Book Synopsis Formation validante de 40 heures en éducation thérapeutique du patient proposée de façon expérimentale à huit internes SASPAS by : Lauriane Foucaud
Download or read book Formation validante de 40 heures en éducation thérapeutique du patient proposée de façon expérimentale à huit internes SASPAS written by Lauriane Foucaud and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Art of Being a Parasite by : Claude Combes
Download or read book The Art of Being a Parasite written by Claude Combes and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2020-06-05 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parasites are a masterful work of evolutionary art. The tiny mite Histiostoma laboratorium, a parasite of Drosophila, launches itself, in an incredible display of evolutionary engineering, like a surface-to-air missile at a fruit fly far above its head. Gravid mussels such as Lampsilis ventricosa undulate excitedly as they release their parasitic larval offspring, conning greedy predators in search of a tasty meal into hosting the parasite. The Art of Being a Parasite is an extensive collection of these and other wonderful and weird stories that illuminate the ecology and evolution of interactions between species. Claude Combes illustrates what it means to be a parasite by considering every stage of its interactions, from invading to reproducing and leaving the host. An accessible and engaging follow-up to Combes's Parasitism, this book will be of interest to both scholars and nonspecialists in the fields of biodiversity, natural history, ecology, public health, and evolution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1960s and 1970s, becoming a rock musician was fundamentally different than playing other kinds of music. It was a learned rather than a taught skill. In On Becoming a Rock Musician, sociologist H. Stith Bennett observes what makes someone a rock musician and what persuades others to take him seriously in this role. The book explores how bands form; the backstage and onstage reality of playing in a band; how bands promote themselves and interact with audiences and music professionals like DJs; and the role of performance.

Book Synopsis Religion and the Global City by : David Garbin
Download or read book Religion and the Global City written by David Garbin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to explore how religious movements and actors shape and are shaped by aspects of global city dynamics. Theoretically grounded and empirically informed, Religion and the Global City advances discussions in the field of urban religion, and establishes future research directions. David Garbin and Anna Strhan bring together a wealth of ethnographically rich and vivid case studies in a diversity of urban settings, in both Global North and Global South contexts. These case studies are drawn from both 'classical' global cities such as London and Paris, and also from large cosmopolitan metropolises - such as Bangalore, Rio de Janeiro, Lagos, Singapore and Hong Kong – which all constitute, in their own terms, powerful sites within the informational, cultural and moral networked economies of contemporary globalization. The chapters explore some of the most pressing issues of our times: globalization and the role of global neo-liberal regimes; urban change and in particular the dramatic urbanization of Global South countries; and religious politics and religious revivalism associated, for instance, with transnational Islam or global Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity.

Book Synopsis Shepherds and Demons by : Hans Austnaberg
Download or read book Shepherds and Demons written by Hans Austnaberg and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Malagasy revival movement, which started in 1894 and operates within the structure of the historical churches, continues to have a profound impact on Protestant church life. This book focuses on exorcism as practised and understood by the so-called shepherds (lay, unsalaried, consecrated church workers) and defines «exorcism» as the expulsion of demons and prayer with the laying on of hands. This study, with Malagasy actors at its centre, argues that exorcism constitutes a synthesis between the biblical message and the traditional Malagasy culture. The shepherds, who vehemently oppose traditional religion, understand exorcism as a practice appropriate for people with a wide variety of problems, and they assert that the purpose of exorcism is to create a living faith in Jesus. The shepherds consider the battle with demons absolutely decisive because it concerns nothing less than salvation or condemnation.

Book excerpt: Often perceived as conservative and rigid, Christian churches have oftentimes been barriers to people's claiming their sexuality. Yet, in their response to the crisis posed by AIDS and HIV, churches have also often challenged harmful cultural practices and surmounted that stereotype. Focusing on sexual and reproductive health rights, especially in African settings, this book seeks to identify and cultivate the positive - indeed liberating - role that churches must play. Bringing the power of religion to bear on the social and religious attitudes that lead to silence, stigma, repression, and even gender violence, the book critically appraises and reappropriates received biblical, pastoral, and theological sources to offer a new vision to those persons most often denied their rights, including women, the young, sexual minorities, and the disabled. Published by the World Council of Churches, the Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiatives and Advocacy (EHAIA) series has proven to be a theological and pastoral wellspring for churches in Africa and beyond. This volume will enlighten and inform church leaders and pastoral caregivers everywhere on how the churches can enable all people to enjoy abundant life.
