Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This Handbook, frequently referred to as AGRIGA in the pages of its companion volume, entitled 'Encyclopedia of German-American Genealogical Research' is devoted to the primary source materials of German-American genealogical interest to be found in the archives of Germany. Despite its length, it cannot be asserted that the Handbook is complete; many small communal archives and those of most noble estates are not included; the vast archival remains in East Germany are missing entirely. So it is that the volume can be regarded only as a preliminary listing..."--Pref.

This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Germany immigration authority, Clifford Neal Smith spent a number of years ferreting out surrogate passenger information from the periodical literature. In one instance, Mr. Smith transcribed the genealogical contents, published between 1869 and 1877, of Volumes 1 through 9 of Der Deutsche Pioniere, a monthly magazine issued by the Deutsche Pioniereverein (Union of German Pioneers) founded in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Smith provides the following particulars on each German-American pioneer found in that periodical: name, place of origin in Germany, town or county of residence, reference to the original source, and biographical data provided in the original notice. While most of the early entries pertain to Germanic inhabitants of Ohio, later issues of Der Deutsche Pioniere refer to deceased persons living in Kentucky and neighboring states.

It is based on the work of Otto Conrad, which was published in German in 1934. Smith's introduction discusses the method used to gather the information and the varying reasons for German emigration from this area. The passengers are arranged alphabetically, obviating the need for an index. Information found on each emigrant includes full name, occupation, date of departure, and, sometimes, a specific destination in America. In a few cases we learn the name of a passenger's spouse, parent(s), or sibling, and the number of accompanying family members.

Book Synopsis Emigrants from the Former Amt Damme, Oldenburg, (now Niedersachsen), Germany, Mainly to the United States, 1830-1849 by : Clifford Neal Smith
Download or read book Emigrants from the Former Amt Damme, Oldenburg, (now Niedersachsen), Germany, Mainly to the United States, 1830-1849 written by Clifford Neal Smith and published by Genealogical Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clifford Neal Smith originally released this title as German-American Genealogical Research Monographs 12 . The book covers the German townships of Damme, Holdorf, and Neuenkirchen, which are today part of Niedersachsen. Arranged by farming community, it identifies nearly 3,000 persons who emigrated to North America between 1830 and 1849. For the most part, Smith has transcribed each individual's name (sometimes only a surname), the number of persons traveling with that passenger, date of departure, and, sometimes, names of family members, occupation, and destination. A surname index at the back of the work makes finding persons relatively simple. (Much of the information in this volume was originally published in an article prepared from official files.)
