Attractively designed in an easy-to-understand question and answer format, it gives girls the lowdown on how to eat well, choose a workout, and make good choices about their overall health. These are the issues that weigh on CosmoGIRL!s’ minds: What do you do if no diet seems to work? Which form of exercise should you try if you really hate to work out? What should you eat if you can’t stand breakfast? The book also deals with those all-important psychological concerns, including how to cope with the negative thoughts that too many girls face when looking in the mirror. Throughout, there are nutritious recipes and meal ideas, fitness tips from top-level trainers, and practical suggestions for how girls can boost their self- confidence and lead happy, healthy lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are not a failure. And you are not alone. You are being scammed by a system that promises quick fixes that fix nothing and sells you money-sucking programs that do nothing but fuel overeating. At each meal, 93 million overweight American adults and 14 million overweight children and adolescents risk their lives. More than 300,000 die unnecessarily every year from obesity-related diseases. Hazel Dixon-Cooper was a size 22 woman in a size 2 world until she dumped the weight-loss industry, discovered how food companies lie, and learned that doctors rarely know more about nutrition than we do. Confessions of a Fat Cosmo Girl… • Examines the most popular weight-loss programs and reveals the truth about why they fail. • Confronts the medical profession’s solution of slice-and-dice bariatric surgery. • Debunks the deceptive benefits of fad diets and over-the-counter weight-loss products. • Explores sugar addiction and how it contributes to every major life-threatening disease. • Shows you how to clear your life of toxic food, toxic people, and your own toxic beliefs. • Proves the life-saving benefits of moving to a plant-based diet. • Offers a 21-day challenge that will change your life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last twenty years have seen a growth in multi-disciplinary work in the area of sexuality, culture and health. What was once a set of specialist concerns has been steadily mainstreamed. Alongside this, a broader interest has developed in ‘social’ and 'cultural’ factors relating to sexuality and sexual health, from family planning and STI management to gender and intimate partner violence and the technologisation of sex. This book offers a research-based overview of key topics relevant to social and cultural perspectives on sexuality and sexual health. Beginning with an extended introduction and divided into six sections, it looks at culture, sex and gender, sexual diversity, sex work, migration and sexual violence. Each section opens with an editorial discussion which places the theme, and the chapters that follow, in a contemporary context. Six additional substantive chapters can be accessed online at www.routledge.com/cw/aggleton. Including cutting-edge conceptual and empirical material from around the world, this is a key resource for students in, and across, a variety of academic disciplines in the social and health sciences. It is especially suitable for readers from sexuality studies, gender studies, development studies, anthropology and sociology as well as those with public health and social work backgrounds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Service-learning is entering a post-initiatory phase. At tertiary institutions of all types and sizes, service-learning programs are common and service-learning requirements for graduation are growing in popularity. Taken together -- alongside continued faculty interest in effective teaching -- these factors have raised the visibility and popularity of service-learning. Now the greater need in service-learning is not to prove the need for, or efficacy of, service-learning, but to turn the focus squarely back on practice. Following established best practice is not enough; instructors also need to reflect on how this fits within the specific context and application of each unique course and service-learning partnership. While there are many excellent resources that detail best practice and showcase exemplary service-learning courses, faculty reflection and course revision often goes unmentioned. In response to the lack of attention on the role of reflection and course revision, we convened groups of faculty from a variety of disciplines to reflect deeply on their courses, paying specific attention to obstacles and challenges. These conversations were converted to articles for this edited collection, each chapter representing the process of reflection and revision and serving as a guide to develop effective practice in varied curricular contexts. This text contributes to the body of literature on service-learning in a unique and practical manner. Faculty teaching or interested in teaching service-learning classes would benefit from this text as well as university administrators and community service directors involved in service-learning at a programmatic and institutional level. This book should be marketed to faculty teaching disciplinary service-learning classes and service-learning pedagogy classes and administrative offices involved in service-learning. This could be a supplementary text for graduate-level pedagogy courses. Higher education institutional libraries would benefit from this text, as well as the national and state campus compact offices.
