Book excerpt: In The Last Days of the Dinosaurs, Riley Black walks readers through what happened in the days, the years, the centuries, and the million years after the impact, tracking the sweeping disruptions that overtook this one spot, and imagining what might have been happening elsewhere on the globe. Life’s losses were sharp and deeply-felt, but the hope carried by the beings that survived sets the stage for the world as we know it now. Picture yourself in the Cretaceous period. It’s a sunny afternoon in the Hell Creek of ancient Montana 66 million years ago. A Triceratops horridus ambles along the edge of the forest. In a matter of hours, everything here will be wiped away. Lush verdure will be replaced with fire. Tyrannosaurus rex will be toppled from their throne, along with every other species of non-avian dinosaur no matter their size, diet, or disposition. They just don’t know it yet. The cause of this disaster was identified decades ago. An asteroid some seven miles across slammed into the Earth, leaving a geologic wound over 50 miles in diameter. In the terrible mass extinction that followed, more than half of known species vanished seemingly overnight. But this worst single day in the history of life on Earth was as critical for us as it was for the dinosaurs, as it allowed for evolutionary opportunities that were closed for the previous 100 million years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years money was real, usually gold or silver, until the Chinese invented paper money to replace real money. They, however, had such a bad time with it, with so many losing everything, time and time again, that it had been outlawed in China for more than a generation before western bankers thought up the idea and convinced King William in 1694 to replace the gold and silver and copper that Englishmen used with their newly printed paper. Thus began a grand experiment that may soon come to an end. The use of paper money, and a debt-based economy (once known as colonialism or imperialism, then capitalism, now called globalization) may soon be grinding down to a halt as nations around the world try to keep up with the United States in their printing of money. Because of derivatives everyone owes everyone else many times more money than the worth of the entire planet. The Kings of this Banker's Kingdom are killing the golden goose of taxpayers who have been supporting their lavish lifestyle for generations. So entitled are these super-rich that they see nothing wrong with goosing the taxpayers of the world for whatever they want. The United States and indeed the nations of the world exist for their benefit. If you understand this then so much of what goes on in the world becomes understandable, but even they are going to grievously suffer in the near future. Everyone is going to be affected! The Book of Revelation, the last book in the Bible, refers to what I believe will be a banking world dictatorship which will require all citizens of earth to carry the world leader's mark (micro-chip or micro-computer) in their right hands or forehead in order to buy or sell anything. It specifically says that this will be required of even a king which in today's parlance would also include prime ministers and presidents. Also Interesting is the mention that this mostly One-World Government will be controlled from Babylon (Iraq). Much will have to happen to bring all this about but events happening right now seem to be leading in that direction. Unfortunately fewer and fewer people seem to believe the truths of the Bible or to heed it's warnings. Even with the discovery in the late 20th Century of an actual code hidden within the ancient Hebrew text and accessible only by computer, a code which seems to contain much of the future existence on this planet, scoffers still tend to look on the Bible as merely history or worse yet, myth. We truly live in interesting times and they are going to get incredibly more interesting very soon. We have already passed the tipping point but only a few see it. Even with the advice in this book your life is going to be greatly different in less than a decade, perhaps by next year. Ignore this book entirely and there is a much higher probability that you will be one of the victims of The Last Days of The Late Great United States.

Book excerpt: From their discovery in the 19th century to the dawn of the Nuclear Age, dinosaurs were seen in popular culture as ambassadors of the geological past and as icons of the “life through time” narrative of evolution. They took on a more foreboding character during the Cold War, serving as a warning to mankind with the advent of the hydrogen bomb. As fears of human extinction escalated during the ecological movement of the 1970s, dinosaurs communicated their metaphorical message of extinction, urging us from our destructive path. Using an eclectic variety of examples, this book outlines the three-fold “evolution” of dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters in pop culture, from their poorly understood beginnings to the 21st century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extinction is the ultimate fate of all biological species - over 99 percent of the species that have ever inhabited the Earth are now extinct. The long fossil record of life provides scientists with crucial information about when species became extinct, which species were most vulnerable to extinction, and what processes may have brought about extinctions in the geological past. Key aspects of extinctions in the history of life are here reviewed by six leading palaeontologists, providing a source text for geology and biology undergraduates as well as more advanced scholars. Topical issues such as the causes of mass extinctions and how animal and plant life has recovered from these cataclysmic events that have shaped biological evolution are dealt with. This helps us to view the biodiversity crisis in a broader context, and shows how large-scale extinctions have had profound and long-lasting effects on the Earth's biosphere.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August of 1994 a paper was published in the scholarly Statistical Science, a journal of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, entitled Equidistant Letter Sequences in the Book of Genesis. The paper was written by three internationally respected Hebrew Scholars and mathematicians, Doron Witztum, Eliyahu Rips, and Yoav Rosenberg. Their assertion is that there is a hidden, underlying text in the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. The following is an excerpt from their abstract of the paper which can be found in the appendix of Michael Drosnins book, The Bible Codes; It has been noted that when the Book of Genesis is written as two-dimensional arrays, equidistant letter sequences spelling words with related meanings often appear in close proximity. Quantitative tools for measuring this phenomenon are developed. Randomization analysis shows that the effect is significant at the level of 0.00002. The arrays are rows with an equal number of letters with all the punctuation and spaces removed. The sequences they are referring to are words like hammer and anvil, table and chair, rain and umbrella. These words go together and are usually found close to one another in the arrays. The tools they are referring to are the tools of mathematics involved. The randomization analysis is two one-hundred thousandths. In other words, it could only be two in one-hundred thousand chances that this occurred by the accidental random sequences of letters in this text. Most scientific experiments only require one in a hundred, 1/100 or .01, as being within validity. It was the occasion of the Bible Codes that it occurred to me that if there was an underlying code, then it would be ludicrous for the surface text to be invalid. Scribes had been specially trained to write the surface text verbatim, without one jot or tittle changed. If there was one mistake they were made to rewrite the whole page again. It was written contiguous, without punctuation or spacing between words. It was considered heretical if anything was changed. Because of this I began to study the surface text very carefully to find any hidden meanings that may have been there.

We are very honored, that you, Governor of the Mugla-State, came here to greet us. We are particularly grateful to you that you offered help and assured us to do everything that we can enjoy two safe weeks in Bodrum, in this wonderful area of your country. I have chosen Bodrum as the place for our NASI because I like this historic region where many cultures meet (e. g. , Oriental and European (Greek, Roman) culture) and where you find numerous places which played a role in ancient science and in early Christianity- I mention Milet (Thales) and Ephesus (Apostle Paulus), both of which are close by. Our NASI will exhibit the most recent developments in high energy heavy ion physics. The meeting is both a school and a conference: A school, because there are very many advanced students, who frequently are themselves already top researchers, attending the lectures of distinguished scientists and leading researchers. It is also a conference because new material, new results of this exciting and wonderful field - our field - high energy heavy ion physics will be presented. It is the topic of hot and dense nuclear matter, which we are focusing on.
