Gill takes readers on an exciting inside tour of the academic, cultural, religious, and political landscape in which he has lived and worked for the past several decades. From Berkeley to Bordeaux, Chicago to Boston . . . from the business trenches and the local church to the seminary and the graduate school of business . . . from marching in the streets to the writer's study . . . from entrepreneurial leadership to institutional challenge . . . Gill never wavered in his mission to promote the ethical insights and values of Jesus and Scripture in the workplace as much as the churchplace. This is a story to inspire a new generation of thoughtful activists.

Book excerpt: Dear Mr. Ty McCall, Single fatherhood must be difficult, but stress no more because I would like to be your daughter's nanny. I am a natural with kids since I have an adorable little girl myself. You say your ranch is in the middle of nowhere and that's perfect for me. I'm a widow, not looking to get married again and don't have a thing for cowboys (at least, I hope I don't!). Shopping malls and coffeehouses hold no interest for me. I like wide-open spaces, wildflowers and the laughter of children. So, you see, I'd be perfect for the job. I promise you won't ever regret hiring me.... Sincerely, Jenny Brewster

She wants to write about the domme and my world. And I'm supposed to teach her, not take her. But her feisty manner begs to be tamed. Her innocence begs to be taken. I know my whip can bring her into submission. Her young body begs for my harsh and experienced touch. Doctor's Demands - A Submissives' Secrets 2 The Doctor's arrived... And his treatment is sizzling! She's a young college student, set on a scrupulous career as a school teacher. I'm a doctor with a checkered past.Binge drinking on weekends, sleeping with women I care nothing for, and seeking summers with women I rent, has been my life. Until I saw her face on the club's website. The Dungeon of Decorum may have found her, but I'd take her as my own. Fighting men who wanted to use her in ways I found distasteful, I finally won her. Savage SEAL's Virgin - A Submissives' Secrets 3 Dangerous missions, death-defying escapes, and mortal combats are child's play compared to taking a virgin ... Dark nights, strange forest creatures, ropes, cuffs, paddles, and a whip should've been more than enough to tame one little virgin. Blyss wasn't your typical virgin! I'd won her in a bidding war. She was pure as the driven snow. Every Dom wanted her. It was me who was supposed to rule her, but she stole my heart before I knew what was happening. Every part of her was virgin territory, yearning to be explored. She was primal, and I took her that way. Filthy Commitments - A Submissives' Secrets 4 It was never supposed to be real. Like they say, never say never... The last thing I wanted was to get serious, hence the need for a sub I could also use as my fake wife. From the moment I laid eyes on her, the attraction was instantaneous. I should've known that could only mean trouble. Her body succumbed to mine so easily. The rapture of taking her to heights she'd never known, exhilarating. Vengeful Seduction - A Submissives' Secrets 5 She stole what was rightfully mine, now I'm going to get it back... Kaye seems innocent, sweet, kind, nurturing. But she has to be hiding a dark side. A side of her that took my grandfather's affection had him leaving her all of his money. That money belongs to me. And only to me. She has no right to it. And I will do what I have to, to get it back. How easy it is for me to seduce her into believing I love her, care for her, want to marry her. For Love & Torture - A Submissives' Secrets 6 Darkness clings to my soul, so why does she allow herself to love me... I'm damaged beyond repair, but still she gives me longing looks and loving words. I've tortured her body and mind, why does she still claim to have love for me? I thought I would be okay without her. I thought I would be able to live my life working right next to the woman and never give in to her love.

Book excerpt: He was not much of a player and not much more of a manager, but by the time Branch Rickey (1881-1965) finished with baseball, he had revolutionized the sport--not just once but three times. In this definitive biography of Rickey--the man sportswriters dubbed "The Brain," "The Mahatma," and, on occasion, "El Cheapo"--Lee Lowenfish tells the full and colorful story of a life that forever changed the face of America's game. As the mastermind behind the Saint Louis Cardinals from 1917 to 1942, Rickey created the farm system, which allowed small-market clubs to compete with the rich and powerful. Under his direction in the 1940s, the Brooklyn Dodgers became truly the first "America's team." By signing Jackie Robinson and other black players, he single-handedly thrust baseball into the forefront of the civil rights movement. Lowenfish evokes the peculiarly American complex of God, family, and baseball that informed Rickey's actions and his accomplishments. His book offers an intriguing, richly detailed portrait of a man whose life is itself a crucial chapter in the history of American business, sport, and society.

