Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British Nuclear Medicine Society celebrates its 50th Anniversary with this booklet, which reflects the research of many of the pioneers in the use of radionuclides for the diagnosis and therapy of human disease. Since 1949 there have been remarkable advances in radionuclide techniques and imaging equipment: from the first devices “home-made” in the many physics departments throughout the UK, to the sophisticated multimodality imagers now in everyday use in Nuclear Medicine. The BNMS has been instrumental in promoting the use of radionuclide techniques in the investigation of pathology by supporting and providing education, research and guidelines on the optimum use of radiation to help patients. The future of Nuclear Medicine is bright, thanks to improved imaging resolution, new radiopharmaceuticals, and new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and procedures.
Book Synopsis Standards for Digital Computers Used in Non-safety Nuclear Power Plant Applications by :
Download or read book Standards for Digital Computers Used in Non-safety Nuclear Power Plant Applications written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are currently a number of efforts to develop standards which would apply to digital computers used in nuclear power plants for functions other than those directly involving plant protection (for example, ANS: 4.3.3 Subworking Group in the U.S., IEC 45A/WGA1 Subcommittee in Europe). The impetus for this activity is discussed and generally attributed to the realization that nonsafety systems computers may affect the assumptions used as the design bases for safety systems, the sizable economic loss which can result from the failure of a critical computer application, and the lingering concern about the misapplication of a still-new technology. At the same time, it is pointed out that these standards may create additional obstacles for the use of this new technology which are not present in the application of more conventional instrumentation and control equipment. Much of the U.S. effort has been directed toward the problem of validation of computer systems in which the potential exists for unplanned interactions between various functions in a multiprogram environment, using common hardware in a time-sharing mode. The goal is to develop procedures for the specification, development implementation, and documentation of testable, modular systems which, in the absence of proven quantitative techniques for assessing software reliability, are felt to provide reasonable assurance that the computer system will function as planned.

Nuclear Power Engineering Committee and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Additional computer specific requirements to supplement the criteria and requirements of IEEE Std 603-1998 are specified. Within the context of this standard, the term computer is a system that includes computer hardware, software, firmware, and interfaces. The criteria contained herein, in conjunction with criteria in IEEE Std 603-1998, establish minimum functional and design requirements for computers used as components of a safety system.

Download or read book Digital Instrumentation and Control Systems in Nuclear Power Plants written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-04-18 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nuclear industry and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) have been working for several years on the development of an adequate process to guide the replacement of aging analog monitoring and control instrumentation in nuclear power plants with modern digital instrumentation without introducing off-setting safety problems. This book identifies criteria for the USNRC's review and acceptance of digital applications in nuclear power plants. It focuses on eight areas: software quality assurance, common-mode software failure potential, systems aspects of digital instrumentation and control technology, human factors and human-machine interfaces, safety and reliability assessment methods, dedication of commercial off-the-shelf hardware and software, the case-by-case licensing process, and the adequacy of technical infrastructure.
