Book excerpt: Fundamental edge electroreflectance spectra of cadmium sulfide (CdS) and zinc oxide (ZnO) single crystals were measured at room temperature using the electrolyte technique. Measurements were made with the electric vector of the incident light both parallel and perpendicular to the hexagonal axis of the crystals. The spectra were interpreted in terms of the energy band structure for direct transitions at the center of the Brillouin zone for the wurtzite structures. A Kramers-Kronig analysis was used to obtain the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant for CdS from the electroreflectance data and the refractive index of the material. (Author).

Book excerpt: Fundamental edge electroreflectance spectra of ion-implanted zinc oxide (ZnO) single crystals were measured at room temperature using the electrolyte technique. Measurements were made with the electric vector of the incident light both parallel and perpendicular to the hexagonal axis of the crystals. Quantitive results were obtained for the fundamental edge transition. The effects on the electroreflectance spectra due to electrochemical reactions and different band bending conditions were examined. Since the ion-implantation process produced deep-centered impurities, the electroreflectance spectra did not exhibit impurity associated transitions. (Author).

Book Synopsis Comparison of Ultraviolet Reflectivity and Characteristic Electron Energy Loss Measurements of ZnO and CdS Single Crystals by : Robert Joseph Almassy
Download or read book Comparison of Ultraviolet Reflectivity and Characteristic Electron Energy Loss Measurements of ZnO and CdS Single Crystals written by Robert Joseph Almassy and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was made to determine the nonpolarized ultraviolet reflectivity and characteristic electron energy loss spectra for ZnO and CdS and to correlate these data using a Kramers-Kronig dispersion relation. Reflectivity measurements were made using a 1-m Jarrell-Ash monochromator with low pressure capillary discharge source. Ruthemann-Lang type energy loss measurements were made using 10 keV transmitted electrons. All samples were single crystal platelets grown by the vapor phase technique. Correlation was made using a Fortran IV code developed for the IBM 7090 system. Repeatable spectra were obtained by both techniques, and preliminary correlation indicated good agreement between data. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1963 the Research Materials Information Center has been answering inquiries on the availability, preparation, and properties of ultrapure inorganic research specimens. It has been possible to do this with reasonable efficiency by searching an automated coded microfilm collection of the report and open literature and of data sheets and question naires provided by commercial and research producers of pure materials. With the growth of the collection to over 70,000 documents and the increase in the demand for more general background information, it has been necessary to compile bibliographies on an increasing variety of subjects. These have been used as indexes to the microfilmed documents for more efficient searching, and in the past distributed in response to individual requests. However, their size and number no longer permit so casual and uneconomic a method of distribution. The "ORNL Solid State Physics Literature Guides" is a practical alternative. Organization The subject organization of the bibliography is given by the Table of Contents. Each section is preceded by a collection of reviews, bibliographies, and "general" papers (i.e., those dealing with methods or equipment rather than single materials, or with such a wide variety of materials that no subsection was appropriate). Coverage is generally from 1960 to mid-1970. Emphasis is on inorganic materials.
Book Synopsis Optical Properties of Cdse and Zno Single Crystals by : John Sherman DeWitt
Download or read book Optical Properties of Cdse and Zno Single Crystals written by John Sherman DeWitt and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The optical properties of CdSe and ZnO single crystals have been determined from reflectivity measurements in the range of photon energies 2.5 - 14 electron volts. The measurements were made in a one meter vacuum monochromator using a hydrogen emission source. The crystals were grown from the vapor phase and consisted of platelets (CdSe) and bulk prisms (ZnO). The optical constants, n and k, and the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant were derived from the reflectivity measurements by a Kramers-Kronig analysis. The observed spectrum of CdSe is in good agreement with previously reported results of Cardona. The observed ZnO spectrum corressponds with similar results reported for other II-VI wurtzite semiconductors. The peaks have been interpreted as direct interband transitions in terms of an analogous zinc-blende energy band structure. (Author).
Book Synopsis Copper Zinc Tin Sulfide-Based Thin-Film Solar Cells by : Kentaro Ito

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with an overview and historical background of Copper Zinc Tin Sulphide (CZTS) technology, subsequent chapters cover properties of CZTS thin films, different preparation methods of CZTS thin films, a comparative study of CZTS and CIGS solar cell, computational approach, and future applications of CZTS thin film solar modules to both ground-mount and rooftop installation. The semiconducting compound (CZTS) is made up earth-abundant, low-cost and non-toxic elements, which make it an ideal candidate to replace Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) and CdTe solar cells which face material scarcity and toxicity issues. The device performance of CZTS-based thin film solar cells has been steadily improving over the past 20 years, and they have now reached near commercial efficiency levels (10%). These achievements prove that CZTS-based solar cells have the potential to be used for large-scale deployment of photovoltaics. With contributions from leading researchers from academia and industry, many of these authors have contributed to the improvement of its efficiency, and have rich experience in preparing a variety of semiconducting thin films for solar cells.

Abstract: As a wide band gap semiconductor, Zinc Oxide (ZnO) has recently attracted considerable attention due to its wide applicability. Transition metal (TM) doped ZnO is one of the most intensive research field in the last decade because of its possible application in spintronics devices. The Co-implanted ZnO has been considered as one of the most promising candidate in the field of diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS). In this study, the magnetic and structural properties of Co-implanted ZnO single crystal were investigated. ZnO single crystals were implanted with 100 keV-Co ions at 300K with a fluence of 1014cm-2and subsequently annealed at 750oC and 900oC respectively. The samples were studied by secondary ion mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The as-implanted sample seemed to be phase pure while the spinel secondary phase ZnCo2O4 was present in 750oC and 900oC samples showed trace ofCo3O4, Zn0.52Co2.48O4 and metallic Co cluster. All the samples exhibited ferromagnetism at room temperature in low field region, and the magnetic moment was found to decrease and increase after the heat treatment. In high field region, typical paramagnetism was the dominating magnetic property. More than one ferromagnetic mechanism is involved to explain the experimental results. This book was released on 1965 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-irradiation of CdS doped single crystals with quenching wavelengths produces at room temperature, a sharp peak of photocurrent. Electrons are freed from traps between 01,0 and 1,65 ev below the conduction band and holes from traps between 0,70 and 1,65 ev above the valence band. Some of the levels and relative densities of electrons have been determined. Thermal conductivity of polycristalline and rolled Bi have been compared from 80 to 300K. (Author).
