Viele Lehrkräfte schreiben dem Schulbuch auch häufig die Rolle des Lehrplans zu. Den Satz „Wir sind mit dem Buch noch nicht durch!“ haben sicherlich schon viele Schüler*innen gehört. Bei dieser großen Bedeutung des Schulbuchs versteht sich wohl von selbst, dass nicht jedes Buch mit Unterrichtsinhalten auch zum Schulbuch geeignet ist und es sorgfältig ausgewählt werden sollte. Doch nicht nur im privaten, sondern auch im schulischen Bereich finden Erklärvideos immer mehr Anklang. Wer sich bereits einige Erklärvideos angesehen hat, dem mag sicherlich aufgefallen sein, dass in den letzten Jahren nicht nur die Anzahl von Erklärvideos deutlich zunahm, sondern auch die Bedeutung jener multimedialen Inhalte für die Schule gestiegen ist. Eine im Jahr 2019 durchgeführte Studie zur Nutzung von YouTube unter Jugendlichen zwischen zwölf und 19 Jahren ergab, dass 47 Prozent der 520 befragten Schüler*innen YouTube als wichtig oder auch sehr wichtig für die Schule halten.

Data from classroom video, teacher interviews and student artifacts were used to develop and validate a set of pedagogical principles and explore student learning and teacher change issues.
