Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corporate Planning and LAN: Information Systems as Forums provides information pertinent to the Forum Information System (FIS), a conceptual basis for all corporate planning. This book presents an information system which, by means of LAN, organizational development style prototyping, and organizational learning utilization, can open communications among managers, executives, owners, and employees in a corporate setting. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the four phases to the eventual use of the FIS in a corporate setting. This text then explores FIS as part of a paradigm shift in corporate information systems, which began with the introduction of the use of computers. Other chapters consider the actual creation of the LAN-based FIS, the technical details of implementation, the programming, and the hardware configuration. This book discusses as well the organizational learning that occurs when using the system. This book is a valuable resource for executives, managers, employees, and corporate decision makers.

Download or read book Macedonia and Greece written by John Shea and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-03-18 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the breakup of the former Yugoslavia and a pending NATO membership bid, an old conflict between Greece and Macedonia has taken on added significance for the international community. Greece has vehemently argued, particularly in the West, that the name Macedonia was in fact Greek and that its use by this new nation in the Balkans portended Macedonia’s expansionist ambitions. The Macedonians bitterly disputed this, noting that Alexander the Great was a Macedonian, and adducing many other fascinating and rational arguments. Tensions were said to have been reduced by an interim agreement between the two countries, but the attempted assassination of Macedonian president Kiro Gligorov in October 1995 has again heightened hostility in the area. The genesis of the conflict is detailed here, as well as the modern day events that have led many observers to believe that the area is a flashpoint for a major war, greater than that in Bosnia.

Book Synopsis Designing and Implementing HR Management Systems in Family Businesses by : Gnan, Luca
Download or read book Designing and Implementing HR Management Systems in Family Businesses written by Gnan, Luca and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human resource management (HRM) systems are an under-researched area in family business studies even though they arguably play an important role. To exploit their entrepreneurial orientation and achieve their goals, family firms must be willing to adopt a specific configuration of the organizational variables to succeed in the competitive environment of today. Designing and Implementing HR Management Systems in Family Businesses is a pivotal reference source that focuses on HRM in family businesses aiming at clarifying what HRM topics are relevant in family firms given their distinctive features, what the role of HR choices in family firms is, and how they differ in these organizations. While highlighting topics such as quality of work, generational workforce, and leadership management, this publication explores the relationship between HRM systems and the organization as well as why certain theories would be more dominant for family firms. This book is ideally designed for family businesses, managers, executives, entrepreneurs, business professionals, academicians, students, and researchers.

Book Synopsis Making Sense of Construction Improvement by : Stuart Green
Download or read book Making Sense of Construction Improvement written by Stuart Green and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-15 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making Sense of Construction Improvement provides a critical evaluation of the construction improvement debate from the end of the Second World War through to the modern era. The book offers unique insights into the way the UK construction sector is continuously shaped and re-shaped in accordance with changes in the prevailing political economy. This second edition brings the book up to date by including coverage of key trends from 2010–2023. The book has been substantially revised and reworked to include new material relating to the ‘age of austerity’ and the subsequent period of political uncertainty initiated by the Brexit referendum. Changes in the political economy are positioned alongside the rise of the sustainability agenda and the advent of ‘zero carbon’. Particular attention is paid to the ongoing skills crisis and the over-hyped advocacy of modern methods of construction (MMC) as the latest supposed panacea of industry improvement. Coverage includes the Farmer (2016) report Modernise or Die and the Construction Playbook (HM Government, 2020). However, perhaps the most important addition is a focus on the Grenfell Disaster (2017) and the subsequent revelations from the public enquiry. Further intermediate milestones include Building a Safer Future (Hackitt, 2018) and the Construction Sector Deal (HM Government, 2018). The emerging consensus points towards a systemic failure involving not only the construction sector but also the entire system of regulation and compliance. Tracing the failings back over time and scrutinising the role played by previous generations of policymakers, Stuart Green ultimately argues that Grenfell was a disaster entirely foretold. The insightful and critical analysis of the industry contained within these pages is essential and timely reading for anyone who wants to understand how the construction sector arrived at where it is today, and with that knowledge, give further thought to where it might go next.

Book Synopsis Intelligent Buildings: An Introduction by : Derek Clements-Croome
Download or read book Intelligent Buildings: An Introduction written by Derek Clements-Croome and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the concept of Intelligent Buildings to the wider construction community. Edited by the Father of Intelligent Buildings, Derek Clements-Croome, the book explains that intelligent buildings should be sustainable, healthy, technologically aware, meet the needs of occupants and business, and should be flexible and adaptable to deal with change. This means the processes of planning, design, construction, commissioning and facilities management including post-occupancy evaluation are all important. Buildings comprise many systems devised by many people and yet the relationship between buildings and people can only work satisfactorily if there is an integrated team with a holistic vision.
Book Synopsis Innovation, Strategy and Risk in Construction by : Martin Loosemore
Download or read book Innovation, Strategy and Risk in Construction written by Martin Loosemore and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovation, Strategy and Risk in Construction integrates insights from business and government leaders with contemporary research, to help built environment professionals turn serendipity to their own advantage by building greater innovative and adaptive capacity into their operations. Accessible and full of practical examples, the book argues that traditional business strategies which seek to systematise innovation and eliminate uncertainty need to be balanced with more flexible approaches which acknowledge and harness uncertainty. The missing key to innovation, it is argued, is to turn serendipity into capability. The author proposes a simple model which allows managers to tap into the increasingly dynamic and interconnected nature of the construction industry. Innovation does not occur in isolation within individual firms, but through collaboration. Each stakeholder in the construction industry has a responsibility to drive innovation, and this book will be key reading for consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and clients, as well as policy makers and all serious students of construction management.
Download or read book No Waste written by Uly Ma and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability is a critical issue for the construction industry. In the short term, sustainability is often seen as a 'must do' item. In the longer term, all contractors will be seeing it as a source of competitive advantage. Public sector construction, infrastructure and other large projects such as the Thames Gateway and the Olympics in 2012 are all being driven down this route by pressure from Government. Uly Ma's No Waste is an extremely practical guide to managing sustainability in construction that draws on input from all the related stakeholders: the construction industry itself, the clients, designers and architects and the trades. The book explores how the industry can transform itself from business as before to business as it should be, from the micro level of good site practices to setting the right policies that drives a company onwards. The text covers the management of sustainability and the accompanying CD ROM includes a wealth of material such as tool kits, templates and activities that can be shared throughout the organisation and used for team meetings, communication and training.
Book Synopsis The Future of NATO Expansion by : Zoltan Barany
Download or read book The Future of NATO Expansion written by Zoltan Barany and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-07-21 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1999 three East-Central European states (Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic) gained membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Professor Barany argues that, once it began, the Alliance should continue the enlargement process. Nevertheless he maintains that only states that satisfy NATO's membership criteria should be allowed to join. Through an extensive analysis of four countries, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia who, at the time of the book's original publication in 2003 were NATO aspirants, Barany demonstrates that they were in several important respects unprepared for membership and that there was no pressing reason for NATO's haste. Barany argues that while NATO should be clear that its doors remain open to qualified candidates, the Alliance should hold off further expansion until prospective members will become assets rather than liabilities.
