Book Synopsis Free Boundary Problems by : Ioannis Athanasopoulos
Download or read book Free Boundary Problems written by Ioannis Athanasopoulos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Free boundary problems arise in an enormous number of situations in nature and technology. They hold a strategic position in pure and applied sciences and thus have been the focus of considerable research over the last three decades. Free Boundary Problems: Theory and Applications presents the work and results of experts at the forefront of current research in mathematics, material sciences, chemical engineering, biology, and physics. It contains the plenary lectures and contributed papers of the 1997 International Interdisciplinary Congress proceedings held in Crete. The main topics addressed include free boundary problems in fluid and solid mechanics, combustion, the theory of filtration, and glaciology. Contributors also discuss material science modeling, recent mathematical developments, and numerical analysis advances within their presentations of more specific topics, such as singularities of interfaces, cusp cavitation and fracture, capillary fluid dynamics of film coating, dynamics of surface growth, phase transition kinetics, and phase field models. With the implications of free boundary problems so far reaching, it becomes important for researchers from all of these fields to stay abreast of new developments. Free Boundary Problems: Theory and Applications provides the opportunity to do just that, presenting recent advances from more than 50 researchers at the frontiers of science, mathematics, and technology.
Book Synopsis Lubrication at the Frontier: The Role of the Interface and Surface Layers in the Thin Film and Boundary Regime by : M. Priest
Download or read book Lubrication at the Frontier: The Role of the Interface and Surface Layers in the Thin Film and Boundary Regime written by M. Priest and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-07-01 with total page 911 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 25th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology was held at the Institut des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon, from 8-11th September, 1998. Its central theme was, "Lubrication at the frontier: the role of the interface and surface layers in the thin film and boundary regime". This topic was chosen because it represents an important evolution of the research field. The Symposium opened with a keynote address entitled "Role of surface-anchored polymer chains in polymer friction" which described the processes taking place at the interface between "solid" and "liquid". The keynote address was followed by two invited lectures. Firstly, "Fuel efficient engine oils, additive interactions, boundary friction and wear" presented the industrial point of view on lubricant formulation and engine testing and its evolution. The second lecture was entitled "For establishment of a new EHL theory" and stressed the need to extend the current EHL theory.Beginning in 1974, The Leeds-Lyon Symposia have now covered a wide range of topics. The essential aim each year is to select a topic of current interest to tribologists and to contribute to further the advance of knowledge in selected fields.

Book Synopsis Liquid Film Coating by : P.M. Schweizer
Download or read book Liquid Film Coating written by P.M. Schweizer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-authored volume provides a comprehensive and in-depth account of the highly interdisciplinary science and technology of liquid film coating. The book covers fundamental principles from a wide range of scientific disciplines, including fluid mechanics aand transport phenomena, capillary hydrodynamics, surface and colloid science. The authors, all acknowledged eperts in their fields, represent a balance between industrial and academic points of view. Throughout the text, many case studies illustrate how scientific principles together with advanced experimental and theoretical methods are applied to develop and optimize manufacturing processes of eve increasing sophiatication and efficiency. In the first part of the book, the authors systematically recount the underlying physical principles and important material properties. The second part of the book gives a comprehensive overview of the most advanced experimental, mathematical and computational methods available today to investigate coating processes. The third part provides an overview and critical literature review for all major classes of liquid film coating processes of industrial importance.

Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
