Book excerpt: “When it comes to the forensic sciences, nobody can touch Cornwell.” —New York Times Book Review [PLEASE BOX:] CHAOS From the Ancient Greek (χάος or kháos) A vast chasm or void. Anarchy. The science of unpredictability. On a late summer evening in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her investigative partner, Pete Marino, respond to a call about a dead bicyclist near the Kennedy School of Government. It appears that a young woman has been attacked with almost superhuman force. Even before Scarpetta’s headquarters has been officially notified about the case, Marino and Scarpetta’s FBI agent husband, Benton Wesley, receive suspicious calls, allegedly from someone at Interpol. But it makes no sense. Why would the elite international police agency know about the case or be interested? It soon becomes apparent that an onslaught of harassment might be the work of an anonymous cyberbully named Tailend Charlie, who has been sending cryptic communications to Scarpetta for over a week. Even Lucy, her brilliant tech-savvy niece, can’t trace who it is or how this person could have access to intimate information. When a second death shocks Scarpetta to her core, it becomes apparent she and those close to her are confronted with something far bigger and more dangerous than they’d ever imagined.

Book Synopsis The Dead Universe Theory by : J. Almeida
Download or read book The Dead Universe Theory written by J. Almeida and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-07-31 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dead Universe Theory explores a provocative concept: viewing our observable universe as a remnant of a once vibrant cosmos. In this theory, light emerges as an anomaly, born from the nuclear fusion processes within stars and galaxies. This hypothesis challenges conventional perspectives on cosmic origins, proposing that what we perceive as the vast expanse of the universe is, in fact, a mere echo of its ancient glory. Author J. Almeida's exploration takes readers on an intriguing journey from the genesis of our universe to its current state. Through meticulous examination, the book presents compelling arguments that reshape our understanding of cosmic evolution. It confronts unresolved questions in cosmology, offering new insights into the enigmatic nature of existence. This innovative theory demands rigorous scientific scrutiny and validation. Its implications extend far beyond astrophysics, touching fundamental aspects of human existence and perception. By questioning established paradigms, The Dead Universe Theory invites readers to contemplate the mysteries of the cosmos and the profound implications of our place within it.
Book Synopsis Creation and Chaos by : JoAnn Scurlock
Download or read book Creation and Chaos written by JoAnn Scurlock and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hermann Gunkel was a scholar in the generation of the origins of Assyriology, the spectacular discovery by George Smith of fragments of the “Chaldean Genesis,” and the Babel-Bibel debate. Gunkel’s thesis, inspired by materials supplied to him by the Assyriologist Heinrich Zimmern, was to take the Chaoskampf motif of Revelation as an event that would not only occur at the end of the world but had already happened at the beginning, before Creation. In other words, in this theory, one imagines God in Genesis 1 as first having battled Rahab, Leviathan, and Yam (the forces of Chaos) in a grand battle, and only then beginning to create. The problem with Gunkel’s theory is that it did not simply identify common elements in the mythologies of the ancient Near East but imposed upon them a structure dictating the relationships between the elements, a structure that was based on inadequate knowledge and a forced interpretation of his sources. On the other hand, one is not entitled to insist that there was no cultural conversation among peoples who spent the better part of several millennia trading with, fighting, and conquering one another. Creation and Chaos attempts to address some of these issues. The contributions are organized into five sections that address various aspects of the issues raised by Gunekl’s theories.
