Les modèles en temps thermique et temps hydrique permettent de prédire la phénologie de germination sur le terrain en fonction des conditions climatiques dans l’environnement de la graine dépassant des valeurs seuil de température et de potentiel hydrique de base, Tb et Ψb (i.e. respectivement la température minimale et le potentiel hydrique minimum permettant la germination).Dans ce travail de thèse, il est donc question d’étudier l’écophysiologie de la germination à l’aide de ces modèles à deux échelles taxonomiques : (i) celle des plantes à graines et (ii) à l’échelle du genre Silene de la région PACA. Dans les deux cas le but est d’évaluer les contraintes évolutives des traits de réponse au climat de la germination ainsi que leurs liens avec les contraintes morphologiques et phénologiques des plantesLes résultats de cette thèse montrent un fort signal phylogénétique des traits de germination de la température de base et une plus grande labilité pour le potentiel hydrique de base quelle que soit l’échelle taxonomique considérée. En revanche, les liens avec les traits des plantes, tels que la masse des graines, sont plus variables et dépendent à la fois de l’origine biogéographique et de la longévité des espèces.

They can germinate, grow and reproduce successfully in saline areas which would cause the death of regular plants. Most halophytic species are found in salt marsh systems along seashores or around landlocked inland lakes and flat plains with high evaporation. The halophytes play very significant role in the saline areas specially in the coast by overcoming the salinity in different ways, viz. with regulating mechanisms in which excess salts are excreted and with out regulating mechanism, which may include succulents or cumulative types. Besides that they protect coast from erosion and cyclones, provide feeding ground and nursery for fish, shrimps and birds. Halophytes get increasing attention today because of the steady increase of the salinity in irrigation systems in the arid and semi-arid regions where the increasing population reaches the limits of freshwater availability. In many countries, halophytes have been successfully grown on saline wasteland to provide animal fodder and have the potential for rehabilitation and even reclamation of these sites. The value of certain salt-tolerant grass species has been recognized by their incorporation in pasture improvement programs in many salt affected regions throughout the world. There have been recent advances in selecting species with high biomass and protein levels in combination with their ability to survive a wide range of environmental conditions, including salinity.

Making varied use of estuarine ecosystems is not only possible, but also essential because they are the meeting point between terrestrial and marine life.
