Book Synopsis Jesus, Continued... by : J.D. Greear
Download or read book Jesus, Continued... written by J.D. Greear and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2014-11-04 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encounter the dynamic presence of God as you learn from pastor and author J. D. Greear how to more fully experience the Holy Spirit within you. Jesus gave his disciples the audacious promise that the Spirit he would send to live inside them would be even better than if he himself remained beside them. Yet how many of us consider our connection to the Holy Spirit so strong that we would call his presence in us better than Jesus himself walking by our side? J. D. Greear was the pastor of a rapidly growing church who still felt like he didn't know how to relate to God personally. Though he knew a lot about God, he wasn't as sure about how to walk with God. Furthermore, he felt overwhelmed by the size of the mission Jesus had left for his church. In a world of so much need, what difference could he possibly make? Learning how God dwells in us and empowers us in the Holy Spirit redefined his life and ministry. Ministry became less about working for God and more about letting God work through him. Drudgery was replaced by delight; helplessness was replaced by empowerment. In Jesus, Continued... Greear explores--in clear and practical language--questions such as: What does it mean to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit? How can we tell when the Spirit is speaking to us? What do you do when God feels absent? If you are longing to know God in a vibrant way, Jesus, Continued... has good news for you: That's exactly what God wants for you too. His Spirit stands ready to guide you, empower you, and use you.

Download or read book Ear of the Spirit written by J. C. Beaver and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rev. 2:7 'He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the Churches.' He says it to each of the seven churches giving them warning as to what will happen if they don't listen. Later in the same book, he says something that opened my understanding to the reason people don't hear. He says, 'If any man have an ear, let him hear.' This indicates to me, the Spirit will no longer be speaking to people because He is no longer in the world. Those left behind will only be able to hear with the natural ear what is going on around them. I would warn the church to listen NOW while there is still time to hear the Spirit and obey the Lord. There is coming a time when the Spirit will no longer speak to the hearts of man, for judgment will be falling on the world who would not listen. It will be a time of famine of the Word. I pray the church wake up now. Don't be like the five virgins, who feel asleep with no oil in their lamps and woke up left behind. Now is the day of salvation, now is the day to listen with the ear of the Spirit and have a Holy Spirit encounter that will change your life. You can't change yourself, you can only die to the self life and grow in the God life the savior provided for you at the cross. Living in the Last Days is not a popular phrase, but it is what is happening. We have no leadership, and preachers are preaching to itching ears and tickling ears. Hearts are cold or very lukewarm with no attention span to help one another to grow. Evil is growing and good people are doing nothing because they are too busy, to overworked, to far asleep. 666 is now here and is going to be required by government and good people are doing nothing because they don't care, don't see what it happening right in front of them. The evil that is in the middle east will be in American unless people wake up and listen with the ear of the Spirit and do it soon.
Book Synopsis The Holy Spirit and Christian Experience by : Simeon Zahl
Download or read book The Holy Spirit and Christian Experience written by Simeon Zahl and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-11 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Holy Spirit and Christian Experience, Simeon Zahl presents a fresh vision for Christian theology that foregrounds the relationship between theological ideas and the experiences of Christians. He argues that theology is always operating in a vibrant landscape of feeling and desiring, and shows that contemporary theology has often operated in problematic isolation from these experiential dynamics. He then argues that a theologically serious doctrine of the Holy Spirit not only authorizes but requires attention to Christian experience. Against this background, Zahl outlines a new methodological approach to Christian theology that attends to the emotional and experiential power of theological ideas. This methodology draws on recent interdisciplinary work on affect and emotion, which has shown that affects are powerful motivating realities that saturate all dimensions of human thinking and acting. In the process, Zahl also explains why contemporary theology has often been ambivalent about subjective experience, and demonstrates that current discourse about God's activity in the world is often artificially abstracted from experience and embodiment. At the heart of the book, Zahl proposes a new account of the theology of grace from this experiential and pneumatological perspective. Focusing on the work of the Holy Spirit in salvation and sanctification, he retrieves insights from Augustine, Luther, and Philip Melanchthon to present an affective and Augustinian vision of salvation as a pedagogy of desire. In articulating this vision, Zahl engages critically with recent emphasis on participation and theosis in Christian soteriology, and charts a new path forward for Protestant theology in a landscape hitherto dominated by the theological visions of Barth and Aquinas.

Book excerpt: USA TODAY, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY AND ECPA BESTSELLER • The internationally recognized Bible teacher and daughter of Billy Graham combines unique biblical insights and her own personal stories to show how the Holy Spirit guides us in our decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times, enriching our daily lives. In Jesus in Me, Anne Graham Lotz draws on her rich biblical knowledge as well as her personal journey—including her recent cancer diagnosis—to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling. He is a Person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times. In this seminal teaching, she explores seven key aspects of the Holy Spirit that will revolutionize how you understand and relate to this vital third Person in the Trinity. As Anne writes, “One of my deepest, richest joys has been discovering by experience who the Holy Spirit is in every step of my life’s journey. Each name that He has been given—Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby—reveals another aspect of His beautiful character and has provoked in me a deep love for the One who is my constant Companion . . . Jesus in me.” Discover how to better love and rely on the person of the Holy Spirit—and embrace how much He loves you through His presence, power, and provision in our daily lives. Praise for Jesus in Me “With plentiful biblical references, Lotz encourages those who already rely on Jesus to step into a purpose-filled life led by the Holy’s Spirit’s guidance. Christians who desire to live a life of greater purpose to glorify God will be awed by Lotz’s impassioned exploration of the role of the Holy Spirit in her life.”—Publishers Weekly
