Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, Volume V, is the genealogy of Crockett Family and connecting lines. The Southern States were settled by three great waves of emigration, -Cavalier, Scotch-Irish and Huguenot. - These types retain their characteristics to this day, perhaps, largely, because groups of relatives, friends or neighbors settled in one section and gave a dominant tinge in creed, and church, and custom. The sons and daughters of these families married, and creed and custom grew stronger from year to year. Thus the Scotch-Irish, a people of Scotch origin, though living in Ireland for many years before the American emigration, settled in certain parts of Virginia, North and South Carolina, and, what is now, East Tennessee, in great numbers and impressed their Presbyterian faith upon their posterity. In the chapters of this book examples will be given of each of these groups-Cavalier, Scotch-Irish and Huguenot. The early history of these well-known Southern families is here presented, being published, at least in collected form, for the first time. The compiler takes no credit for authorship, as genealogy is not a science of invention. The facts, however, are clearly stated, and in the case of each family each line may be brought down to the present day from the earliest settler in America. The Colonial, Revolutionary, War of 1812 and War Between the States record of each family is set forth succinctly. No space has been given to tradition, though many traditions in the families mentioned are interesting and doubtless could be followed up and proved. Many histories have been consulted and many family documents studied, only reliable records being used. Though the chief endeavor of these chapters is to show the Colonial or Revolutionary settler and his posterity, a brief line of his progenitors is given in some cases, as the origin of name and family is always interesting. Hundreds of histories, court records and family documents have been examined in the preparation of this volume, and a large group of family members and members of the connecting lines have provided assistance. Some of these individuals includes David Graham, Mrs. Sidney S. Crockett, Mrs. Anna Bell Tuck-Sapp, Mrs. Wirt Johnson Carrington, J. Newton Harman, Miss Kitty Crockett, Mrs. Homer F. Sloan, and many others.

You will read James P. Crockett III's (pen name Jimmy Highpocket) "yarns" of his childhood in Missouri and Texas and the autobiographical "yarns" of his second great grand Uncle David Crockett. With both men's self told stories of their childhood you will begin to see the 'inflection points' in their frontier lives that shaped them into the men they become. The famous frontiersman, David Crockett, and the resilient Jimmy Highpockets both overcoming poor, frontier lives with exceptional courage, innovation and grit while be looked down upon by society. You will also learn how to bring your families' past to life by using the tools and quality research standards available today. This book makes clear what is quality genealogical research. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the Spur Award: The thrilling adventures of an American icon come alive in this vivid and authentic retelling of his remarkable story From humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to his heroic death defending the Alamo, frontiersman, adventurer, and politician David “Davy” Crockett embodies the spirit and ideals of the national character. Even during his lifetime, tales of the sharpshooting, skilled woodsman were—to his delight—told, retold, and elaborated on. As a US congressman, the former Creek War militiaman steadfastly opposed President Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act. As a soldier, he made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for an independent Texas. Nearly two centuries after his untimely demise, he remains a legendary figure in American lore. In this fictional account of Crockett’s life, author Cameron Judd offers a nuanced portrait of the man behind the myth. He depicts Crockett’s triumphs as a hunter, cattle drover, warrior, and legislator in riveting detail and poignantly illustrates his subject’s hardscrabble youth and complicated relationship with his father. Meticulously researched and rich in vibrant action, Crockett of Tennessee captures the charisma, ambition, and bravery of the man known as the “King of the Wild Frontier.”
