource for Pastors and Congregations: Addresses the threat of hypocrisy in the church, and tackles in-house issues from partisanship to pragmatism A Follow-Up to Gospel People: Reeves continues his study of timely evangelical topics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reproduces a candid exchange of letters between two leading religious figures ' an evangelical preacher and a senior Jewish rabbi. This groundbreaking publication is a rare opportunity to read the heartfelt correspondence of two prolific and acclaimed theologians, as they both seek to vigorously defend their own beliefs and allow themselves to be challenged by the claims of the other. As the discussion continues we see mutual respect grow and a strong friendship forged before the relationship is inevitably tested as they encounter points of seemingly irreconcilable differences. Though there are issues and beliefs which separate the two theological camps, this book shows how they share enough to not only get along, but form strong alliances.

Having assimilated classical Pentecostalism and the charismatic movement, and having begun to find ways of working with the Caribbean Pentecostal denominations, it remained to be seen how UK evangelicalism would fare with African Pentecostals. This book looks at the intricacies of the relationship at a time that provided ample opportunities to weigh the benefits and challenges of integration from every possible angle.

This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American evangelicalism has recently experienced a new openness to Roman Catholicism, and many evangelicals, both famous and ordinary, have joined the Catholic Church or are considering the possibility. This book helps evangelicals who are exploring Catholicism to sort out the kind of concerns that typically come up in discerning whether to enter into the full communion of the Catholic Church. In simple language, it explains many theological misunderstandings that evangelicals often have about Catholicism and suggests the kind of practical steps many take to enter the Catholic Church. The book frames evangelicals becoming Roman Catholic as a kind of "paradigm shift" involving the buildup of anomalies about evangelicalism, a crisis of the evangelical paradigm, a paradigm revolution, and the consolidation of the new Catholic paradigm. It will be useful for both evangelicals interested in pursuing and understanding Catholicism and Catholic pastoral workers seeking to help evangelical seekers who come to them.

This book was released on 2014-11-15 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, layperson Kevin Mahoney argues that Christian churches should embrace same sex marriage. Although many conservative Christians reject homosexuality due to the laws of Moses, Kevin points out that very few (if any) of these three-thousand-year-old Mosaic laws are upheld today, and that homophobia is contrary to the spirit and manner of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus himself never condemned homosexuality; however, He did illuminate the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Kevin argues that the Pharisees are very much alive today in the form of conservative Christians that proscribe homosexuality. Since most of the laws against homosexuality around the world have a religious basis, then this book's demolition of the conservative Christian argument against homosexuality will also be instructive for non-religious LGBT rights campaigners. Using the Parable of the Prodigal Son as an analogy, Kevin outlines how liberal and conservative Christians can finally agree on the divisive issue of same sex marriage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Evangelical Theology—God: Essential Christian Beliefs About God" is an in-depth exploration into the heart of Christian theology, offering a comprehensive understanding of God from an evangelical perspective. This book, rich in scholarly insights, guides the reader through a journey of understanding the nature, attributes, and work of God. The book begins by establishing foundational concepts in theology and exploring various worldviews that shape our understanding of God. It delves into the metaphysical arguments for God's existence, comparing and contrasting various theistic perspectives, and addressing common objections. "Evangelical Theology—God" then considers the role of miracles as evidence of the supernatural, and the importance of divine revelation for theological knowledge. It takes a deep dive into the person and attributes of God, presenting Him as a spirit, a self-existent being, unchangeable, eternal, and limitless. Continuing further, the book explores the Law of God, its nature and purpose, while also highlighting key scriptural passages. It provides guidance on working for God, emphasizing service, stewardship, spreading the Gospel, and demonstrating the power of faith at work. In later chapters, the book explores the concept of waiting on God, trusting in His timing, and understanding His providence. It concludes by offering practical steps to strengthen our relationship with God and to live a life that pleases Him. This book is a profound resource for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of God from an evangelical perspective. It's a must-read for theology students, pastors, Christian educators, and believers who wish to deepen their faith and relationship with God.

This book was released on 2023-01-10 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Supererogation" is an awkward term but a useful concept. While not a term that we use every day, the concept is very familiar to most of us. It is an act that is neither obligatory nor forbidden and that possesses moral worth. While Roman Catholics and a large number of moral philosophers affirm the possibility and value of such acts, Evangelicals from the time of the Reformation have rejected them. Yet, this is to their detriment. Relying on Gregory Mellema's insight that acts of supererogation are possible without compromising the orthodox Evangelical doctrine of justification, I argue that there is clear evidence for supererogation in the New Testament and that performing such deeds with a proper motive is essential in an Evangelical account of supererogation. It is my hope that Evangelicals will reconsider the possibility of supererogation and embrace the concept as a useful tool in counseling contexts, biblical interpretation, and homiletics.
