Book excerpt: Today, many churches teach that once a person believes and trusts in Jesus Christ, their Salvation is assured. They can know with certainty that they will go to heaven.no matter what. The churches further teach that the individual has no part to play in their salvation. God does it all. These teachings are not Biblical. The Bible teaches that no person can know their ultimate destiny. The best one can do is to live a life of demonstrated faith and hope they will make it to heaven. Indeed, a person does have a part to play in their destiny, and by their choices they can stay on the pathway that leads to salvation or they can depart from it. This book clarifies the Biblical path to Salvation, articulates a Biblical argument that refutes the 'assurance of salvation' doctrine and reveals the spiritual dangers that are produced by this teaching. Harding Hedgpeth is a professional test pilot and the holder of 9 aviation world records set in the B-1 Bomber. He has no formal theological training. He does not belong to any formal church. As he characterizes himself, he is a disciple of Jesus Christ, cleverly disguised as a test pilot. Harding was raised as a Presbyterian, married a Catholic and didn't realize that the Bible was God's truth until 1987 when he was 40 years old. He has immersed himself in the study of God's Word ever since. The study of God's Word led him to realize that today's churches are leading their parishioners astray in some important areas. One of those areas is the doctrine of 'the assurance of salvation.' Accordingly, Harding felt a strong compulsion to write this book. Though a relatively short book, it has taken four years to research and one year to write.

Book excerpt: In the Epistle of Jude, Jude writes that he was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share. Jude 1:3 Eternal Life, or the after life is interpreted differently by different religions. There is Avast difference between the worlds religions, and Christian denominations. World religions do not include salvation; saved by faith through grace. Where as in Christianity we are saved by our faith in The Lord Jesus Christ through the grace he extends to those who believe. The bible has much to say about this;, when do to get saved, today, where, any where, how, call on the name of the Lord for forgiveness. Eternal life that is eternal, not temporary. We have been chosen, called, drawn, enabled, qualified and sealed by God to God through our Lord Jesus Christ into an eternal kingdom.

Book excerpt: Have you ever just wanted to sit down and read something about God or Jesus just to get closer to him to know him more intimately or to expand your understanding of his creation and plan for you? So you find a book that advertises just the subject matter you are interested in, then you open it and begin to read, but before long, you realize you have to run and get the dictionary. Then you may have to purchase a dictionary of theology, then maybe an encyclopedia of Christian apologetics just to understand what you are reading. When this happens, readers often give up on the book and never finish it and may never buy another one. It can get discouraging when confronted with terminology like infralapsarianism, hamartiology, and demythologization, and that doesn't include the hundreds of nontheological words rarely used in common communication today. Authors write this way to keep the book from becoming the size of an encyclopedia. However, I did buy all those books and persevered in study because of my great hunger for the deeper things of God. Now you can too because this book conveys these wonderful biblical thoughts and great theologians' writings into plain common language. The Doctrine of Salvation takes deep theological concepts and brings their understanding down to a street level as it were. This book describes on a practical level how these doctrines are to be applied to our lives and how we can relate them to others. I refrain from using thirteen-letter words, but if they are needed, I will use them and then immediately clarify their meaning so the reader will not lose their train of thought. Enjoy reading about the wonders of God again, in greater depth!

