Book Synopsis Global Atlas on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Control by : Shanthi Mendis
Download or read book Global Atlas on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Control written by Shanthi Mendis and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2011 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As the magnitude of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) continue to accelerate globally, the pressing need for increased awareness and for stronger and more focused international and country responses is increasingly recognized. This atlas on cardiovascular disease prevention and control is part of the response to this need. It documents the magnitude of the problem, using global cardiovascular mortality and morbidity data. It demonstrates the inequities in access to protection, exposure to risk, and access to care as the cause of major inequalities between countries and populations in the occurrence and outcome of CVDs. The report has graphs showing mortality rates of CVDs by age, by country/region, and is divided into three main sections: Section A: Cardiovascular diseases due to atherosclerosis -- Section B: Other cardiovascular diseases -- Section C: Prevention and control of CVDs: Policies, strategies and interventions."--Provided by publisher.

This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Atlas on Prevention and Control of Cardiovascular Diseases is the second atlas on the worldwide epidemic of cardiovascular diseases published by the World Health Organization. Cardiovascular diseases lead the noncommunicable diseases epidemic contributing to nearly one third of global deaths; 17.3 million deaths a year. The 2011 atlas has been compiled mainly using publications and databases produced and maintained by the World Health Organization. The Atlas contains chapters on death and disability, behavioral and metabolic risk factors and determinants, evidence-based interventions for prevention and control, primary health care, inequities, implementation gaps, policies, strategies, Best Buys, health-in-all policies and monitoring in relation to cardiovascular diseases. The striking differences in death, disability and trends in cardiovascular diseases between high income countries and low and middle income countries described in this volume, are largely related to the differences in public policies within as well as outside the health sector, the availability of financial resources for health, prevention and early detection practices, capacity of the health workforce accessibility to diagnosis and treatment and primary care services. The Atlas also provides a baseline for monitoring of trends and for assessing progress made by countries in addressing the cardiovascular epidemic. Book Synopsis Promoting Cardiovascular Health in the Developing World by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Promoting Cardiovascular Health in the Developing World written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-06-29 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), once thought to be confined primarily to industrialized nations, has emerged as a major health threat in developing countries. Cardiovascular disease now accounts for nearly 30 percent of deaths in low and middle income countries each year, and is accompanied by significant economic repercussions. Yet most governments, global health institutions, and development agencies have largely overlooked CVD as they have invested in health in developing countries. Recognizing the gap between the compelling evidence of the global CVD burden and the investment needed to prevent and control CVD, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) turned to the IOM for advice on how to catalyze change. In this report, the IOM recommends that the NHLBI, development agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and governments work toward two essential goals: creating environments that promote heart healthy lifestyle choices and help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and building public health infrastructure and health systems with the capacity to implement programs that will effectively detect and reduce risk and manage CVD. To meet these goals, the IOM recommends several steps, including improving cooperation and collaboration; implementing effective and feasible strategies; and informing efforts through research and health surveillance. Without better efforts to promote cardiovascular health, global health as a whole will be undermined.

Book Synopsis Management of Cardiovascular Disease in Women by : Hanna Z. Mieszczanska
Download or read book Management of Cardiovascular Disease in Women written by Hanna Z. Mieszczanska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women in the US, with more women dying from heart disease than men. Women may have different presentation from men and often need a different approach to diagnosis and treatment. There are also unique topics of management of heart disease in women, including issues during pregnancy, lactation, and menopause. Many different health care providers, as well as cardiologists are involved in treating these patients. A manual reviewing diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease in women would help providers without specific cardiology training to deliver care with greater efficiency. A practical and comprehensive guide geared towards these providers would be a highly practical and valuable resource that would be utilized in everyday practice in offices that include urban clinics, general medicine offices, obstetrics and gynecology offices, as well as in the surgical subspecialties. This book will be a highly practical resource that can be directly applied to the issues that arise in everyday practice. There is no available book on the market that focuses on a broader approach to cardiac disease in women or focuses on non-cardiology providers (and their trainees) who have the need to know more about treatment of cardiovascular disease in women.
