Reaktionen auf die Entwicklungen verbergen sich hinter den Schlagworten Organizational Commitment, War for Talents, Employer Branding und Personalmarketing. Unternehmen haben den Wert der Mitarbeiter als Schlüsselfaktor für ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit erkannt, sodass sie mittels einer innovativen Unternehmenskultur in Bezug zu aktuellen Trends eine langfristige Mitarbeiterbindung fördern möchten (Hays AG 2016). Etablierte Konzepte werden an die neuen Herausforderungen angepasst und innovative Modelle der Personalentwicklung, Kommunikation und neuartige Führungskonzepte gewinnen an Bedeutung und werden in der Unternehmensstrategie verankert. Der Vergleich des Engagement Index, welcher jährlich von dem Beratungsunternehmen Gallup (2015) veröffentlicht wird zeigt, dass die Anzahl von Mitarbeitern, welche nicht emotional an ihr Unternehmen gebunden sind, tendenziell sinkt. Allerdings haben 15 % der Beschäftigten bereits innerlich gekündigt, während emotional hoch gebundene Mitarbeiter lediglich einen Anteil von ebenfalls 15 % ausmachen. „Die volkswirtschaftlichen Kosten aufgrund von innerer Kündigung belaufen sich auf eine Summe zwischen 73 und 95 Milliarden Euro jährlich.“ (Gallup Deutschland 2015). Studien belegen zudem den positiven Zusammenhang zwischen Mitarbeiterbindung und der Unternehmensperformance (Collins und Smith 2006). Insbesondere bei Top Performern und Mitarbeitern in Schlüsselpositionen lohnt sich der Aufwand eines zielgerichteten Personalmanagements, da diese über spezifisches Wissen hinsichtlich Prozessen und Produkten und hohe Sozial- und Persönlichkeitskompetenzen verfügen (Kwon et al. 2010). Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den theoretischen Ansätzen der Mitarbeiterbindung und der Problemstellung wie sich Mitarbeiter stärker emotional an das Unternehmen binden lassen.