It deals with both contrasts and similarities between Mormon and Evangelical beliefs providing a viable basis for communication between those of differing faiths. The author begins with a presentation of the non-biblical teachings of other Christian religions regarding the Trinity, following it with contrasting concepts of God based on the Bible. He explains the oneness of God in terms of separate and distinct beings and describes in detail the divine potential of man. Important biblical teachings dealing with saving grace and good works are thoroughly covered. the author presents the requirements for salvation, pointing out the areas of agreement among all Christians and the core differences in doctrine between LDS teachings and those of other denominations. God's plan for his children is discussed, including where we came from; where we go after death; concepts regarding heaven, hell and the final judgment; and exactly why we are on this earth. the author also discusses the apostasy and the restoration of the gospel as foretold in the Bible. the final chapter presents the importance of revelation through prophets, both in the Bible and other writings. the stature of the Bible relative to other scriptures is discussed, and the author shows that living prophets and ongoing revelation indeed exist.Prepared with careful documentation, this book provides keen doctrinal insights and comparisons which clearly demonstrate the strong scriptural basis of the restored the strong scriptural basis of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: We in the Continuing Church of God believe: -20 Our God is the God of salvation; (Psalm 68:20) -31 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come (Matthew 12:31-32)-5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love ... (1 Timothy 1:5)-9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience (Hebrews 4:9-11, NIV)-7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist (2 John 7).-11 Depart! Depart! Go out from there, Touch no unclean thing; Go out from the midst of her, Be clean, You who bear the vessels of the Lord. (Isaiah 52:11)-36 My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight ... but now My kingdom is not from here. (John 18:36)-1 Let Philadelphia continue (Hebrews 13:1, literal)-14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14) -14 ... I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named ... 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:14,19).But what about Protestants? Do they actually believe all the above? This book explains important differences that you need to understand if you value the God of the Bible.

Book excerpt: "The Oxford Handbook of the Bible in Orthodox Christianity investigates the various ways in which Orthodox Christian, i.e., Eastern and Oriental communities have received, shaped, and interpreted the Christian Bible. The handbook is divided into five parts, including the introduction ("Balancing Tradition with Modernity") that sets the tone and scope of the volume. Part I: Text The Orthodox Church has never codified the Septuagint or any other textual witnesses as its authoritative text. Textual fluidity and pluriformity, a characteristic of Orthodoxy, is demonstrated by the various ancient and modern Bible translations such as, Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopian, Armenian, etc. Part II: Canon Unlike the Protestant and Roman-Catholic situations where the canon of the Bible, specifically the Old Testament canons which are "closed" and limited to 39 and 46 books, respectively, the Orthodox canon is "open-ended" consisting of 39 canonical books and 10 or more (e.g., Ethiopian canon) anaginoskomena "readable" books (Septuagint additions). Part III: Scripture within Tradition Unlike the classical Protestant view of sola scriptura and the Roman Catholic way of placing Scripture and Tradition on par as sources / means of divine revelation, the Orthodox view accords a central role to Scripture within Tradition, with the latter conceived not as a deposit of faith but rather as the Church's life through history. Part IV: Towards an Orthodox Hermeneutics and Part V: Looking to the Future The last two parts survey Orthodox "traditional" hermeneutics consisting mainly of patristic commentaries and liturgical interpretations found in hymnography and iconography, and the ways by which Orthodox biblical scholars balance these traditional hermeneutics with modern historical-critical approaches to the Bible"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the pressing concerns of Americans in the first century of nationhood were day-to-day survival, political harmony, exploration of the continent, foreign policy, and--fixed deeply in the collective consciousness--hell and eternal damnation. The fear of fire and brimstone and the worm that never dies exerted a profound and lasting influence on Americans' ideas about themselves, their neighbors, and the rest of the world. Kathryn Gin Lum poses a number of vital questions: Why did the fear of hell survive Enlightenment critiques in America, after largely subsiding in Europe and elsewhere? What were the consequences for early and antebellum Americans of living with the fear of seeing themselves and many people they knew eternally damned? How did they live under the weighty obligation to save as many souls as possible? What about those who rejected this sense of obligation and fear? Gin Lum shows that beneath early Americans' vaunted millennial optimism lurked a pervasive anxiety: that rather than being favored by God, they and their nation might be the object of divine wrath. As time-honored social hierarchies crumbled before revival fire, economic unease, and political chaos, "saved" and "damned" became as crucial distinctions as race, class, and gender. The threat of damnation became an impetus for or deterrent from all kinds of behaviors, from reading novels to owning slaves. Gin Lum tracks the idea of hell from the Revolution to Reconstruction. She considers the ideas of theological leaders like Jonathan Edwards and Charles Finney, as well as those of ordinary women and men. She discusses the views of Native Americans, Americans of European and African descent, residents of Northern insane asylums and Southern plantations, New England's clergy and missionaries overseas, and even proponents of Swedenborgianism and annihilationism. Damned Nation offers a captivating account of an idea that played a transformative role in America's intellectual and cultural history.
