Book excerpt: Originally published in 1910, this little book by Catherine W. Christie opens the door to the vast body of Theosophical teachings. Acknowledging in her introduction that the book was "imperfect and inadequate, when viewed in the light of the sublime fullness of the Ancient Wisdom," hoped that it "may interest some who would be discouraged at the sight of a fuller or more learned exposition." She continued: "I have endeavored, by the use of simple language and a simple style, so to present these teachings that my readers can use them in their daily life, and thus prove their truth and value to themselves." The book begins with an overview of the Ancient Wisdom. It then covers the topics of brotherhood; reincarnation and karma; alchemy and magic; our mental, astral and physical bodies; the etheric double; the astral and mental planes of nature; the method of returning to earth-life; life in the new bodies; the power of thought and thought-forms; fairies and nature-spirits; action and motive; and the goal of humanity. Marcia Morris, who wrote the Foreword for this new edition, found a copy of Theosophy for Beginners in the late 1960s. It has been her most treasured companion on the Path ever since.

Download or read book Spiritualism, Madame Blavatsky & Theosophy written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2002 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selections from the Works of Rudolf Steiner Without the spiritualist movement and the amazing personality of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, the creator of the Theosophical Society, the spiritual revolution of the twentieth century--the so-called New Age, with all its movers and shakers--would be unimaginable. And the work of Rudolf Steiner, G.I. Gurdjieff, René Guénon, Hazrat Inayat Khan, Sri Aurobindo, R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz, and C.G. Jung could not have become what it was. In this fascinating volume on the Theosophical movement, Rudolf Steiner, one of its primary participants, tells his story in his own words. We are told of the origins of the theosophical movement in spiritualism and somnambulism. We are given Steiner's own version of the relationship between Anthroposophy and Theosophy through his White Lotus Day Lectures, given over several years on the anniversary of Madame Blavatsky's death. Steiner then moves into the realm of occult history, where he relates Theosophy to its historical ground in Western esotericism, especially Rosicrucianism. He reveals events from the seventeenth century that led to the emergence of Freemasonry and other secret societies, as well as the hidden history of the creation of Theosophy in the nineteenth century and the conflicts that still reverberate today between the Anglo-Saxon and Germanic occult streams.
Book Synopsis The Secret Gateway by : Edward Abdill
Download or read book The Secret Gateway written by Edward Abdill and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2012-12-19 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While several books have been written on modern Theosophy — the ancient wisdom tradition that can be found in every great culture from earliest times to the present — none currently exist today in the form of Edward Abdill’s new title. Presenting his own interpretation of the basic Theosophical concepts established in the late nineteenth century by the brilliant mystic, H. P. Blavatsky, Abdill gives us perhaps the first simplified, straightforward written version of the esoteric system that for centuries has often been misunderstood. Through this concise, easy-to-read introduction to Theosophy, people of all faiths and religions can finally start to bridge the gap that is the realm between science and spirituality. This book is the perfect guiding tool for all those on the quest to self-discovery and self-transformation, filling the long-awaited need of insight into the theories and practices that are the backbone of ancient wisdom that most foundational literature on modern Theosophy leaves to be desired.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the occult came to the American West: individualism and magic in the art of California, from Agnes Pelton to Jess "It is in America that the transformation will take place, and has already silently commenced." With these words, written in The Secret Doctrine in 1888, occultist philosopher Helena Blavatsky drew a direct connection between the Theosophical Society and the dynamic energy of 19th-century Americanism. Blavatsky and her successors identified the American West as the perfect site for a rebirth and re-enchantment of humanity, drawing those seeking spiritual fulfilment outside of organized religion to the dramatic landscapes of California, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico--places which have long beckoned searchers of all kinds. The syncretic nature of Theosophy allowed for and even encouraged individualism in belief, making Theosophy a good fit for the notions of freedom and personal agency that characterized the American West in the popular imaginary. Among those drawn to the American West seeking spiritual answers in the early 20th century were artists. In 2014, the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum at Utah State University staged the first exhibition to explore artistic responses to this confluence of enchanted thought and the American West. Building on this precedent, Enchanted Modernities: Theosophy, the Arts and the American West is the first publication devoted to studying these relationships in art and music. Through a series of color plates, contextual essays, interviews and interpretations of individual works by artists such as the Dynaton group (Wolfgang Paalen, Gordon Onslow Ford, Lee Mullican), Oskar Fischinger, Emil Bisttram, Lawren Harris, Raymond Jonson, Agnes Pelton, Wolfgang Paalen, Beatrice Wood, Dane Rudhyar and Jess, Enchanted Modernities explores the role of Theosophical thought in redefining the relationship between enchantment and modernism, and fostering lively cultural networks in a region that that has long captured the world's imagination.
