Book Synopsis Changing Landscape of Defense Innovation by : Paul Bracken
Download or read book Changing Landscape of Defense Innovation written by Paul Bracken and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a rapidly evolving business environment, many successful companies have transformed themselves by reexamining their core missions and competencies and exploiting innovation in nontraditional ways. Applying this business model to national defense, the innovation landscape can be said to have three regions: products (airplanes, tanks, ships), processes (integrated systems), and retrofits of legacy systems. While the DoD is not a commercial enterprise, nor can it change its critical missions as a private firm might do, it, too, operates in a dynamic environment and should be in a continual process of transformation to adjust to and exploit change. Achieving the right balance of effort in these three regions will pay handsome dividends. Diagrams.
Book Synopsis New Military Framework for NATO by : Hans Binnendijk
Download or read book New Military Framework for NATO written by Hans Binnendijk and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proposes a new and comprehensive military framework to help guide NATO improvements in the years ahead. This framework envisions a pyramid-like structure of future NATO forces and capabilities in 5 areas: a new NATO Special Operations Force, the NATO Response Force, high-readiness combat forces, stabilization and reconstruction forces, and assets for defense sector development. The U.S. would provide 1/3 of the forces, and Europe would be responsible for the other 2/3. If NATO succeeds in creating these forces for power projection and expeditionary missions, it will possess a broad portfolio of assets for operations against such threats as terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and cross-border aggression.

Download or read book Strategic Horizons written by Steven Metz and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Year ago the Chief of Staff of the Army initiated the Army After Next Project (AANP) as a means of stimulating constructive thinking about the Army's future throughout the service. AANP has quickly developed into a primary vehicle for long-range planning. Under the leadership of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the AANP has conducted an ambitious program of studies, symposia and workshops, culminating in a Winter War Game and Senior Seminar held at Carlisle, January 27-February 6, 1997. A key line of initial inquiry for us has been to forecast the nature of the future security environment in which the Army will operate. That is the task Dr. Steven Metz set for himself in this monograph. In the pages that follow he propounds "currents of change" that will determine the future and sketches a series of plausible future security systems. Each system is characterized by the forms of conflict that will dominate it, the major strategic issues the United States might face, and the resulting military implications. While Dr. Metz's analysis leads to observations certain to be controversial, he illustrates quite clearly the primacy that environmental context will have in shaping our national security outlook and military strategy. Thus, Dr. Metz's observations on trends and systems warrant careful consideration as national policymakers and the Army's leaders build the military force of the future.

Autonomous Horizons: The Way Forward identifies issues and makes recommendations for the Air Force to take full advantage of this transformational technology.
Book Synopsis Strategy for an Army Center for Network Science, Technology, and Experimentation by : National Research Council
Download or read book Strategy for an Army Center for Network Science, Technology, and Experimentation written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-09-27 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. military has committed to a strategy of network-centric warfare. As a result, the Army has become increasingly interested in the critical role of network science. To a significant extent, this interest was stimulated by an earlier NRC report, Network Science. To build on that book, the Army asked the NRC to conduct a study to define advanced operating models and architectures for future Army laboratories and centers focused on network science, technologies, and experimentation (NSTE). The challenges resulting from base realignment and closure (BRAC) relocations of Army research, development, and engineering resourcesâ€"as they affected the NSTE programâ€"were also to be a focus of the study. This book provides a discussion of what NSTE is needed by the Army; an examination of the NSTE currently carried out by the Army; an assessment of needed infrastructure resources for Army NSTE; and an analysis of goals, models, and alternatives for an NSTE center.

Book Synopsis Technology and National Security by : James Kadtke
Download or read book Technology and National Security written by James Kadtke and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2018-03-29 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present arguments about the role that technology and science will play within the international scene and globalization corridor as a way to develop a national security strategy for years to come. Part of the discussion observes the past, present, and future of technology innovation within global governments, including the sharing of data, artificial intelligence (AI), military policy, defense strategies, and more. For instance, globalization of science and technology, emerging and unpredictable threats (both manmade and natural), conventional and emerging weapons of mass destruction, and an inversion of technology flow from the private to public sectors all present challenges to our national security. Many countries are now dramatically increasing their investments in science, technology, and commercialization, particularly in Asia, and including many nontraditional players such as Vietnam and Singapore. From a grand strategic perspective, one might observe that in the decades to come, in a world dominated by pervasive advanced technologies, the countries that are most able to create, acquire, and utilize these disruptive technologies will lead the world. This technological capacity will be one of, if not the, most important global resources.Technological capacity will become the new oil.
