In 2022, a Replicant attack on the Tyrell Corporation forced the company into bankruptcy and erased all records of existing Replicants. The surviving Nexus 8 models disappeared with the help of the Replicant underground. Many Replicants remained in servitude. In 20217, Aahna “Ash” Ashina, a former Blade Runner, rejoined her department to hunt down fugitive Replicants. Her superiors are unaware that her loyalties are divided. Her lover, Freysa, is a leader in the Replicant underground. While investigating a report of a rogue Replicant at the Los Angeles seawall construction site, Ash discovered that a Nexus 6 Replicant, Yotun, whom she had failed to retire 12 years previously, had somehow outlived his expiration date and had become the leader of a Replicant guerrilla army. In a surprise attack, Yotun and his Replicants destroyed a section of the seawall and murdered the political and corporate elite of Los Angeles. Ash, meanwhile, finds herself captive in Yotun’s hidden base of operations…

Replicants were used Off-world as slave labor. After a series of violent rebellions, their manufacture was prohibited and Tyrell Corp ultimately went bankrupt. The collapse of ecosystems in the mid 2020s led to the rise of industrialist Niander Wallace, whose mastery of synthetic farming averted famine. Wallace acquired the remains of Tyrell Corp and created a new line of Replicants who obeyed without question. One of the first of these, code-named Luv, was gifted by Wallace to the Los Angeles Police Department as the first Replicant Blade Runner, tasked with the capture and retirement of fugitive earlier models.
