Book Synopsis The British Nuclear Deterrent by : Peter Malone
Download or read book The British Nuclear Deterrent written by Peter Malone and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-16 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United Kingdom was the first country to undertake atomic energy research and development for military purposes. In April 1940 the British government commissioned a group of scientists to study the possibilities of manufacturing a ‘uranium bomb’ in wartime. Originally published in 1984, this book traces the development of British nuclear weapons from those early times to the present. It examines the decisions of Atlee and the MacMillan governments in sustaining the nuclear deterrent through the hydrogen bomb and the Polaris programme, and discusses in detail the decision to proceed with Trident. Throughout the narrative is set against the background of British domestic politics and Anglo-American relations. The book demonstrates why for nearly forty years British governments remained committed to an independent nuclear deterrent as the last line of defence should NATO fail.

This book was released on 2013-11-08 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book on the gender-inclusive treatment of intimate partner abuse has been fully updated to reflect new and refined evidence-based approaches that have evolved since the first edition was published nearly ten years ago. It describes new treatment protocols that are strongly supported by current research that enables mental health practitioners to engage in a more nuanced-and gender inclusive conceptualization and treatment of intimate partner abuse in its many permutations. The book eschews the field's previous reliance on traditional domestic violence and treatment protocols to offer new paradigms that reflect the trend toward a more balanced, evidence-based and less heteronormative conceptualization of partner abuse. It presents the latest findings from the third installment of the Partner Abuse State of Knowledge Project. Included are new examples of evidence-based programs currently in existence and those that are in formative stages, fully updated exercises and handouts, new risk assessment instruments, and new definitions of evidence-based treatment. Of special note are several new appendices that include updated assessment forms, a victim safety plan, client workbook guidelines and exercises, resources and programs for court-ordered clients, and exercises for high conflict family violence parent groups. In addition, a new assessment protocol will be available as a free download. New to the Second Edition: Includes the latest findings from the Partner Abuse State of Knowledge Project Presents most current literature on risk assessment instruments Provides new definitions of evidence-based treatment regarding degree of rigor along with outcome data and newest relevant studies Discusses promising new group programs Includes a new assessment tool available as free download Describes several new, evidence-based gender-inclusive approaches Offers comprehensive appendices that reflect recent advances including newassessment forms, a victim safety plan, client workbook guidelines and exercises, resources and programs for court-ordered clients, and exercises for high conflict family violence parent groups
Book Synopsis Family Abuse and Its Consequences by : Gerald T. Hotaling

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The collected case examples are noteworthy in their diversity of presenting issue, treatment format, and outcome. As a whole, they underline our continued need to conduct assessments with clients prior to initiating treatment, to direct treatment toward identified client-related problems (in essence, meeting clients where they are), and to collect data that speaks to the effectiveness of our interventions in many settings and with many types of clients." -Jennifer Langhinrichsen-Rohling, PhD, Professor of Psychology, University of South Alabama Shows how to successfully conduct family interventions using case studies Includes male-perpetrated, female-perpetrated, and mutual violence scenarios Presents a variety of theoretical orientations Includes discussion questions after each case study This casebook showcases a wide variety of couples and families whose domestic violence cases vary in their composition, ethnic and socioeconomic status, and mental health issues. The case authors outline different therapeutic approaches for each case, including cognitive-behavioral, family systems, feminist, problem-solving, and many others. Each account includes a thorough description of the assessment procedure, treatment goals and reasons for selecting a particular approach and an account of the course of treatment. The book is primarily intended for mental health professionals and graduate students in the fields of family therapy, counseling, and family violence; but will also be of value to anyone in the field of family violence and those concerned with domestic violence public policy, prevention, and intervention.

Book Synopsis Area, Lattice Points, and Exponential Sums by : M. N. Huxley
Download or read book Area, Lattice Points, and Exponential Sums written by M. N. Huxley and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996-06-13 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In analytic number theory a large number of problems can be "reduced" to problems involving the estimation of exponential sums in one or several variables. This book is a thorough treatment of the developments arising from the method developed by Bombieri and Iwaniec in 1986 for estimating the Riemann zeta function on the line *s = 1/2. Huxley and his coworkers (mostly Huxley) have taken this method and vastly extended and improved it. The powerful techniques presented here go considerably beyond older methods for estimating exponential sums such as van de Corput's method. The potential for the method is far from being exhausted, and there is considerable motivation for other researchers to try to master this subject. However, anyone currently trying to learn all of this material has the formidable task of wading through numerous papers in the literature. This book simplifies that task by presenting all of the relevant literature and a good part of the background in one package. The audience for the book will be mathematics graduate students and faculties with a research interest in analytic theory; more specifically, those with an interest in exponential sum methods. The book is self-contained; any graduate student with a one semester course in analytic number theory should have a more than sufficient background.
