Book Synopsis Depressive Disorders: Mechanisms, Measurement and Management by : Yiru Fang
Download or read book Depressive Disorders: Mechanisms, Measurement and Management written by Yiru Fang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-29 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a state-of-the-art report on recent discoveries concerning the basic and clinical, neuroscientific and psychiatric findings in depression research. Depressive disorder is a severe and recurrent brain disorder that can manifest in depressive mood, somatic symptoms and cognitive impairment. The underlying mechanisms of depressive disorder and its clinical practice are subjects of long-standing interests. This book is a biologically plausible and multilevel theory which describes neural, physiological, molecular and genomic mechanisms that drive depression pathogenesis, as well as navigates the clinical practice and management for depressive disorder. It mainly describes advances made over the past 20 years on the neural, molecular, neuroimaging, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and internet-based measurement and management of depressive disorder. It will help postgraduate students and academic researchers to get either basic or clinical picture of depressive disorder. Also, it may benefit pharmaceutical companies for developing novel drugs to treat this disease.
Book Synopsis Mechanisms and Emerging Therapies in Tremor Disorders by : Giuliana Grimaldi
Download or read book Mechanisms and Emerging Therapies in Tremor Disorders written by Giuliana Grimaldi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tremor is intimately linked to the numerous interactions of the central and peripheral nervous system components tuning motor control, from the cerebral cortex to the peripheral effectors. Activities of central generators, reflex loop delays, inertia, stiffness, and damping are all factors that influence the features of tremor. This completely updated new edition discusses the pathophysiology of tremor, including membrane mechanisms and rodent models, the advances in genetics, and the musculoskeletal models pertinent to body oscillations. The main forms of tremor encountered during clinical practice are considered, taking into account neuroimaging aspects. The book covers recent advances in methodologies and techniques of assessment and provides practical information for daily management. This new edition is informed by the guidelines of the Tremor Task Force of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society. New chapters include Classification of Tremors, Medically Induced Tremors, Resting State fMRI, and Gabaergic Pathways. In addition to pharmacological treatments, neurosurgical approaches such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and thalamotomy are discussed. Emerging techniques under development are also introduced.

Book Synopsis Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (Volume 4) by : Vikram Patel
Download or read book Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (Volume 4) written by Vikram Patel and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mental, neurological, and substance use disorders are common, highly disabling, and associated with significant premature mortality. The impact of these disorders on the social and economic well-being of individuals, families, and societies is large, growing, and underestimated. Despite this burden, these disorders have been systematically neglected, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, with pitifully small contributions to scaling up cost-effective prevention and treatment strategies. Systematically compiling the substantial existing knowledge to address this inequity is the central goal of this volume. This evidence-base can help policy makers in resource-constrained settings as they prioritize programs and interventions to address these disorders.

Book Synopsis Molecular Mechanisms of Dementia by : Wilma Wasco
Download or read book Molecular Mechanisms of Dementia written by Wilma Wasco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-11-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past decade has witnessed a revolution in the attempts of scientists to under stand the molecular basis of dementia. Although dementia, as defined by global cogni tive decline involving gradual loss of memory, reasoning, judgment, and orientation, presents most commonly in the form of Alzheimer's disease (AD), an assortment of other less common disorders, such as prion and Pick's disease, can also lead to symp toms that are similar to those observed in patients with AD. The primary goal of Molecular Mechanisms of Dementia is to address the various mechanisms and multi faceted approaches currently being employed to more clearly delineate the etiological and pathogenic events responsible for the onset of dementia. Perhaps the greatest boon to obtaining a clearer understanding of the causes of AD has come from genetic and molecular biological studies carried out over the past decade. At the genetic level, it has become increasingly clear that AD is a heteroge neous disorder that can be broadly classified into two categories. "Late onset" (>60 yr) cases, which account for the vast majority of AD, genetically involve "susceptibility" genes representing risk factors for the disease (e. g. , inheritance of the 84 allele of the Apolipoprotein E gene). In many cases, the susceptibility gene can act as a "modifier" that modulates the pathogenic cascade occurring subsequent to a separate etiological event "initiating" or "causing" the disorder.
