Book Synopsis Parallel Processing Techniques for Simulation by : Madan Singh
Download or read book Parallel Processing Techniques for Simulation written by Madan Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides the proceedings of the First European Workshop on Parallel Processing Techniques for Simulation which was held at the end of October 1985. The Workshop was organized within the framework of a joint project sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities under the research part of the multiannua1 programme in the field of Data Processing aming at promoting collaborative research work in the Community. The project involved collaborative work between the Complex Systems Group of the Control Systems Centre at UMIST, the Systems Reliability Service of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and the University of Bergamo, Italy. The aim of this project was to develop decomposition coordination techniques which would be of help in the simulation of complex dynamical systems on parallel processing facilities. One of the major aims of the Workshop was to report on the results produced within the project and to try to relate these to the leading work going on in this field in other centres of excellence. With this in mind, the Proceedings Volume is split up into a number of parts corresponding to the main sessions within the Workshop programme.

Book Synopsis Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology by : Jeffrey Lewins
Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology written by Jeffrey Lewins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the second of our occasional departures from the format of an annual review series, being devoted to one coherent topic. We have the pleasure therefore in presenting a concerted sequence of articles on the use of Simulators for Nuclear Power. An essential attribute of a quantified engineer in any discipline is to be able to model and predict, i.e. to analyze, the behaviour of the subject under scrutiny. Simulation goes, one would argue, a step further. The engineer providing a simulator takes a broader view of the system studied and makes the analysis available to a wider audience. Hence simulation may have a part to play in design but also in operation, in accident studies and also in training. It leads to synthesis as well as analysis. There is no doubt that the massive scale and the economic investment implied in nuclear power programmes demands an increased infra-structure in licensing and training as well as in design and operation. The simulator is a cheap alter native - admittedly cheap only in relative terms - but also perhaps an essential method of providing realistic experience with negligible or at least small risk. Nuclear power therefore has led to a wide range of simulators. At the same time we would not overlook the sub stantial role played by simulators in say the aero-industry; indeed the ergonomic and psychological studies associated with that industry hold many lessons.
Book Synopsis Vectorization of Computer Programs with Applications to Computational Fluid Dynamics by : Wolfgang Gentzsch
Download or read book Vectorization of Computer Programs with Applications to Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Wolfgang Gentzsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of the present book is to offer the most efficient tools for the vectorization of serial computer programs. Here, by vectorization we understand the adaptation of computer programs to the special architecture of modern available vector computers to exploit fully their potential, which will often result in remarkable performance improvements. The book is written primarily for users working in the various fields of computational physics, for scientists as well as for programmers running their jobs on a vector computer. The text may, however, also be of value to those who are interested in numerical algorithms. Although the examples discussed in chapter 9 have been taken from Computational Fluid Dynamics, the numerical methods are well-known, and are applied in many fields of Computational Physics. The book is divided into four parts. After a short introduction which outlines the limits of conventional serial computers in contrast to the possibilities offered by the new vector machines, the second part is addressed to the discussion of some main features of existing computer architectures. We restrict ourselves to the vector computers CRAY-1S and CDC-CYBER 205, although, in the meantime, many vector and parallel computers and array processors are available such as DENELCOR's Heterogeneous Element Processor (HEP), ICL's Distributed Array Processor (DAP), SPERRY UNIVAC's Array Processing System (APS), STAR TECHNOLOGIES ST-l00, FLOATING POINT SYSTEMS' Array Processor (FPS), FUJITSU's FACOM VP-l00 and VP-200, HITACHI's Integrated Array Processor (lAP), HITACHI's S 810/10 and S 810/20 and others.

Book Synopsis Parallel Computers 2 by : R.W Hockney
Download or read book Parallel Computers 2 written by R.W Hockney and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition, parallel computing technology has gained considerable momentum. A large proportion of this has come from the improvement in VLSI techniques, offering one to two orders of magnitude more devices than previously possible. A second contributing factor in the fast development of the subject is commercialization. The supercomputer is no longer restricted to a few well-established research institutions and large companies. A new computer breed combining the architectural advantages of the supercomputer with the advance of VLSI technology is now available at very attractive prices. A pioneering device in this development is the transputer, a VLSI processor specifically designed to operate in large concurrent systems. Parallel Computers 2: Architecture, Programming and Algorithms reflects the shift in emphasis of parallel computing and tracks the development of supercomputers in the years since the first edition was published. It looks at large-scale parallelism as found in transputer ensembles. This extensively rewritten second edition includes major new sections on the transputer and the OCCAM language. The book contains specific information on the various types of machines available, details of computer architecture and technologies, and descriptions of programming languages and algorithms. Aimed at an advanced undergraduate and postgraduate level, this handbook is also useful for research workers, machine designers, and programmers concerned with parallel computers. In addition, it will serve as a guide for potential parallel computer users, especially in disciplines where large amounts of computer time are regularly used.
Book Synopsis Synthesizing Synchronous Systems by Static Scheduling in Space-Time by : Björn Lisper
Download or read book Synthesizing Synchronous Systems by Static Scheduling in Space-Time written by Björn Lisper and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-05-10 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book is the synthesis of synchronous hardware. The purpose is to provide a firm mathematical foundation for the so-called space-time mapping methods for hardware synthesis that have been proposed during the last few years. Thus the treatment is fairly mathematical. In a space-time mapping method, an algorithm is described as a set of atomic events, with possible data dependencies between them. The task is to find a mapping, assigning a space-time coordinate to each event, so that causality is not violated and the solution is "good". Previous work in the area, if it provided any formalism at all, has relied mainly on uniform recurrence equations, extensions thereof, or on purely graph-theoretic formulations. In this project algebra is used instead and the close connection with single-assignment languages is stressed. Thus it is possible to generalize previous work and to give simple characterizations of the type of algorithms that can be implemented with space-time mappings. The results presented can be applied to hardware construction and compiler techniques for parallel computers.