She chooses to train for the US Cadet Nurse Corps at the Kahler School of Nursing because Rochester Minnesota is a long way from Dutchville Iowa, and because she has many fond memories of growing up as the daughter of the Rochester State Hospital's Steward. But Rochester doesn't come with such fond memories for Sanna's parents. The day Sanna returned home with joyful news of her acceptance was the day Bram and Brigetta de Boer realized the seeds they thought were still buried in secret from over a quarter of a century earlier had produced a late harvest of truth--truth no one could ignore."--Author's website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not many gay teens experience their journey of self-discovery on a national stage. Then again, not many high school seniors inherit a team in the National Football League. Welcome to the coming of age, coming out, gridiron novel, Ready … Set … Pride! Max Sparks-Picou only thought his last year at Shirley Chisholm High was confusing, with the gorgeous but horribly straight Silas Cannon roaming the halls, and Max still in the closet. At least he had two awesome best friends, a loving family, and time to figure things out quietly – or so he thought. No one foresaw Max thrust into the gladiatorial world of football, a sport he barely followed, and only because his grandpa Gunnar owned the NFL’s newest franchise, the Portland Rogues. No one imagined Gunnar suddenly dying, leaving the team not to its general manager and his only son, Fen, but to … 18-year-old Max! And no one, least of all shy Max, ever dreamed he would be forced to face his own truth, find the love of his life, and run a professional football team, all under the harsh glare of social media, hardcore fans and brutal sports reporters. Meanwhile on the field, Portland has never put together a winning season. They have plenty of talent, and Coach Curcio definitely commands respect. But is it even possible for the Rogues to overcome the war between their suddenly jilted GM and his young, “undeserving” nephew? Can Max survive his peers’ sudden interest, or the judgments of Reddit, Snapchat and Twitter? Will he overcome the scheming Uncle Fen and the skepticism of Rogues players? And what about the other owners – is accepting a teen colleague their biggest challenge, or the waving of a giant Pride flag? Most of all, though, does Max believe enough in himself, whether it’s leading the club, confronting his foes, or accepting the affections of an unexpected beau? Can he win the Super Bowl and the hottest guy in school? Using his experience playing high school football and four years on a major college program’s athletic staff, teaching World Issues to 12th graders, and as a once closeted teen himself, Truscott Jones probes what it means to uncover and accept who you are; to experience the gift of love and the blight of prejudice with equal resolve; and to learn that change is both hard, and inevitable.

Book excerpt: A Father-Daughter Genealogy Team Link Present to Past on Family Trees On a solo ski vacation in Canyon Mines, Colorado, Tucker has a love-hate relationship with his wealth, spending indiscriminately while skiing fearlessly and preparing to conquer the overgrown slope of Hidden Run, a dangerous run not attempted in decades. As genealogist Jillian tries to uncover enough of Tucker’s family tree to understand his charming nature but reckless resolve, Jillian’s equally charming father, Nolan, cajoles Tucker into giving him ski lessons to get him talking about the suspicious circumstances surrounding his grandfather’s life in St. Louis in the 1930s. On the surface, Tucker’s family’s history seems too perfect. The secret may lie in the sealed envelope Tucker carries with him at all times—even on the ski slope. When no one can find Tucker to tell him the fiancée he never mentioned turned up in Canyon Mines, they realize he must be off attempting to ski Hidden Run alone in a snowstorm. And they may be too late. In the Cradle Lies is the second book in the Tree of Life series by Olivia Newport. You’ll want to return to the lovely Colorado mountain town of Canyon Mines again and again to explore and celebrate unforgettable family stories that will inspire you to connect with your own family histories and unique faith journeys.

