Book Synopsis Neutrino Oscillations: Present Status And Future Plans by : Jennifer A Thomas
Download or read book Neutrino Oscillations: Present Status And Future Plans written by Jennifer A Thomas and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008-03-04 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the status of a very exciting field — neutrino oscillations — at a very important time. The fact that neutrinos have mass has only been proved in the last few years and the acceptance of that fact has opened up a whole new area of study to understand the fundamental parameters of the mixing matrix. The book summarizes the results from all the experiments which have played a role in the measurement of neutrino oscillations and briefly describes the scope of some new planned experiments. Contributions include a theoretical introduction by Stephen Parke from FNAL, as well as articles from all the major experimental groups who have been pivotal in uncovering the nature of the neutrino mass.

Book Synopsis Experimental Studies of Neutrino Oscillations by : Takaaki Kajita
Download or read book Experimental Studies of Neutrino Oscillations written by Takaaki Kajita and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Takaaki Kajita and Arthur McDonald have been jointly awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics "for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass". Takaaki Kajita is a Japanese physicist who is well known for neutrino experiments at the Kamiokande and the even more outsized Super-Kamiokande. This volume of collected works of Kajita on neutrino oscillations provides a good glimpse into the rise of Asian research in the frontiers of neutrino physics. Japan is now a major force in the study of the three families of neutrinos. Much remains to be done to clarify the Dirac vs. Majorana nature of the neutrino, and the cosmological implications of the neutrino. The collected works of Kajita and his Super-Kamiokande group will leave an indelible footprint in the history of big and better science. Book Synopsis Search for Sterile Neutrinos with the MINOS Long-Baseline Experiment by : Ashley Michael Timmons
Download or read book Search for Sterile Neutrinos with the MINOS Long-Baseline Experiment written by Ashley Michael Timmons and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-10 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis highlights data from MINOS, a long-baseline accelerator neutrino experiment, and details one of the most sensitive searches for the sterile neutrino ever made. Further, it presents a new analysis paradigm to enable this measurement and a comprehensive study of the myriad systematic uncertainties involved in a search for a few-percent effect, while also rigorously investigating the statistical interpretation of the findings in the context of a sterile neutrino model. Among the scientific community, this analysis was quickly recognized as a foundational measurement in light of which all previous evidence for the sterile neutrino must now be (re)interpreted. The existence of sterile neutrinos has long been one of the key questions in the field. Not only are they a central component in many theories of new physics, but a number of past experiments have yielded results consistent with their existence. Nonetheless, they remain controversial: the interpretation of the data showing evidence for these sterile neutrinos is hotly debated.
Book Synopsis State Of The Art Of Neutrino Physics, The: A Tutorial For Graduate Students And Young Researchers by : Antonio Ereditato
Download or read book State Of The Art Of Neutrino Physics, The: A Tutorial For Graduate Students And Young Researchers written by Antonio Ereditato and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The neutrino is the most fascinating elementary particle due to its elusive nature and outstanding properties that have attracted the interest of generations of physicists since 1930, when it was first postulated by Wolfgang Pauli as a 'desperate remedy' to explain the apparent energy violation in the beta decay. Many fundamental discoveries in particle physics had the neutrino involved in one way or another. To date, neutrino physics is still one of the hottest topics of modern particle physics. Key experiments and significant theoretical developments have contributed in building up what we can call now the Standard Model of Neutrino Physics. The aim of the book is to provide graduate students and young researchers a comprehensive tutorial in modern neutrino physics, specially tailored with emphasis on the educational aspects. It provides an overview of the basics and of recent achievements in the field, from both experimental and theoretical points of view.

Download or read book Neutrinos written by Arnold S. Lavro and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutrinos are one of the most abundant particles in the universe. Because they have very little interaction with matter, however, they are incredibly difficult to detect. Neutrinos are similar to the more familiar electron, with one crucial difference: neutrinos do not carry electric charge. Because neutrinos are electrically neutral, they are not affected by the electromagnetic forces which act on electrons. Three types of neutrinos are known. Each type or 'flavour' of neutrino is related to a charged particle (which gives the corresponding neutrino its name). Hence, the 'electron neutrino' is associated with the electron, and two other neutrinos are associated with heavier versions of the electron called the muon and the tau. The book presents citations from the literature for the last three years from the journal literature and the existent book literature. Access is provided by subject, author and title indexes.
