Had Albert Einstein and Arsenio Hall lived at one and the same time, could it have been something the latter said-"Jack Sajak, as an emcee, is square "-to provide the former with the breakthrough for his now world-renowned equation, E=mc2? Had The Beatles and Adolf Hitler met, the latter commenting off-handedly, "Yes, I did once get Meyer Rothschild's attention by screaming, 'Hey Jude '"-could the idea for the former's famous song have taken root, right then and there? No one can know for sure, but internationally renowned author William Maltese can and has conjectured just such what ifs..

The first part deals with the basic principles of solid catalyst preparation, explaining the main aspects of sol-gel chemistry and interfacial chemistry, followed by such techniques as co-precipitation and immobilization. New tools for catalyst preparation research, including microspectroscopy and high-throughput experimentation, are also taken into account. The second part heightens the practical relevance by providing six case studies on such topics as the preparation of zeolites, hydrotreating catalysts, methanol catalysts and gold catalysts

Book excerpt: “Bravo Pete, on a remarkable effort to pen a path of enlightenment to those who seek to advance creativity for self, teams and tribes. Your book is a symphony of data points and rather than being disjointed, it actuality seems to mirror the very nature of the zigzag connect-the-dot process inherent with the idea-generation stage of creativity. You once asked me if the idea-generation stage isn’t the hardest part for most people. If the answer is yes, then your Catalytic Thinking methodology is exactly that timely solution the world needs now – one that is simple, elegant, effective, fun and within the reach of everyone. To all prospective readers I say, “Yippee to Pete and people like him who make the going easier for the rest of us.” Chuck Scott, Founder of Avanti Group Inc, writer, photographer, websmith, and business innovation expert “With a little work on organization this book will hold the reader’s attention and make them enjoy the idea generation process you introduce to them. At its best, this book could greatly improve the lives of its readers.” An anonymous editor at Litopia Publishing, a London-based company. These comments were from an assessment of a very early version of my manuscript. I loved this positive encouragement as it was interspersed in a very candid and constructive critique. I hope you feel I did the “little work” needed to make this book its very best. For more information, please click here

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposium on Hydrotreatment and Hydrocracking of Oil Fractions aims to provide a global perspective and an inspection of the state-of-the-art of these processes. New American, European and Japanese environmental regulations call for advanced hydrotreatment processes for HDS and HDN for the removal of S- and Ni-components from oil fractions. These will alter the product slate of the oil refineries and the hydrocarbon composition of these products. Hydrocracking will play an important part in this shift. Adapting the operating conditions will not suffice to reach the desired product specifications and yields. Adequate catalysts will have to be developed. Powerful tools are now available for this, e.g. surface science techniques, molecular modeling and new types of reactors operated in a nonsteady mode. Another instrument in the improvement of hydrotreatment and hydrocracking units is the availability of more realistic kinetic models. These are based on a judicious insight into the reaction mechanism, also provided by the above-mentioned tools. Progress in the analytical techniques has allowed the reduction of the lumping of components in these kinetic models and first order kinetic equations are gradually replaced by equations accounting for the adsorption of the various components. More detailed and more realistic reactor models are now based on rigorous hydrodynamic models and their application has become possible through the rapidly increasing possibilities of computers.

This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its establishment at the turn of the century, a central preoccupation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been to catalyse the pursuit of criminal accountability at the domestic level. Drawing on ten years of research, this book theorizes the ICC's principle of complementarity as a transnational site and adaptive strategy for realizing an array of ambitious governance goals. Through a grounded, inter-disciplinary approach, it illustrates how complementarity came to be framed as a 'catalyst for compliance' and its unexpected effects on the legal frameworks and institutions of three different ICC 'situation countries' in Africa: Uganda, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Linking complementarity's law and practice to contemporary debates in international law and relations, the book unsettles international law's dominant progressive narrative. It urges a critical rethinking of the ICC's politics and a reorientation towards international criminal justice as a project of global legal pluralism.
