Book excerpt: The purpose of writing this book is to suggest some improved estimators using auxiliary information in sampling schemes like simple random sampling, systematic sampling and stratified random sampling. This volume is a collection of five papers, written by nine co-authors (listed in the order of the papers): Rajesh Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Manoj Kr. Chaudhary, Cem Kadilar, Prayas Sharma, Florentin Smarandache, Anil Prajapati, Hemant Verma, and Viplav Kr. Singh. In first paper dual to ratio-cum-product estimator is suggested and its properties are studied. In second paper an exponential ratio-product type estimator in stratified random sampling is proposed and its properties are studied under second order approximation. In third paper some estimators are proposed in two-phase sampling and their properties are studied in the presence of non-response. In fourth chapter a family of median based estimator is proposed in simple random sampling. In fifth paper some difference type estimators are suggested in simple random sampling and stratified random sampling and their properties are studied in presence of measurement error.

Book excerpt: This article describes the problem of estimation of finite population mean in two-phase stratified random sampling. Using information on two auxiliary variables, a class of product to regression chain type estimators has been proposed and its characteristic is discussed. The unbiased version of the proposed class of estimators has been constructed and the optimality condition for the proposed class of estimators is derived. The efficacy of the proposed methodology has been justified through empirical investigations carried over the data set of natural population as well as the data set of artificially generated population. The survey statistician may be suggested to use it.

Book excerpt: In survey sampling we are often concerned with the estimation of population parameters with the use of auxiliary information, which may be available (or made available by diverting a part of the resources) in one form or the other. If used properly, this information may provide better estimates than those where such information is not used. In this context improved classes of estimators of population mean with the use of auxiliary information, improved ratio and product type of estimators have been developed for estimation of population mean of study variable .The families of estimators of mean have been proposed for various situations of auxiliary characters such as when variance is known and population mean unknown, when variance is unknown and population mean known and neither population mean nor variance is known. Further various classes of improved ratio type estimators and product type estimators have been developed. The large sample properties of the proposed estimators of mean, ratio and product type estimators have been compared with conventional and other estimators through empirical study for different sample sizes.

In this book basically the estimation of population men of the main variable under study has been considered using auxiliary variable, which is highly correlated with the main variable. The use of auxiliary information increases the efficiency of the estimator of the population parameter under consideration. In this book different estimators have been considered for the estimation of population mean and their large sample properties have been discussed in detail.

Book excerpt: This guide to small area estimation aims to help users compile more reliable granular or disaggregated data in cost-effective ways. It explains small area estimation techniques with examples of how the easily accessible R analytical platform can be used to implement them, particularly to estimate indicators on poverty, employment, and health outcomes. The guide is intended for staff of national statistics offices and for other development practitioners. It aims to help them to develop and implement targeted socioeconomic policies to ensure that the vulnerable segments of societies are not left behind, and to monitor progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

Book excerpt: In this paper we have adapted Singh and Shukla (1987) estimator in systematic sampling using auxiliary information in the presence of non-response. The properties of the suggested family have been discussed. Expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the suggested family have been derived. The comparative study of the optimum estimator of the family with ratio, product, dual to ratio and sample mean estimators in systematic sampling under non-response has also been done. One numerical illustration is carried out to verify the theoretical results.

Book excerpt: Survey Sampling Theory and Applications offers a comprehensive overview of survey sampling, including the basics of sampling theory and practice, as well as research-based topics and examples of emerging trends. The text is useful for basic and advanced survey sampling courses. Many other books available for graduate students do not contain material on recent developments in the area of survey sampling. The book covers a wide spectrum of topics on the subject, including repetitive sampling over two occasions with varying probabilities, ranked set sampling, Fays method for balanced repeated replications, mirror-match bootstrap, and controlled sampling procedures. Many topics discussed here are not available in other text books. In each section, theories are illustrated with numerical examples. At the end of each chapter theoretical as well as numerical exercises are given which can help graduate students. Covers a wide spectrum of topics on survey sampling and statistics Serves as an ideal text for graduate students and researchers in survey sampling theory and applications Contains material on recent developments in survey sampling not covered in other books Illustrates theories using numerical examples and exercises

Book excerpt: In this paper, an estimator of finite population variance proposed by Isaki (1983) is studied under the two different situations of random non-response suggested by Tracy and Osahan (1994). A distribution is proposed for the number of sampling units on which information could not be obtained due to random non-response. The estimators for the mean square errors of the proposed strategies are also suggested.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ranked Set Sampling is one of the new areas of study in this region of the world and is a growing subject of research. Recently, researchers have paid attention to the development of the types of sampling; though it was not welcome in the beginning, it has numerous advantages over the classical sampling techniques. Ranked Set Sampling is doubly random and can be used in any survey designs. The Pakistan Journal of Statistics had attracted statisticians and samplers around the world to write up aspects of Ranked Set Sampling. All of the essays in this book have been reviewed by many critics. This volume can be used as a reference book for postgraduate students in economics, social sciences, medical and biological sciences, and statistics. The subject is still a hot topic for MPhil and PhD students for their dissertations.
