Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is a selection of the technical papers on chemical-resistant equipment as presented from 1971 through 1975 at the Annual Conference of the Reinforced Plastics/Composites Institute of the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. The selection answers the frequent request for a compact, central source for general or representative material on reinforced plastics' technical potential in the corrosion and piping systems applications. The complete Proceedings of the Conferences mentioned above continue to be available, each 800-page volume containing approximately one hundred papers on all phases of reinforced plastics applications, materials, and research. The papers selected for reprint here are those requested most often, or have otherwise proven useful to users of RP equipment, purchasing and design engineers, and members of the producer industry itself. Section Five offers readers suggestions on further sources of information, including recommendations on future publications and activities which are likely to keep up-to-date those interested in the fast developing field of reinforced plastics chemical resistant equipment and piping systems, of which this supplement is but a sampler. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial and domestic piping is increasingly made from various plastics and composites, and these materials withstand heavy use over long periods. They are, however, affected by environmental and other factors over time and can degrade, causing major problems within piping systems. Farshad's book deals with why plastic pipes and systems fail, and with how to investigate and diagnose such failures. Pipes may buckle, fracture, change in dimensions and colour, blister and delaminate, corrode through stress, be abraded and obstructed: all these cause problems and lead to loss of efficient operation of a system. The author's experience is backed up by a large data-base of results Wide target audience Only book covering the entire subject Unique approach based on long experience

This book was released on 2009-11-19 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ductile iron pipe (DIP) was introduced about 50 years ago as a more economical and better-performing product for water transmission and distribution. As with iron or steel pipes, DIP is subject to corrosion, the rate of which depends on the environment in which the pipe is placed. Corrosion mitigation protocols are employed to slow the corrosion process to an acceptable rate for the application. When to use corrosion mitigation systems, and which system, depends on the corrosivity of the soils in which the pipeline is buried. The Bureau of Reclamation's specification for DIP in highly corrosive soil has been contested by some as an overly stringent requirement, necessitating the pipe to be modified from its as-manufactured state and thereby adding unnecessary cost to a pipeline system. This book evaluates the specifications in question and presents findings and recommendations. Specifically, the authoring committee answers the following questions: Does polyethylene encasement with cathodic protection work on ductile iron pipe installed in highly corrosive soils? Will polyethylene encasement and cathodic protection reliably provide a minimum service life of 50 years? What possible alternative corrosion mitigation methods for DIP would provide a service life of 50 years?
