Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of smart camera systems, considering practical applications but also reviewing fundamental aspects of the underlying technology. It introduces in a tutorial style the principles of sensing and signal processing, and also describes topics such as wireless connection to the Internet of Things (IoT) which is expected to be the biggest market for smart cameras. It is an excellent guide to the fundamental of smart camera technology, and the chapters complement each other well as the authors have worked as a team under the auspice of GFP(Global Frontier Project), the largest-scale funded research in Korea. This is the third of three books based on the Integrated Smart Sensors research project, which describe the development of innovative devices, circuits, and system-level enabling technologies. The aim of the project was to develop common platforms on which various devices and sensors can be loaded, and to create systems offering significant improvements in information processing speed, energy usage, and size. This book contains extensive reference lists, introduces the reader to the subject in a tutorial style and also reviews state-of-the-art results, which allows it to be used as a guide for starting researchers.

The camera uses robust techniques for detecting and tracking moving objects. The real time capture of the objects is then stored in the database. The tracking data stored in the database is analysed to study the camera view, detect and track objects, and study object behavior. These set of models provide a robust framework for coordinating the tracking of objects between overlapping and non-overlapping cameras, and recording the activity of objects detected by the system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Smart Camera In addition to being able to extract application-specific information from the images that are captured, a machine vision system that is referred to as a smart camera (sensor), intelligent camera (sensor), (smart) vision sensor, intelligent vision sensor, smart optical sensor, intelligent optical sensor, smart visual sensor, or intelligent visual sensor is also capable of generating event descriptions or making decisions that are utilized in an intelligent and automated system. There are many different types of machine vision systems. A smart camera is a vision system that is self-contained and operated independently. It is housed within the casing of an industrial video camera and has an image sensor integrated in. There is the possibility of integrating the vision system and the image sensor into a single piece of hardware that is referred to as an intelligent image sensor or smart image sensor together. In addition to having all of the necessary communication connections, such as Ethernet, it also has industry-proof 24V I/O lines that can be used to link to a programmable logic controller (PLC), actuators, relays, or pneumatic valves. These lines can be either static or movable. It does not necessary have to be larger than a surveillance camera or an industrial camera. In the field of machine vision, the term "capability" typically refers to a level of development that has reached the point where the capabilities are ready to be utilized on specific applications. When compared to vision systems that are based on personal computers, this design has the advantage of having a smaller volume and frequently achieving cheaper costs. However, this comes at the expense of a user interface that is relatively simpler or even absent altogether. In addition to being referred to by the more broad term "smart sensors," smart cameras are also in use. How you will benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Smart camera Chapter 2: Computer vision Chapter 3: Machine vision Chapter 4: Video camera Chapter 5: Cognex Corporation Chapter 6: Image sensor Chapter 7: Traffic enforcement camera Chapter 8: AI accelerator Chapter 9: Event camera Chapter 10: Intelligent transportation system (II) Answering the public top questions about smart camera. (III) Real world examples for the usage of smart camera in many fields. Who this book is for Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of Smart Camera.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents dynamic reconfiguration methods for Active Camera Networks. Active Camera Networks consist of autonomous vehicles - each one equipped with a visual sensor - communicating wirelessly with each other in order to perform surveillance tasks in a collaborative way. Recent advances in the area of robotics have led to the development of autonomous vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles that can be used to explore operational environments such as urban areas or unknown building structures. This thesis is devoted to the development of dynamic reconfiguration methods, which allow for distributed control of collaborating cameras in dynamic environments. Thus, they act self-organizing and with the least a priori information in terms of their environment. The focus is on the wide-area target acquisition of moving targets in a surveillance area. It addresses application scenarios where events unfold over a large geographic area and close-up views have to be acquired for biometric tasks such as face detection. The main problem is to coordinate numerous cameras in order to reach a system behavior that only one capture of each target is acquired.

Book excerpt: The application of intelligent imaging techniques to industrial vision problems is an evolving aspect of current machine vision research. Machine vision is a relatively new technology, more concerned with systems engineering than with computer science, and with much to offer the manufacturing industry in terms of improving efficiency, safety and product quality. Beginning with an introductory chapter on the basic concepts, the authors develop these ideas to describe intelligent imaging techniques for use in a new generation of industrial imaging systems. Sections cover the application of AI languages such as Prolog, the use of multi-media interfaces and multi-processor systems, external device control, and colour recognition. The text concludes with a discussion of several case studies that illustrate how intelligent machine vision techniques can be used in industrial applications.
