Book excerpt: Have you ever just wanted to sit down and read something about God or Jesus just to get closer to him to know him more intimately or to expand your understanding of his creation and plan for you? So you find a book that advertises just the subject matter you are interested in, then you open it and begin to read, but before long, you realize you have to run and get the dictionary. Then you may have to purchase a dictionary of theology, then maybe an encyclopedia of Christian apologetics just to understand what you are reading. When this happens, readers often give up on the book and never finish it and may never buy another one. It can get discouraging when confronted with terminology like infralapsarianism, hamartiology, and demythologization, and that doesn't include the hundreds of nontheological words rarely used in common communication today. Authors write this way to keep the book from becoming the size of an encyclopedia. However, I did buy all those books and persevered in study because of my great hunger for the deeper things of God. Now you can too because this book conveys these wonderful biblical thoughts and great theologians' writings into plain common language. The Doctrine of Salvation takes deep theological concepts and brings their understanding down to a street level as it were. This book describes on a practical level how these doctrines are to be applied to our lives and how we can relate them to others. I refrain from using thirteen-letter words, but if they are needed, I will use them and then immediately clarify their meaning so the reader will not lose their train of thought. Enjoy reading about the wonders of God again, in greater depth!

When it comes down to it, all human beings can be divided into two categories: the saved and the unsaved. Every person longs to find the path to eternal life. Many different paths are tried. But what does the Word of God have to say about it? In The Doctrine of Salvation, Charles Horne explains the basics of this important biblical doctrine. Why is there a need for salvation? What is its basis? What are its results? How can you be assured of it? And how does salvation culminate in eternal life? Using clear and precise language, Dr. Horne lays out the biblical evidence. “The doctrine of salvation is central to the message of Scripture,” he writes. “From Genesis 3 to Revelation 22 we witness the unfolding drama of redemption.” May this book open your eyes to the greatest story ever told!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its early beginning’s creation has been plagued by a sickness, the effects of which extend to the uttermost parts of the earth, so that none can escape it. For most, death is considered a normal part of life, something that we all must face. And while it is certainty true that no one can escape or circumvent their physical death, the Scriptures tell us that this life is but a shadow of the one to come, and that the decisions we make now will determine where we go from here: either into eternal life in the presence of the Lord, or into eternal death whereby we are permanently separated from our heavenly creator. This book seeks to address a series of key doctrinal issues with the intention of providing the reader with a consistent understanding of what the Scriptures teach regarding our eternal salvation and the role that we all must play in God’s redemptive plan.

Book excerpt: What is salvation? Why do humans need it? And what is its process? The doctrine of salvation essentially teaches how humans are condemned to an eternal hell by a just and righteous God because of their sins. However, instead of condemning all of humanity without any hope of redemption, God provided a means of salvation, so that the condemned may become righteous and dwell eternally with him in a place of blessing. In this study, we will consider salvation by exploring some of the elements within the order of its process, the gospel message, and theological issues associated with salvation such as, "Why does God elect people to salvation?" "How does a believer become more like Christ?" "Can a believer lose his salvation?" and "How does a person know if he or she is truly saved?" The intent behind studying these is that we'll be able to know the true gospel in contrast with a false gospel, gain wisdom to grow in our sanctification, develop hope in our future glorification, and increase our sense of awe and joy in the great salvation that God planned for us. Let's study it together with the Bible Teacher's Guide."The Bible Teacher's Guide... will help any teacher study and get a better background for his/her Bible lessons. In addition, it will give direction and scope to teaching of the Word of God. Praise God for this contemporary introduction to the Word of God." -Dr. Elmer Towns, Co-founder of Liberty University

Book excerpt: An initial introduction to the study of Christian theology is both exciting and invigorating for students of its discipline. One can become enameled in the classic perspectives of theology without any consideration of a possible alternative. Defining Salvation in the Context of Black Theology is an exit from the classic conviction that trumpets the doctrine of soteriology attributing its substance to the posture of eternity while ignoring the importance of salvation in the existential. Careful not to reject the question of eternal life, but examining the nuances of the term "salvation" empowers this work to present the like manner essential that having salvation is just as much about "now" than it is in the here after.

Book excerpt: Today Gospel has been twisted in a broad field. Faith in Jesus Christ must be built up on the full revelation of God. However, most evangelists do not equip well before ministering. They lack the structure of faith of the Scriptures. The consequence is that both shepherds and sheep are not walking on the way of truth. Actually, they are falling away. Because of lacking of the foundation of faith based on the full words of God, it is not surprised that even popular evangelists deny that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. Let’s tremble before the Word of God and seek Him. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Isaiah 66:5 “Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy and they shall be ashamed.”

Woodrow W. Whidden II addresses common questions and misunderstandings as he explores the Seventh-day Adventist doctrines of grace, law, salvation, judgment, and final events. His findings reveal biblical teachings that will inspire a deep, refreshing sense of the assurance of salvation as he explores such issues as: How can believers know with certainty that they are saved? Does the Bible teach a cosmic, pre-Advent investigative judgment based on works? Who will survive the latter rain, the close of probation, and the time of trouble? What do believers do with failure, backsliding, and the fear of judgment? Are Ellen G. White's writings a help or a stumbling block when understanding salvation? This powerful and comprehensive book will help believers become assured and balanced Christians, able to understand and explain the biblical teachings on judgment and assurance.

What, however, has the evangelical understanding of salvation been? What is it today? What should it be? What Does It Mean to Be Saved? marshals leading evangelical scholars to probe these questions with the goal of encouraging a more holistic understanding of salvation. Each chapter introduces a distinctive point of view on an aspect of redemption. Issues addressed in the volume include individual and corporate salvation, salvation with regard to women, the poor, the oppressed, and the natural world.
