Book Synopsis Managing Energy Use in Modern Buildings by : Bernard Flaman
Download or read book Managing Energy Use in Modern Buildings written by Bernard Flaman and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2021-07-05 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely volume brings together case studies that address the urgent need to manage energy use and improve thermal comfort in modern buildings while preserving their historic significance and character. This collection of ten case studies addresses the issues surrounding the improvement of energy consumption and thermal comfort in modern buildings built between 1928 and 1969 and offers valuable lessons for other structures facing similar issues. These buildings, international in scope and diverse in type, style, and size, range from the Shulman House, a small residence in Los Angeles, to the TD Bank Tower, a skyscraper complex in Toronto, and from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a cultural venue in Lisbon, to the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam, now an office building. Showing ingenuity and sensitivity, the case studies consider improvements to such systems as heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation, and controls. They provide examples that demonstrate best practices in conservation and show ways to reduce carbon footprints, minimize impacts to historic materials and features, and introduce renewable energy sources, in compliance with energy codes and green-building rating systems. The Conserving Modern Heritage series, launched in 2019, is written by architects, engineers, conservators, scholars, and allied professionals. The books in this series provide well-vetted case studies that address the challenges of conserving twentieth-century heritage.

Book Synopsis Recorded Energy Consumption Data on Office Buildings by : A. H. Elmahdy
Download or read book Recorded Energy Consumption Data on Office Buildings written by A. H. Elmahdy and published by Division of Building Research, National Research Council of Canada [i.e. National Research Council Canada]. This book was released on 1982 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standing Committee on Energy Conservation in Buildings is attempting, on behalf of the National Research Council Associate Committee on the National Building Code, to define appropriate energy consumption targets for different classes of buildings. These are partly based on the actual energy consumption of existing buildings. Annual energy consumption data on groups of office buildings are provided in this report to demonstrate the pattern of energy consumption for this class of building. Table 1 gives a summary of the sample size, the average, maximum and minimum floor areas, and the annual energy consumption for each group of office buildings. Complete listings of energy consumption and other relevant information are presented in Tables 2 through 8. Although no attempt has been made to correlate energy consumption data with other variables, plots of energy consumption in GJ/m2yr. versus building floor area are shown in Figures 1 through 4. The right-hand side ordinate on these figures shows the frequency of occurrence in the corresponding energy consumption bins listed on the left-hand side. Figure 1 shows the variation of annual energy consumption according to floor area for about 80 office buildings, as surveyed by Ontario Hydro in 1974. A sample of 39 of these office buildings was resurveyed in 1977. As shown in Table 3, there was a reduction in the annual energy consumption for 1977 compared to that for 1974 for some of the buildings in the Ontario Hydro Study. This reduction is shown in Figure 2 for changes greater than or equal to 0.3 GJ/m2yr. No explanation given as to the cause of this decline. However, it could be credited to one or more of the following factors: 1. weather changes; 2. occupancy and vacancy patterns; 3. implementation of energy conservation programs.
Book Synopsis Canadian Energy Efficiency Outlook by : Pierre Langlois
Download or read book Canadian Energy Efficiency Outlook written by Pierre Langlois and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Efficiency (EE) has been recognized since the early 1970s as the most relevant mechanism to optimize the way we meet our energy needs. The rationale behind this book is to present where the Canadian EE sector stands today to all Canadian stakeholders and those interested around the world. The Canada Energy Efficiency Outlook aims to outline the different environments that support EE development in our highly diversified provinces and territories, as well as at the national level, and consequently allow the reader to better understand the complexities involved. More globally, this book serves as an important reference for all interested parties on how Canada has variably innovated and developed mechanisms to achieve the goal of making this country more energy efficient.
