Diese These soll über die Frage, ob Bewegung eine Förderung für die Entwicklung, die Bildung und die Gesundheit darstellt, näher dargelegt werden. Es ist allseits bekannt, dass Bewegung für die körperliche, seelische und soziale Entwicklung von Kindern eine sehr große Rolle spielt. Leider jedoch muss man feststellen, dass immer weniger Kinder Sport treiben und auch im Alltag viel vor dem Fernseher und anderen medialen Gegenständen sitzen. Trotz steigender Anforderungen an die Kinder, wird die Spiel-, Sport- und Bewegungsfreiheit von ihnen eingeschränkt. Durch die zu hohen Anforderungen artet das Ganze im Stress für die Kinder aus, welche durch immer weniger „Austoben“ abgebaut werden können. Ein Teufelskreis. Wie bereits erwähnt beeinflusst die heutige Medienwelt das bewegungsarme Freizeitverhalten und das zunehmende Sitzen unserer heutigen Jugend. Es ist bewiesen, dass Grundschüler 25-30 Stunden die Woche damit verbringen auf der Schulbank zu sitzen. Ca. 30-40 Prozent haben Haltungsschäden und Rückenschmerzen. Die Probleme häufen sich während der Schulzeit. Ärztliche Untersuchungen belegen, dass Bewegungsmangel bei Kindern und Jugendlichen ein wesentlicher Faktor für vielerlei Schäden sind. Besonders auffällig hierbei sind Organleistungs- und Koordinationsschwächen, als auch Übergewicht und Arthrose. Bewegungsmöglichkeiten und Aktivitäten im Sinne von Ausgleichübungen werden umso wichtiger. Hierbei kommt die Bewegte Schule zur Geltung. Es sollen Ermüdungserscheinungen ausgeglichen, dem natürlichen Bewegungsdrang entgegengekommen und die Konzentration der Kinder gefördert werden.

Der erste Teil der Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit theoretischen Grundlagen, die für den weiteren Verlauf relevant sind und auf dem der nachfolgende empirische Teil aufgebaut werden kann. Dabei wird zuerst auf die aktuellen Lebensbedingungen von Kindern und Jugendlichen eingegangen. Weiterhin werden Ursachen und Folgen des Bewegungsmangels analysiert und näher erläutert. Im Anschluss wird die Bedeutung der Bewegung für die Entwicklung von Kindern und Jugendlichen aus psychomotorischer Sicht behandelt. Nachfolgend wird das Sitzen als Aktivität in und außerhalb der Schule untersucht und anhand diverser Richtlinien ein schonendes Sitzverhalten näher beschrieben. Um aus schulischer Sicht den Missständen des Sedentarismus entgegenwirken zu können, wird auf das Konzept der Bewegten Schule, das meist auf spezifische Problemlagen (Sitzen als Belastung, Bewegungsmangel), fachpädagogische Programme (Gesundheitsförderung, Bewegungserziehung) oder schulpädagogische Entwicklungen (Schulprogramm, Schulkultur) zurückzuführen ist, eingegangen. Aus sportpädagogischer Sicht wird abschließend die Frage geklärt, inwieweit eine von Experten oftmals erwünschte tägliche Sportstunde in Schulen umgesetzt werden kann. Der theoretische Teil wird mit einem Zwischenfazit abgerundet. Der zweite empirische Teil verschafft zunächst einen Überblick über den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu Bewegungszeiten von Kindern und Jugendlichen. Im Anschluss wird die qualitative Forschungsmethode näher beschrieben, begründet und von der quantitativen Methode abgegrenzt. Die Darstellung der qualitativen Studie erfolgt in Form von Interviews mit Schülern, die zu ihren körperlichen Aktivitäten in und außerhalb der Schule befragt werden.

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people.
