Download or read book Hermeneutics written by Henry A. Virkler and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides students and general readers with clear, accessible guidance for interpreting the Bible. With nearly 120,000 copies sold, it has become a trusted resource for serious students of the Bible. The authors' successful approach shows how proper theory leads to sound practice. This book gives readers not only an understanding of the principles of proper biblical interpretation but also the ability to apply those principles in sermon preparation, personal Bible study, or writing. The authors outline a seven-step hermeneutical process that includes (1) historical-cultural analysis, (2) written contextual analysis, (3) lexical-syntactical analysis, (4) literary analysis, (5) theological analysis, (6) comparison with other interpreters, and (7) application. The third edition has been updated throughout to account for new developments in the field and to incorporate feedback from professors and students. Exercises have also been updated and streamlined. Resources for instructors are available through Textbook eSources.
Book Synopsis Why Architects Still Draw by : Paolo Belardi
Download or read book Why Architects Still Draw written by Paolo Belardi and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2014-02-14 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An architect's defense of drawing as a way of thinking, even in an age of electronic media. Why would an architect reach for a pencil when drawing software and AutoCAD are a click away? Use a ruler when 3D-scanners and GPS devices are close at hand? In Why Architects Still Draw, Paolo Belardi offers an elegant and ardent defense of drawing by hand as a way of thinking. Belardi is no Luddite; he doesn't urge architects to give up digital devices for watercolors and a measuring tape. Rather, he makes a case for drawing as the interface between the idea and the work itself. A drawing, Belardi argues, holds within it the entire final design. It is the paradox of the acorn: a project emerges from a drawing—even from a sketch, rough and inchoate—just as an oak tree emerges from an acorn. Citing examples not just from architecture but also from literature, chemistry, music, archaeology, and art, Belardi shows how drawing is not a passive recording but a moment of invention pregnant with creative possibilities. Moving from the sketch to the survey, Belardi explores the meaning of measurement in a digital era. A survey of a site should go beyond width, height, and depth; it must include two more dimensions: history and culture. Belardi shows the sterility of techniques that value metric exactitude over cultural appropriateness, arguing for an “informed drawing” that takes into consideration more than meters or feet, stone or steel. Even in the age of electronic media, Belardi writes, drawing can maintain its role as a cornerstone of architecture.
Book Synopsis The Baths of Acqui by : Alessandro Martini
Download or read book The Baths of Acqui written by Alessandro Martini and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The great future ambitions of Acqui, a European spa city, are rooted in its history, of which this book tells the story. As in other localities that were made famous (and attractive) by their thermal waters, it is the spa that has given rise to its economic well-being and, especially, to its historical identity and memory. Centuries of use of its curative mud and waters brought with it great buildings for accommodation and treatment, though the city truly took off in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. However, unlike many international centres of relaxation and recreation, Acqui has always been a place more for treatment than for leisure. Though never built, the architectural designs of the 1920s were extraordinary in terms of their spatial and design solutions, and still today they point to an age of enormous ambition, accompanied by a grand vision for the city and its spa system. A vision in which the city believes as much today as ever before."--Publisher.

Book Synopsis The City in Late Antiquity by : Dr John Rich
Download or read book The City in Late Antiquity written by Dr John Rich and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The city was the nexus of the Roman Empire in its early centuries. The City in Late Antiquity charts the change undergone by cities as the Empire was weakened by the third-century crisis, and later disintegrated under external pressures. The old picture of the classical city as everywhere in decline by the fourth century is shown to be far too simple, and John Rich seeks to explain why urban life disappeared in some regions, while elsewhere cities survived through to the Middle Ages and beyond.