Book excerpt: Gypsy Rose Lee’s memoir became a New York Times bestseller in 1957, inspiring the 1959 hit musical, two movies, and three revivals. Now a fourth, directed by Arthur Laurents and starring Patti LuPone, is lighting up New York, winning top Broadway theatre awards, including three 2008 Tony Awards, as well as raves from critics and audiences: “No matter how long you live, you’ll never see a more exciting production.” —Terry Teachout, The Wall Street Journal “Watch out, New York! This GYPSY is a wallop-packing show of raw power.” —Ben Brantley, The New York Times “Not your ordinary theater experience. This is the best production of the best damn musical ever.” —Liz Smith, Syndicated Columnist The memoir, which Gypsy began as a series of pieces for The New Yorker, contains photographs and newspaper clippings from her personal scrapbooks and an afterword by her son, Erik Lee Preminger. At turns touching and hilarious, Gypsy describes her childhood trouping across 1920s America through her rise to stardom as The Queen of Burlesque in 1930s New York—where gin came in bathtubs, gangsters were celebrities, and Walter Winchell was king. Gypsy’s story features outrageous characters—among them Broadway’s funny girl, Fanny Brice, who schooled Gypsy in how to be a star; gangster Waxy Gordon, who fixed her teeth; and her indomitable mother, Rose, who lived by her own version of the Golden Rule: “Do unto others … before they do you.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of years ago now as one of my grandsons first birthday approached I thought about what to give a one year old. There are a million things that will be played with for a short while then either broken or ignored. I wanted to give something special, something lasting, something that even when older he might still enjoy. Then it struck me, since he likes the silly little stories I tell him upon his request, that maybe I could write some cute little short stories, with a moral as well, just for him (and any of my other grandchildren as well when shared). Thats all it took to get me started. Since then each year I write a little story that somehow relates to something in his life. When another grandchild came along he also was added to the list of recipients of original stories. When I got to thinking about it I decided there may be other grandparents that would like to spend time with their grandchild reading a little story. Now a few years down the pike and I have enough for a book. And so herein I offer my readers a chance to share the joy of time spent reading to a child. That is why my stories were written in the first place. Children go through phases as with my grandchildren there were the dinosaurs, whales, (especially the blue whale), hedge hogs, puppies and gold fish. Im sure you get my drift. All of these fed my imagination and help to produce stories that have a connection and personal touch for both the child and me. These stories are not written for children to read, but rather for a loving adult to sit down with child on their lap or side by side on a shared sofa and be read to. I recommend using funny voices and lots of emphasis and maybe a tickle or two at just the right moment to add flavor and a garnish to each story. The giggles, like sparklers on the 4th of July, will shower joy in all directions and warm the heart of the one reading the story and those close by. Do not be concerned about the content all the stories contained in this book are rated PG - (to be read by Parent or Grandparent). I hope you will enjoy these short stories even more that I did writing them.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag returns with a thriller that begins with a shocking crime scene you’ll never forget and follows two relentless detectives on a manhunt that ends in a chilling confrontation with the essence of human evil. It was a crime so brutal, it changed the lives of even the most hardened homicide cops. The Haas family murders left a scar on the community nothing can erase, but everyone agrees that convicting the killer, Karl Dahl, is a start. Only Judge Carey Moore seems to be standing in the way. Her ruling that Dahl’s prior criminal record is inadmissible raises a public outcry—and puts the judge in grave danger. When an unknown assailant attacks Judge Moore in a parking garage, two of Minneapolis’ s top cops are called upon to solve the crime and keep the judge from further harm. Detective Sam Kovac is as hard-boiled as they come, and his wisecracking partner, Nikki Liska, isn’t far behind. Neither one wants to be on this case, but when Karl Dahl escapes from custody, everything changes, and a seemingly straightforward case cartwheels out of control. The stakes go even higher when the judge is kidnapped—snatched out of her own bed even as the police sit outside, watching her house. Now Kovac and Liska must navigate through a maze of suspects that includes the stepson of a murder victim, a husband with a secret life, and a rogue cop looking for revenge where the justice system failed. With no time to spare, the detectives are pulled down a strange dark trail of smoke and mirrors, where no one is who they seem and everyone is guilty of Prior Bad Acts.
