Book excerpt: There is one true God, Who gave us one true set of doctrines. So how are there thousands of denominations in Christianity, all teaching different doctrines? How can you be certain what you have been taught is the truth? Yet there is an even more important question you should ask yourself. What is more important? Following the doctrines you have been taught, or following the doctrines according to the true Word of God?The fact is, a pastor will only give you a couple interpretations of verses to back up what he is teaching. Those verses are interpreted to fit the particular set of beliefs. Pastors have to teach the doctrines of their denomination.I had been trapped in sin for around thirty years when God pulled me back to Him. When I wanted to return to church, God shut doors on me. He had other plans for me. As I was reading the Bible, I quickly learned that basic doctrines I had been taught when I was young, were completely wrong! I knew then what God wanted from me. To study His Word for myself and find the truth. Not the truth according to some church, but the full truth of God's Word!I set some very strict rules that I had to follow in my studies and I stuck to them. It is because of these rules that I found the absolute Truth of God's Word and there are zero contradictions. And most Christians have a hard time accepting them. Not because they can give a good argument against the doctrines in this book, but simply because they would then need to accept they have been taught wrong. That is why I ask that question. What is more important to you? Following the doctrines you have been taught, or following the doctrines according to the true Word of God?

In an age when pastoral failure and burnout are increasingly common, this book is a call to endurance in ministry, encouraging pastors to stand strong in their role and not lose heart, regardless of what God sends their way.
Download or read book Biblical Truths written by Dale B. Martin and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-21 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading biblical scholar’s landmark work challenges the historical realism that has dominated the discipline for more than two centuries How can a modern person, informed by science and history, continue to recite the traditional creeds and confessions of the Christian church? What does the Bible mean and how do we verify biblical truths? In this groundbreaking book, a leading biblical scholar urges readers to be more creative interpreters of biblical texts, mapping out an alternative way of reading that is not first and foremost about understanding what those texts would have meant for the original authors and readers. Limiting our study to the ancient meaning of the text, he argues, has produced either bad history, or bad theology, or both. One cannot derive robustly orthodox Christian doctrine or theology from a mere “historical” interpretation of the Bible. Martin offers instead theological readings of the New Testament that are faithful to Christian orthodoxy as generally understood, but without attempting a “foundationalist” understanding of the meaning of the text. His provocative and ambitious book demonstrates how theology and scripture can remain vital in the twenty-first century.

Book excerpt: We R2B1 answers many questions. Why are there over 33,800 Christian denominations worldwide? What impact does this fractured face of the body of Christ have on church vitality, ministry, and evangelism? Why is Christianity in decline in Australia, Europe, and North America? Why does the proliferation of the gospel flourish in areas and then decline with time? Why has it been over a century since the last widespread revival in America? Despite all that, why is the number of denominations in America still growing? Why do we spend so much time and resources debating a doctrine that is not essential to salvation? How do our clergy feel about denominations? What does the scripture say about divisive issues? Will God hold us accountable for teaching a biased or incorrect doctrine? What will those consequences be? What does the Bible teach about unity? Why are ecumenical organizations having limited success in promoting unity? What are the characteristics of teaching biblical truth? When two people differ on a belief essential for salvation, at least one must be wrong. Chapter 12 provides steps to help us grow back together. There is more information at WeR2B1.com.

Book Synopsis Church Doctrine and the Bible by : David Instone-Brewer
Download or read book Church Doctrine and the Bible written by David Instone-Brewer and published by Scripture in Context. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You know the doctrines, but are they biblical? Too often, Christians are content to state a doctrine, list a few supporting Bible passages, and proceed on to the next. But are these doctrines truly derived from the Bible, or are we slotting verses into our pre-determined theological grids? In Church Doctrine and the Bible, biblical scholar David Instone-Brewer applies his expertise in first-century backgrounds and culture to popular Christian doctrines. Peeling away thousands of years of theological development reveals how the Bible's original hearers would have understood these doctrines and helps us resolve some of our doctrinal disputes and misunderstandings. Through this process, Instone-Brewer answers the question, "is this doctrine biblical?" Church Doctrine and the Bible will help pastors, theologians, and laypersons see familiar doctrines with fresh, first-century, eyes. By restoring the revolutionary simplicity of the Bible's teachings, we gain new insights into these doctrines and what they mean for the church today. The Scripture in Context series is driven by the conviction that there is nothing as exciting, direct, provocative, and spiritually enlightening as the Bible when we read it as it was meant to be read. Each book in the series dives into the ancient cultural context behind Bible passages, examining the effect this context had on what the Bible writers were saying and how we should understand their words today. When we read the Bible in light of its context, it is anything but boring. Instead, God's word can speak to us as powerfully as it did to those who first read it.
